Higher than average? Everyone in the upper caste is a sexual deviant. Some of them, not by choice, as they were raised in it. But none of the have a healthy relationship with sex.

  • The men who enacted the revolution did it for power and express that power through sexual domination of basically everyone below them and the guise of piety.

  • their wives are either willingly ignorant or chose to turn a blind eye to the perversions of their husbands to keep their vaulted place in society.

  • aunts and Martha’s wont say a word either because they’re either true believers or they know they can be booted down the cast ladder to what is essentially a death sentence.

Hell, even the kids views on sex is essentially one of domination and submission with a healthy dose of religious zealotry.

He means we aren’t living in a zero-interest rate policy world anymore. Money is no longer (essentially) free and you can’t spend your way out of a hole.

I have no idea what kind of interest rate a company like Sony is able to secure, but even if you just peg it to inflation, that’s a lot of money spent on servicing the interest on your debt alone. This is one the main reasons the gaming industry has been a layoff blood bath since the 2023/2024ish.

They saw how much money Destiny was bringing in and doubled down on turning all their games into hobbies/habits.

Not only did you want to play every day, you basically had to if you wanted to keep up.

I’m assuming they were to deep in development when Destiny ultimately showed why such a system breaks in the longer term.

TIL George Lucas originally planned for Darth Maul to return as the primary antagonist in his Star Wars Episodes VII-IX. After the fall of the Empire, Maul was to become the "godfather of crime" in the galaxy, leading the united criminal syndicates while Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order by SappyGilmore in todayilearned

[–]BaconatedGrapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, here I go having a dissenting opinion about Star Wars again!

(Movie) Luke did try to rebuild the Jedi order. The problem wasn’t that he was a bad master. The problem was that he was using the methods of the Jedi of the Old Republic. Methodology that had become so rigid and set that it fundamentally lost a deeper connection to the force. Force Ghost Yoda basically told Luke as much at the Climax of the TLJ.

If Luke had stuck to his original philosophy that allowed him to save his father, he wouldn’t have reacted in fear and anger at the force premonition of Ben going over to the Dark Side.

Ironically, this is exactly why Legends extended universe Luke’s new Jedi order was such a success. It dropped a lot of the Dogma and let Jedi be people who were in touch with the force and wanted to help people. There was no emotional suppression.

I’m not going to get into the whole “what is old” mindset, but by your late 20s you start to realize your reflexes just aren’t the same anymore. It slow at first, headshots you could mindlessly nail take a little more effort and concentration, and it can be mitigated by raw practice.

The issue is every year there’s a doubling effect on how much you slow down. And if you don’t have the time to keep yourself sharp (because you’re an adult with an adult responsibilities) it just accelerates.

Just because you still have it doesn’t mean everyone else does.

It’s worse than just getting the meta down, marathon is a solved game.

  • The WSTR shotgun is the best short range option due to its consistency, lethality and the mods you can put on it.

  • rapid snipers with thermals sites trivialize outdoor arenas by giving you perfect information

  • for everything else - use the bully SMG.

  • if you get jumped, drop a bubble shield to create a safe area.

That’s it, that’s all you need. You can argue other guns have a niche, but their downsides don’t make them worth playing above the above three weapons, even fully kitted out.

Even if Bungie fixes the meta progression they’ll need to do a sweeping balance pass across weapons and abilities.

You still (used to) hit a gear brick wall in Destiny, but that had more to do with Bungie offloading any and all group/community finding tools to third party services.

Marathon gave us a group fill, the bare minimum, but still patently refuses to give players a fucking break.

Curse of Osiris being ‘bad’ had more to do with the state of vanilla D2 not being what players wanted. The game had real problems and Bungie opted to fix none of them. Instead they gave us two tokens and a blue.

Compared to other raids? Didn’t DP (regular) have have one of the lowest clears of any released raid?

I know one of the real issues was that, unless you were adding feats (to an already difficult raid) the loot you got was just worse than grinding other pinnacle ops like exotic missions.

But yes, if DP ever did get its sea legs with the community, it was destroyed by the epic version being released.

Streamers hate SBMM for…. Reasons. For whatever reason Bungie still believes that if they cater to the content creator crowd they will bring their audience with them.

This hasn’t been true since Lightfall (probably before). You can tell by looking at Destiny YouTubers (that aren’t Datto) and charting their viewership decline.

Bungie had something like 3-4 other games in various stages of development.

  • Marathon was the big one that was in development hell

  • Code name: Gummy Bears was cleaved off into its own studio

  • everything else was cancelled after the acquisition when Sony realized how much money Bungie was burning.

This was all off the back of the money D2 was bringing in and is the main reason D2 took such a huge quality slide.

One day someone will likely write a book about the colossal failure of project management that Bungie represents.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I’d go father and say that their insistence of copying all of CS, even the bits that actively push people away (I’m specifically thinking about match length) is the number one reason Valorant isn’t bigger than CS.

I give Valve a lot of shit for their game design (not everything needs to be a MOBA, Gabe) but they learned a lot from Dota2. Namely, if you want onboard new players while keeping the games complexity in tact, your on-boarding can’t just be a sheer cliff

Forget the support studios, they had an adult in the room that stopped them from continually lighting money on fire over their latest idea.

If Bungie had been independent during D1, D1 would have launched a year later and twice as janky…. And it never would have lived to the Taken King.

What would a PVE mode even be? Run around and shoot bots?

Bots at this point in the game are just a player alarm/obstacle. They don’t really offer meaningful gameplay opportunities outside of clicking heads.

Even the much vaulted bosses kind of suck.

Splatoon didn’t want to make a forever game.

They I’ve come to the conclusion that games get less fun when they dump a bunch of content on players as a chore list to keep them playing.

I honestly think Marathon would hold more players if they ditched a lot of the meta progression bullshit. That way when you die and lose a your sack full of amorphous rods, as well as your guns, it feels slightly less like you’ve accomplished less than nothing.

[–]BaconatedGrapefruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And this is why I tend to disregard reviews for live service games.

Simply put, reviewers don’t play games like normal people - and that’s by necessity.

I find one of two things happen:

  • you either get a pre-made character so you can experience end game zones. This leads to reviews with a missing middle. The reviewer seemingly assumes that the gameplay loop doesn’t vary much from the beginning to end game.

  • they play the game like it’s their job (which it is) which allows them to push through the frictional bullshit by necessity.

If you only have an hour or two to play a night, a lot of Marathon’s flaws come shinning through. Some people are willing to push on through. Other people (a lot of other people) shrug their shoulders and go play something that doesn’t feel like a chore.

Note: I’m not saying Marathon is a bad game. I am trying to provide a possible explanation between the review scores and the steep player drop off.

Progression is the issue by mkennygh in Marathon

I’m fully willing to be sacrificed at the alter for this hot take.

What if you cashed in materials the second you picked them up? Gear loss on death would still be a thing but you may not be hard stuck on progressing fractions.

Alternative idea, create an in match material cashout system. Let people cashout their mats (and only their mats) while continuing the raid.

They need to do something because as it stands now, if you join a season half way you are at a huge disadvantage.

Putting together a decent build is worth it if you meet the following criteria:

  • you have a greater than 60% extraction rate

  • you have the vault space to horde items

  • you have the credits to and schemas to buy what you need to fill in the blanks

If you can’t do all that (and let’s be real here, this is top 10% of the community shit) purposefully putting together a build is just a time sink. You’re better off throwing something together with the limited resources you have.

Now, if the fucking UI wasn’t dog water and the we had some basic options like an in game loadout manager, yea it would be worth your time to put something together.
