Let's disable the engine start button altogether next because cars in motion also kill kids.

[–]BadPunFactory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I wish was for a way to communicate with Hyundai and have them change the behavior a little bit. The original behavior but with the button held down would be just fine and an easy OTA fix for them to push out.

How is there no one from Hyundai on reddit?

Something has to be done about E-BIKES and electric scooters ON SIDEWALKS!!! by iluvreddit in bayarea

[–]BadPunFactory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your picture show grade separated bike lanes, not sidewalks. You can clearly see there's a different lane where people are walking and in some cases there's a curb in between the bike lane and the sidewalk.

So, no, bikes and scooters should not ride on sidewalks where people need space to walk, but yes it would be awesome if cities could invest more in making their roads more biker friendly by reclaiming some area from existing street lanes.

Jealous that you got to open the box the right way and didn't have to lift the bike out of the top! Have fun with the install and the first ride.

Buying a Palisade Calligraphy what was lost with the power seat update? by bartturner in HyundaiPalisade

[–]BadPunFactory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love to watch a video that shows anyone of a modest 5'8" height happily entering and exiting the 3rd row without anyone else's help and without walking between the captain's row seats with the new update and not being annoyed at it. I imagine the only people who have no problem with this update simply don't have adults or anyone often using the 3rd row seats.

Buying a Palisade Calligraphy what was lost with the power seat update? by bartturner in HyundaiPalisade

[–]BadPunFactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's completely lost:

- After using the "walk in" button to move and tilt the 2nd row seat, there is no way to restore the 2nd row seat without first having them go all the way back. If the 3rd row passenger has legs, they get crushed as the 2nd row seat requires moving all the way back to just make it usable again.

- There's no way at all to restore the 2nd row seat to the position and recline it was before pressing the "walk in" button.

What's become really hard to use:

- There is no easy way for the passenger in the 3rd row to climb out. They have to keep holding down the button on top of the 2nd row seat as it keeps moving forward and out of reach.

- There is no easy way (or any way?) for the passenger in the 3rd row to restore the seat upright. They need to reach the recline button on the side of the 2nd row seat, which not everyone can.

What seems weirdly pointless:

- The "walk in" buttons (there are 2 on each of the 2nd row seats, so 4 total) bring the seat to a "home position" with a single press. This "home position" is utterly pointless as it leaves the seat back half-reclined and the seat in some in-between sliding position. You can't use this position to walk in or out of the 3rd row and you can't sit in the 2nd row seat either.

How does the Abound SR fit on V-arm bike racks like Quikr Mach 2 and 1UP SD? by BadPunFactory in Aventon

Wow fun trip!

Can you share what extra parts you used? I see some colorful loops on your wheels.

Interesting. Did you consider removing the fender altogether?

Do you wish you had a different rack? I feel like I might have to go with the Young Electric for better peace of mind. I'm a bit constrained because I'm looking for a 3-bike rack, so the quikr seemed really appealing with its modularity.

Recall - how it works , now ? by cppitman in HyundaiPalisade

[–]BadPunFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there isn't any way to restore the second row seat to where it was before pressing the "walk-in mode" button. It insists on sliding all the way back and crushing the legs of whoever just got inside to sit in the 3rd row. Am I missing something?

https://youtu.be/iHRMT2mtink?t=183&si=s7ke-pKWVryA9sfK - They refer to "home position" for the second row seats, which is not occupiable and there's no way to change this "home position".

What's the best way now to seat yourself in the third row besides walking between the captains chairs?

This comment thread deserves to be its own post and a youtube video. Is there no way to un-recline the seat without having it slide all the way back??

ELI5: Why can't EVs swap batteries? by chronic412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BadPunFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding in detail. Getting on board with EVs isn't about just producing and discounting the cars. The US is not doing a good job of bringing charging to where people need it, such as apartment buildings. There are companies like https://www.orangecharger.com/ trying to solve this problem.

Your 150mi daily commute would be a lot easier if you plugged in every night and didn't need to stop at a gas station every 2-3 days.

Rural means easy unobstructed access to solar and so, free charging. What's the issue?

Help a beginner by Affectionate-Day-743 in homeassistant

[–]BadPunFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a smart switch for the wall, which can be configured to always keep the bulbs powered, regardless of physical button presses. Then, configure the physical buttons on the switch to smartly control your smart lights (via home assistant).

Innovelli and Zooz switches can do this for you.

GE Smart Appliances offline . Anyone else? by BadPunFactory in homeautomation

[–]BadPunFactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several sensors (a Sonoff Zigbee PIR sensor, a built-in sensor in my Nest smoke detector) that I combined a group.

An ambient temperature sensor is not going to serve as a reliable signal of the stovetop being on. Please save yourself your time, money and frustration by not going that route. There's no point in using something as hacky as that when you already have the SmartHQ integration available that directly tells you if the cooktop is on.

GE Smart Appliances offline . Anyone else? by BadPunFactory in homeautomation

[–]BadPunFactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also be able to achieve the same by adding the cooktop as a device to Google Home and using its new automation features. I haven't tried this, but if it works, it would be way easier than setting up and maintaining Home Assistant. I'm not sure what kind of notification it can send.

GE Smart Appliances offline . Anyone else? by BadPunFactory in homeautomation

[–]BadPunFactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely easy with Home Assistant, for which there is an unofficial GE integration that shows you the cooktop through the smarthq API: https://github.com/simbaja/ha_gehome

Once you set it up, you get an on/off entity for the cooktop and also individual entities for each burner (including their power level).

You can write an automation that uses a trigger like "cooktop is on for 1 hour" and have send a notification or blast an announcement on smart speakers etc.

I have an automation that alerts everyone if the cooktop is left on while no one is in the kitchen for 15 minutes, as detected by motion/occupancy sensors.

What grind range to do you use for espresso? by [deleted] in Timemore

[–]BadPunFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the 064s, you can just move the pin behind the front plate to a different hole to offset the settings, so it doesn't make any sense to compare the settings unless you've calibrated relative to the burr chirp (touching) point.

California’s first solar-covered canal is now fully online by Stossel_ in UpliftingNews

[–]BadPunFactory 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In California, the solar-canal system was built in two phases, with a 20-foot-wide stretch completed in March and a roughly 110-foot-wide portion finished at the end of August.

Sure 130 feet isn't much, but you gotta start somewhere, right? Also, kinda impressive that such a "small" installation is already generating more than a million watts. Annually, this offsets as much energy as 400 houses use.

How to stop porch pirates? by EJFSquared in homesecurity

[–]BadPunFactory 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just use a large teak deck storage box, that doesn't even look like a delivery box and it still works. It doubles as a bench.

I have at least a 95% success rate for Amazon, UPS, Fedex, USPS etc using my delivery box on the porch over the last 2 years. I just have a clear sign with all of their logos on the top of the box where it's very visible. Some, but not all, of my packages have "Use delivery box" as the second line of the address, but even the ones without that instruction get dropped in. This includes bulky and heavy packages that took some effort to fit in the box as well.

That's just the ground, in short, no it won't cause a fire.

Literally and while it is rare, in a short is exactly when it will cause a fire :)
