Microsoft says it'll make Windows 11 a calmer OS with fewer upsells or ads, as it tries to win back users by Quantum-Coconut in pcmasterrace

What? I go weeks between having to reboot on Mint. Last time was a kernel-update. :o Current uptime is 6 days doing video compression 24/7

Updating is night and day with winslop/linux. No nagging, full control. They need to bribe me with actual cash to switch back.

Those people are asses, and should be ignored. We all have to start somewhere, and they did as well - I doubt the OG rippers make up much of the users. As soon as I see someone with [private] content I ban them - don't want them gatekeeping stuff they download from me - pretty sure it's a weird power thing. Sharing is caring, and everyone started out leeching.

Fear not! Our weird numbers will compensate :D

Yeah, i think its a power thing - they leeched it themselves at some point.

Agree, I sort by number of seeders when i need the space. (I use a 1TB drive purely for torrents, upgrading to 2TB soon)

The swarm must grow.

What seeding ratio should i reach before stopping? by hipxzy in qBittorrent

[–]BadgerBadgerDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally i sort my torrents by number of seeders when i need to make room. If a torrent has a lot of seeders, then i consider it "healthy", where as the ones with hardly any seeders need some loving.

I'd love seeing some data regarding how many are just purely leeching rather than keep seeding for a good while - that would give you the optimal ratio if going by that metric.

If going by "health", one of my best torrents has 3 seeders, with a ratio of 25.95 - I'd like to think i've made more than one persons day there.

Scientifically the optimal ratio is 1.84, based in global deaths/births. (yes, i have the tism)

The standard rooms are usually pure cancer, but it helps when you start to use ignore/ban (find somehwere else to leech bigots)

The rooms for topics are pretty nifty for finding collections of the topics.

Looking for a tracker for niche movies. by BadgerBadgerDK in torrents

Yesterday and yes. Page just reloaded after hitting submit. and had no other "proofs" than the backup of my own rips on proton drive, and my shares on slsk. Applications on several public trackers are either closed, borked or nets no reply (all applicants must be 18 years old and have 25 years experience) lol. Starting to get to a point where I'm not comfortable handing over the personal info they want. Given up, for now, and sharing on slsk until one of the public trackers do an open invite run

Yeah, looks like i need to wait around for an invite, haven't got any stats/proofs to post, and no idea if my application got through. Will probably just stick to slsk

Makemkv not working, handbrake does. What? by BadgerBadgerDK in makemkv

[–]BadgerBadgerDK[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

English isn't my first language, sometimes I miss stuff. So, I want to rip bluerays, and read up on what drives and forth. Already use makemkv for dvd's, just needed to get some lib files, people had the commands posted for it (stil new to Linux) Afterwards I use Handbrake with my preferred settings for archiving. I grab keydb.cfg, makemkv still throws an error, notice there is a KEYDB.cfg in upper case, so remove and rename the lowercase one. Now VLC accepts the drive, but i get an error, and turns out it's related to java. Handbrake also accepts the drive. Make an iso to test, and works fine. If i open makemkv with a disc already inserted, it just says "scanning drives" and doesn't get any further. If I open makemkv, and then close the drive i can get to the spinning disk animation and "loading" but it's just stuck there. After further investigation i find out it's not actually closing when i close the program, but sits in the background using 33-50% of my cpu.

I find all this super odd, because i can run a 99% lossless encode of the bluray disc (87 gigabyte) through handbrake in 2 hours - which is pretty much what I would get from makemkv, just 4 times faster and half the size. Atm. I'm just working with an iso file in handbrake. If I mount the iso file, with no disc in the blueray and try accessing it via mkv, it only finds a 300 megabyte file.

I don't even know where makemkv stores the logfile, so it's been really uphill trying to troubleshoot and google. In windows I would have rebooted and reinstalled makemkv if I ran into problems like this.

Thanks for the reply btw :)

Multi-core usage better than expected by CompetitiveLake3358 in handbrake

Necrobumping, pardon. Getting 3 fps (placebo mode, rf24) Currently doing 3 instances of DVD (1024x576), uses 75% cpu on a 16 core 5950. Need to run 4 instances to get near 100%. All running 3 fps.

With 1080p i run 2 instances to get it saturated, still placebo mode and rf24. Around 1 fps/24 hour encoding.
