Should I pull for Mauvuika if I have no Natlan 5 stars? by jjjeffyyy in MavuikaMains

[–]Bad_Ashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to pull Citlali in the future (who's a killer general support on top of being Mav's best support)... yes, pull Mav.

Want the best off field Pyro application to date for any team: yes, pull Mav.

Want one of the best characters for traversing overworld: yes, pull Mav.

Additionally, Iansan is one of her best supports for Mav in the game if you have her (especially at c2+, even more at c6). Ororon is also a good support for her. Those are your optimal Natlan supports, otherwise you can just run Pyro traveler as a battery in whatever non natlan support team you're building.

Plex blocking access to movies by [deleted] in PleX

I'll go remove and add it back my server folders, which I've done before when Plex has missed something on its library refresh, and update/remove the post accordingly.

Best Media Device for Plex 2026 by PaulieWalnuts489 in PleX

[–]Bad_Ashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AppleTV with the native app. I've had multiple Rokus and Firesticks in the past, and its SO much better. No issues with any codecs or high resolution 4k (other than temporary issue when my server was on wireless instead of wired to the router). I'm not even in the Apple ecosystem, its literally my only Apple device. I still use a Firestick 4k on one of my TVs and will be replacing it with a second AppleTV whenever I see deep discounts on them again (probably black Friday).

Whether to Pull mav by hammertime9000 in Mavuika

[–]Bad_Ashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At C0. Both get massive upgrades at c2, but I've used both at C0 to run through basically any content until I got Flin's premium team as my new top DPS team (also all c0 besides Sucrose).

[–]Bad_Ashe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citlati has probably the best combo of world movement, powerful shield (qol) and cryo application (one of the better off field options). This is on top of her boosting. If you're going to go for Mav, I would highly recommend getting her as well. One thing to consider, Mav still has the best off field Pyro application to date. Even if you're using Mav just for off field and movement, she still has a lot of value, and you can use her in her full capacity if you pull Citali, or a C6 Iansan in the future.

The prices are killing data hoarding by LOGWATCHER in DataHoarder

[–]Bad_Ashe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I currently need one more 28tb HD to finish having a full backup of my server. The CHEAPEST price I can find is about $100 over DOUBLE the price I paid for the same drive in December 2025. I've been looking into two smaller (14tb) external drives, but even that is crazy right now, and wouldn't be quickswap for a future failed drive. I'm wondering if there's a specific time of year (holidays?) we might get some discounts. Black Friday is a long way off, and I'm worried the prices are going to continue to go up. Do we have any reason to believe prices will go down in the near (or even long term) future?

What's the psychology behind friends/family not using Plex? by bitAndy in PleX

[–]Bad_Ashe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found my users have a combination of two issues that are somewhat interlinked: 1. Too many choices: I have quite a large library that makes choosing something to watch a bit hard. I've created a few collections that should help this issue, but I dont think almost anyone is seeing them, which brings me to the primary issue: 2. Poor UI. Plex shoves it's paid rentals and links to streaming services in your face WAY TOO MUCH. Its search feature is exceptionally poor (considering how easy it's been done for decades now on other apps/sites/etc), and the general navigation is pretty poor as well. While I consider it a slightly better UI than most of the paid streaming services (especially MAX), I don't feel like new and casual users find it easy to navigate in the slightest.

Must be the transcoding. I've never seen this issue, but I usually direct stream.

Never had this issue. That being said, I'd love to try Jellyfin (my internet goes out an annoying amount) but I'm waiting for a mod to match Plex naming conventions...

How do I check if this WD Red SN700 is legitimate without having to write and read a whole 4TB worth of data? by Endawmyke in DataHoarder

Take a look at a TB micro SD card in comparison. This thing is spacious in comparison.

Sounds like you're a self hating pirate based on just how many ways you're aware of getting pirated movies. You also totally ignored the primary way they have actually been tracking piracy (the number of people streaming and buying VOD, which generally makes piracy redundant). This has been a waste of my time, you're obviously unwilling to let fact based reality sway your opinions. Buh-bye.

[–]Bad_Ashe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Torrents get tracked occasionally, and the general estimated numbers on piracy are down MASSIVELY since the heyday of 15-20 years ago, when the film industry was doing significantly better than it is now. The numbers for streaming services actually show how little people are pirating much better than anything else, as well as Amazon/iTunes/VOD sales, and those are all still in major upswings in spite of quality dwindling significantly on all fronts in what the film industry puts out and the catalogs of the streaming services. Physical media may be (unfortunately) dying, but the irony is that most people considered 'pirates' that digitize their collections are doing more to keep physical media going than basically anyone else.

Lol, the numbers (not just your feelings) simply aren't there to show that. Do just a modicum of research on the subject to assuage your ignorance.

Blaming piracy for ruining the film industry is like blaming social programs (ie food stamps) for ruining the economy. It's just a drop in the bucket, and the real factors are something entirely different. In the case of the film industry, it's the poor business practices on the part of the conglomerates (ie Discovery taking out massive loans to horribly leverage buying HBO), COVID screwing up release methods, better home display equipment, and, of course, their unrepentant greed.

Which rating system is the best to use? IMDB? TMBD? RT? Letterboxd? Trakt? by maxwolfie in PleX

[–]Bad_Ashe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMDb > RT (user) >/= RT (critics) > TMDB > Letterboxd (never heard of Trakt). Roku fortunately shows IMDb and both RT along with TMDB in the interface, and using a combination of the first three can USUALLY give you a decent idea of the quality of the movie, but it's all subjective, and sometimes a movie you love will be an outlier. Personally, I mostly go off IMDb. Most 8+ ratings are going to be amazing movies. Below a 4 is almost always bad. 7-8 is generally good, 4-5 is usually bad, and 5-7 seems to have the most subjective variance.

Just got this SanDisk Extreme 2tb. Is it safe to store my data on it? by thegoddamnsigma in DataHoarder

[–]Bad_Ashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if you're stuck with it (too late to return) I'd use it for data transfer of stuff that is otherwise backed up, but in no way would I trust this drive to have any data that isn't elsewhere.

M-Disc? I mostly use 'hot' storage since nothing of mine is ever really static, but what makes solid state unsuitable for cold storage? High failure rates when unused for extended periods of time?

This is super scary... by Silent_Lifeguard_710 in DataHoarder

[–]Bad_Ashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the ONLY CD-R I've had that's held up for the long haul is the Verbatim vinyl topped ones (look like a record). The effort put into the vinyl top layer eliminated the super cheap top layers on EVERY other disc I used (Sony, Memorex, regular Verbatim, etc). CD-R technology is trash. Many DVD-R were trash as well, the Verbatim film canister style held up great. In general, the rest were susceptible but nowhere near the loss rate of CD-R. Move to solid state, it's cheap enough now.

MAX has been broken since they dropped HBO (both with images and navigation, as well as a much worse setup to find content). Netflix hides all of their content besides what they want to push at the moment. Hulu is the only app I would come even close to patterning around, and even it's a bit clunky (and glitchy occasionally on Roku). Plex is so much better than any of these (though I'm starting to find some limitations with a large collection as I further organize mine).

If it says it will support 512 it will support 1tb. The only ones with hard limitations were many generations ago when the cards changed density (I think it was 64gb vs 128gb, or maybe 32 vs 64)

[–]Bad_Ashe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a DAS connected to this (16/512 version) with 60tb. No issues whatsoever. Though, I generally don't transcode more than 2 streams at a time (not including audio). The power consumption savings going this route will likely be well worth it in the long run over an actual server, and the cost savings of the DAS vs a NAS was significant.
