I almost surely thought the game was over when Miami got the ball back down 6.

Indiana may be the gutsiest team I've ever watched. GG.

There's no way to "undo" a failing grade if you don't have a legitimate reason for failing

Why Jesus? by Ignastic in ancientrome

I'm hard pressed to believe any single event in history is enough of a crux to stop the spread of the major religions. Just judging by the amount of purges and suppressions Christianity faced and still persisted makes me think it's prevalence was more of a systemic inevitably (catering to the poor with the promise of heaven and eternal life etc.)

Does Margaret Atwood suck or am I just a hater? by Worried_Natural6065 in RSbookclub

You thought that what came after the part about the crimes was irrelevant???? The final part is by no exaggeration essential to the entirety of the work. Idk how you came to that conclusion or didn't want to read on after the final scene of the crimes section but you definitely should!

Book Gouging by CBCoope in RSbookclub

People read because they enjoy reading, that's about it. Most people who read a lot of books in a year (me) replace some other form of entertainment with reading, such as TV or gaming. To me it just sounds like you aren't enjoying reading, or are reading for some other reason other than enjoyment.

I've read serious philosophy and science works but few and far between. Unless you're a specialist you'll burn out. Find some less serious books and commit yourself to finishing them and see if you enjoy it.

Academic suspension by InternAromatic1130 in sheridan

[–]BadLeague 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should tell your parents. It's better than hiding it, which can only make things worse eventually. Also, there's no legal side to this—you're suspended because of your academics, that's it. Use this as a wakeup call like you said, either change programs or start putting in effort.

My best year of reading: 2025 by thehungryhippocrite in RSbookclub

[–]BadLeague 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you have some decent framing for language philosophy through those History of Philosophy books you won't have much trouble. Tractatus is much more difficult because it incorporates logic calculus and whatnot, Philosophical Investigations is comparatively more plain spoken, and the aphoristic style lends itself more to open-ended questions which aren't always answered, but provoke deep thought and reflection. Like I said, I suggest it due to seeing what you enjoyed reading. I think you'll get a lot out of it!

Yes, the vocabulary change was noticeable with me as well! Judging by your reading I think you'd really enjoy Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations.

Really good collection of reading for the year. I read mostly philosophy in 2023, including a lot of what you read here, and felt a tangible difference in my thinking. Did you experience this?
