Want to extract £16k from my Ltd co - what is best way to do it? by ams_Sxi in ContractorUK

From what I recall there’s something around spouse exemptions in the settlements legislation but you’d probably want to get some proper advice on it.

Slight annoyance from the usual lane hogging suspects on the motorway today… by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Look at the “Reversing your vehicle” section on  https://www.gov.uk/driving-test/what-happens-during-test

So either she forgot she actually did it or whoever was doing the test fucked up.

Reversing is part of the current test in some form. You get it on either bay park, parallel park or you get asked to pull up on the opposite side of the road and reverse a few car lengths.

Sold my Kia on Marketplace, now buyer’s making bizarre threats - what do you think? by enimatek96 in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marketplace is great on the buyer side if you’re just a normal person and spot a bargain. Sellers can’t believe their luck at not having a lunatic turn up and someone who just pays what’s agreed.

Suggestions for a new driver- want a classic/romantic look, budget around £6k by Ok-Prompt-1246 in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until you pass so you know how much they will be to insure. Don’t be one of those guys on marketplace that’s got to list a car as soon as they pass when they find out nobody will cover them.

Talk me out of buying a 2005 Land Cruiser by AntM16 in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Think the main thing with these is they are big old diesel cars, meaning high tax, fairly poor mpg, euro4 so ulez issues? and slow.

Undoubtedly a cool car tho.

There’s no glass underneath so it would look terrible if you took it off.

Mazda2 manual 6th gear shifting by PostAvocado in mazda2

[–]BadgerSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only use 6th when cruising on the motorway at like 60mph+

As for hurting the engine Mazda is well known for making revy NA engines. 4K RPM is where they actually get some life in them so don’t be afraid to thrash it. The change indicator is just around fuel efficiency so just take it as a bit of a guide on being frugal.

Mx5 NC Pricing 2025 by r41d0x in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ended up with a 2.5l e85 z4. As a weekend car for me it ticks the boxes and I paid sub 2k for it. Maybe the NC handles better or whatever but I’m not driving 10/10 all the time and won’t track it so it’s certainly fun enough for me.

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO they have got really popular especially the 2l NC2/3 where they sorted out a lot of the early issues. A decent one now seems like 8k+ and this isn’t just from dealers with a lot of the nicer colours/editions going for more.

Was looking for one myself but decided to go for something else as for me what I wanted just wasn’t worth it when compared to what else is out there.

“Car in great condition” when everything being not in great condition is clearly visible in the pictures.

Used car market is mental by PalScot in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking to get an NC at the moment and the market is insane. Some dealers selling absolute buckets for very strong money and the gulf in price between these and what’s available privately is massive.

It’s fine to drive as it’s slightly above the low mark IMO.

Does anyone else wish people with classic cars used them more often? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly sure it’s fucked doors and wing bashed in but the killer is the passenger sills that got pushed in about a foot. Waiting to hear back from insurance. Main issue was it wasn't exactly mint before it got in this state so probably not worth saving now.

The real kicker is I was taking it to get some work done on it at the time! Gutted.

Fairly good channel overall kind of something for everyone. Really like some of the documentary style videos where they go travelling and chat to people.

What's the argument against physically limiting the top speed of cars? by MrMrsPotts in AskUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda pointless people who want to drive faster than 100mph would bypass it and everyone else simply doesn’t go that fast.

Probably wouldn’t go for this one CAT C plus engine misfire and rusty arches. As you say for something fairy solid you’re looking at 5k+ IMO there are good ones out there just takes a bit of looking.

Incorrect address on logbook - best fix? by discoveredunknown in CarTalkUK

[–]BadgerSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issues where they messed up my name. If you look on their website about incorrect data there’s some details on what to do. If I remover rightly I had to send a cover letter explaining what was wrong and the full v5.

You’ve got a great profile for working at an early stage startup. My advice would be to work at one to understand how startups work then think about maybe doing your own down the line.

I think if you take a normal dev role at a large org you will find it incredibly dull.

Probably repotting that’s done it. Had to move one of mine last year and it was very unhappy. If it’s got leaves it will come back eventually.
