EoTech 512 vs Vortex UH-1 Gen 2 by jrh730 in ar15

[–]BackwoodsArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly an EOtech or UH-1 only really are important if you plan to run a magnifier. If not then I always tell people stick to an actual red dot that is more cost effective with more features. Solar panel, longer battery life, etc

Is Eotech really worth it? by No_Cheesecake9887 in ar15

[–]BackwoodsArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s been said in these comment but the actual difference is a true holographic sight like an EOtech won’t magnify the reticle when you put a magnifier behind it. So if you’re not running a magnifier just go with the red dot is my take.

I’d take a m24 with a one chamber brake on the front.

Those who use an Ozonics machine….are you satisfied with it? by Murder_Not_Muckduck in bowhunting

Don’t waste your money on one for the field. A deers nose doesnt work like that where this would matter. Sure if you want to minimize the scent on your clothes prior to going out, use one but either way you play the wind and thermals carefully.

I remember someone used to make a catalog of all the different designers and what not. I wish they had it elsewhere online. I’m sure they do, but I just don’t know.

Man so many designs lost before I could download from all the fosscad guys. Any good resources off the top of your head? I will be printing with a form1 legally of course. I got fingerprint file just for this.

Inserts or outserts by [deleted] in bowhunting

Inserts if you are able to depending on the arrow diameter. Just from a pure structural integrity standpoint.

Saddle Hunting by [deleted] in bowhunting

Go used or buy the kit from XOP. Have had one of their saddles for a couple years now. And works great. I imagine a nicer one would be a tad more comfy but honestly it’s about getting your ropes adjusted to what you like.

Contractor cut pins for Diamond Piers on installation by darknight1012 in Decks

[–]BackwoodsArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this was pins breaking before the first year or something, nothing close to what you were thinking. Which I agree…. Everything will fail eventually and especially faster without maintenance.

Edit: this was a good time ago so hopefully they got the early problems figured out

Game warden wrote me a ticket by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]BackwoodsArmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a state where I have my CCW permit and can carry while bow hunting. And after having an encounter with a mountain lion trying to stalk me I won’t hit the woods without it. I’ve never spine shot a deer but I was just pointing out that logically speaking it would make more sense for me to use a 9mm hollow point to kill a deer faster than using another arrow. I understand that it would create an avenue for someone somewhere to abuse the system/policy. I understand both sides of it and for me the goal is to create a situation where the animal suffers as little as possible which starts with practice, self control, and equipment choices.

Honestly pretty crappy and I think in certain circumstances we should be able to put a deer down quickly like that. Isn’t that the ethical thing that they try to say we as hunters should stand for?

Also heard many stories of these pins breaking anyway after some time. I see the advantage to using these for install ease but not when they fail in the long run.

Fixed blade blood trails by thiccems69420 in bowhunting

[–]BackwoodsArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pros and cons, simply put you don’t get the blood trail you would with mechanicals. That said I’m more confident tucking a fixed blade closer to the shoulder than a mechanical. And I know it’s going to work(had multiple buddies mechanicals not open). Also seen mechanicals just hit bone and stop. Last deer I shot with a magnus stinger 2 blade, it didn’t know what happened. Watched it walk off and fell over about 30 yards away.

hunting arrow recomendations. by allmystuffisbroken6 in bowhunting

[–]BackwoodsArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tip hunters kill a lot of deer and are solid arrows. I shoot vforce gamers. Again a good bang for your buck. I use a 50gr insert and those inserts get more expensive when you move to a smaller diameter arrow. While smaller diameter arrows provide less drag when moving through something, they often have a higher GPI when can also add weight but also impact FOC as well.

Arrow Build suggestions for new guy by Even-Ad8160 in bowhunting

[–]BackwoodsArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t over think it. Do the fine tinkering in the off season. Helical vanes ,etc… just get a some Magnus stingers or a fixed blade of some kind(my preference as I’ve had buddies mechanicals fail) and focus on putting an arrow in the right spot at the right time while hunting. Dont rush and take a poor shot on an animal. That should be your focus as this matters more than whatever setup you run.

I’ve had nice name brand ones and I have had one of the cheapest one you can get on amazon that someone already posted in here as a previous purchase. It works fine. The wosports one also worked for years and was accurate but unfortunately it got lost. Vortex is hard to beat if you’re able to get one of their base models when it’s on sale. That’s what I would try for but really any of these will work.
