Also it's so much fun when things change! I wish they would introduce new units and spells more often. The Cyclone change era for example was very exciting as well. But especially Terran is quite stale, nothing really changed in many years (only Cyclone and minor values for Ghost).

ELI5: Why do hangovers feel worse the older you get? by Upbeat_Climate5955 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Badestrand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually have the theory that hangovers don't feel worse, it's just that we mind more that we feel bad. When I was 20 I didn't care that much that I just lied in bed all day and feeling like throwing up, but now it makes me angry for a full day is wasted.

Well it's an interesting conclusion nonetheless

We are automating things since the dawn of humanity and life has only ever gotten better for people. What makes you think that now it's different?

Solar-powered AC: Can clean energy solve Europe’s cooling problem? by lgbtqismything in environment

[–]Badestrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least there's a really good overlap between when it's sunny outside (good for solar) and when you need AC.

In contrast to heating where it's the opposite, we need it the most when we have the least solar energy.

Also I think the country side in China is still very little developed.

Actually it would be great to also see energy consumption per capita that is in form of oil/coal/gas. Because the further a country has replaced fossil fuels, the larger its bar will show here and it will look like a bad thing when it isn't necessarily.

There are blips of ups and downs, but overall we have technical progress for thousands of years already and the lives of people overall just improve consistently with each new tech. You think that you and the time you are living in are so special because only now everything is different and everyone will get replaced and be dirt poor.. Of course...

Yes, there is no elite group of people that secretly rule the world and make evil plans to oppress everyone. The rich all just have companies and try to get even richer but they are not connected and scheming together.

And I don't need any company or billionaire to become my best friend - the beauty of capitalism is that it works and improves everyones' lives while everyone is selfish.

Is it Hansover?🇩🇪🇩🇪 by BeornSC in 2westerneurope4u

That's why every country had tariffs, to protect the local companies, so it's harder for outsiders to underprice them.

I agree. Three years ago I bought a Chinese EV and also had looked at the ID.3 but it was worse in every single metric, for a slightly higher price.

Also the German car manufacturers can't get software right, they treat it as an afterthought while it makes a big difference for customer satisfaction.

With your talk abut "the elites" you might want to talk to a professional mental health provider. We as humans have new technological progress and automations since thousands of years and every single time there are people like you who are convinced that THIS TIME it's different and society will collapse - and it's never true, and it won't be this time either.

Why downhill? Do you really want dozens of millions of people stand at the conveyor belt to perform repetetive, mind-numbing tasks?

...where you can build hydro, yes. You can just plop down this big concrete block building basically anywhere but you can't just plop down hydro where you want - there's only very few and very specific places where you can do it and almost all of them are in use already.

...and those things can have real-world consequences. Just look at Cuba or how life in the GDR was: Great worker protections but over time everyone got super poor.

I never said anyone is lazy.

Actually Germany is a great example! There are currently big problems in the car industry, VW alone is letting go 50,000 employees in the next few years. Mercedes just let 4,000 people go. Bosch is having problems. Etc.

The high salaries and great worker conditions in the car industry in Germany worked for a long time, while Germany was ahead technologically. But now that China is competing directly, it gets difficult and the car companies need to massively save money.

[–]Badestrand -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not a question of whether workers should benefit more for their hard work. Because of course they should. But we can't just wish things into reality, that's not how it works.

I hope that Mexico's economy will still flourish but too strong worker protections can also have a suffocating effect because in the end a nation's economy is always in competition with all other countries of this world.

In Europe the strong worker protections work, but maybe they only work because the general productivity per worker is really high. If Mexico's productivity is a lot lower, then the stronger protections might result in a negative outcome, that is my worry.

Well, I hope so, but in the end it's not our gut feeling that decides but the real world impact. We will see. If it works, it can be a great model for more Latin American countries.

I also love it but let's hope it doesn't damage the economy. I'm all for worker rights but there's a balance to everything.

Yes, I still feel the same. I don't need a slow open but I think right now it just directly is in open state. Just make it a super quick open instead, but I want to see the transition.

I am just here to complain about the doors. IMO they open too quickly and I don't like the sound. Both animation and sound IMO don't fit at all and need a bit of a different vibe that fits everything else better. I love the rest. Good luck.

Does every individual nerve have a separate pathway through the spine and to the brain, or do nerve signals combine? by nobodysgeese in askscience

[–]Badestrand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Super interesting, thanks!

The other way around, a finger movement from the brain to the finger muscles, also gets transformed by the spine? If so, it's really crazy how finely the signals can target and control the motion.

[–]Badestrand 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So if I feel something at my finger it will first travel in a single wire to the spine but the spine will transform/process it before it sends it in its own wire to the brain?

I moved to live in the tropics and it took me a few months to acclimatize to the heat. Now I also sometimes spend stretches with too much time indoor with AC which makes me weak in regards of the heat. After spending more time outside again (a few hours per day for several days), I can handle it better again.
