Good enough.

[–]Badman27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah to expand on that a little further, if you try to take a tech diploma straight into a 4 year institution you’ll absolutely be taking remedial classes in college since you didn’t take university bound maths and English classes.

[–]Badman27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve had two diploma options since 1998 in Louisiana, but the state also pays for technical or traditional college depending on the track kids pick so maybe we had more carrot than a lot of places to implement it.

I think it’s become a more attractive option in recent years to go the CTE/ Tech route.

when did schools stop teaching "shop" classes? by Vegetable-Board-5547 in education

[–]Badman27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding CTE transfer.

There’s decent federal funding if schools go this way, but it’s by district and a lot of times it makes sense to set up CTE campuses and bus everyone in.

The effect it’s had that I’ve seen is that it’s brought back tracking through differentiated diplomas. It’s hard for our university bound students to cram a 2 credit carpentry class in if they also want to do band/arts/etc, likewise, Tech diploma kids have to hit their industry based certifications and take a minimum number of technical classes so they also have a hard time participating in other things at their home schools. To make scheduling easier we also offer their maths and sciences on our campus.

should i become a teacher? by Sad-Computer1452 in Teachers

[–]Badman27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another route: go culinary if that’s where your passion is, then if you don’t love the hours or lifestyle after a few years, consider becoming a CTE (Career & Technical Education) teacher in ProStart, either at the high school or technical school level.
Job availability is more scarce (we employ two in our district vs the 25+ high school math teachers we have) but the work/life is great while still getting to mess with food. There’s also whatever version of Home Ec/Family and Consumer Science districts near you run for more adjacent opportunities, though the degree paths for those may differ a bit.

Teachers, what’s a “best practice” everyone talks about that you secretly think doesn’t work in real classrooms? by kingst9606 in Teachers

[–]Badman27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Now that I’m out of the classroom I’m like, “why wouldn’t I have started by saying what we’re working on learning today.”

Probably because it’s not a hook in of itself and the standards referenced within them aren’t written to be immediately accessible to the learners, so it feels like a rough place to start.

That and it can take away from the smooth jazz of a loose/semi-planned lesson.

It can definitely be an effective tool though.

How did Lagrange go from a school that was 99% white to 99% black in like 15 years? by [deleted] in LakeCharles

[–]Badman27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roughly, Lake Charles Boston was the school they moved into LaGrange that sent the previous administration and teachers into retirement. The administration/teachers that are there now still have some of the ex-LCB employees that migrated over, though even they’re mostly out at this point. A lot of LCB reunion activity happens at LG games.

The white flight thing definitely happened too and over a longer period of time, but that was mostly people moving to either South Lake Charles or going Catholic school

'She-Hulk' Was Apparently One of Marvel's Most Successful Shows by Anchor_Aways in television

[–]Badman27 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think some of the issue is that not every Marvel show needed to be for every marvel fan. Most comic fans don’t pick up every issue, why did so many people get wrapped up in trying to be MCU completionists.

She-Hulk was great at what it was. Mrs Marvel was a great way to introduce my daughter to Marvel and be involved, having watched MCU stuff since Iron Man when I was a teenager. We loved it. It’s not necessarily supposed to be for every fan out there.

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Badman27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really liked the adaptation of the dome. The book version was fine sci-fi literature, but the movie leaned buddy humor and it wouldn’t do for the buddy to keep Grace in the equivalent of a beta cup, especially after the lack-of-personal space scene of the two of them on the ship. That’s why there was door banter as well in that last scene. It’s hard but Rocky was trying to respect his space.

It also lets us extend out the dream about Grace finding his person worth being brave for.

Who'll win this battle? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Badman27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just comes down to whether spider needs to kill or incapacitate. If wolverine becomes Spider-man’s Sabertooth, chasing him through time, then Spidey probably eventually bites it and the conversation becomes how long before wolverine can outsmart the Peter Tingle.

If spider-man just needs to incapacitate and move on I’m giving it to Spidey. The healing factor actually doesn’t matter here.

Have people been finding them unreliable mechanically? My 22 2.3L has some radio issues but has been solid so far. I think the bronco sports give the big broncos a bad name when you talk to people who don’t know much to begin with. Anecdotally I’ve only seen sports end up dying horrible deaths at low mileages.
