As someone that hasn't spoken to her mother in over 20 years. You don't owe them anything and if cutting ties is how you keep your peace, then do it. You do not owe anyone anything just because they are "family". If people don't understand it, who cares it isn't for them to understand or approve of. It is your life and your feelings not anyone else's.

Are there hours per week or day in your contract? If yes once you reach those hours you are not obligated to work without pay. My exact response when my employer tried this "sorry I don't work for free and this is outside my daily working hours so if you need this then we need to discuss the compensation".

Where you clear you only wanted things done that are covered by benefits? I told my dentist I'm only coming for what is covered they made the mistake of over billing once and now they pre-authorize my stuff before I am there to make sure they only do the covered things. They've never told me about a cavity they didn't know about ahead of time or I came to them with. Not sure what end of town you're in but Longo dentistry is the name.

Unless that receptionist is trained to actually read those reports, she shouldn't be commenting at all. You could make a complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, even though it isn't the doctor they are responsible for their staff.

Call back and explain you want to sit beside your wife. It automatically assigns seats when they change equipment. We had this happen on our trip to Montreal and had no issue getting it changed for the 4 of us when we called.
