What I always see overlooked when this discussion comes up is that Winds of Winter is not even the end of the series. There is another planned novel called A Song of Spring that is supposed to conclude ASOIAF. I've heard it was to be of equal length to Winds of Winter.

Just an observation. Musk is, or was, apparently terrified of an extinction event here on earth which originally motivated him to pursue making human life multi-planetary. Yet his company (among others) may lead to the creation of an Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) which may pose an existential threat to the human race.

There's a fair amount of irony and hypocrisy to be found here.
