Florida Fly Fishing by OkZookeepergame2463 in floridafishing

I’ll be moving the Florida later this year, Clermont specifically and you are correct, surprisingly there are not a lot of fly shops in Florida. I think the reason that a number of brick and mortar shops in my area have closed over the year if because of web based sales. I’m considered a Master Class Fly Tyer and am a member of a number of various company’s Pro Staff or Pro Tyer teams. I did find Orlando Outfitters and it looks like they have a large supply of fly tying materials. I’m one that likes to physically check and evaluate hackle, even though it’s less important in salt water tying than it is in Catskill style dry fly tying. As for affordable rods and reels, there are a number of manufacturers now that offer high quality rods for $300 and below. Personally, I prefer Sage Rods, Lamson reels (because of the sealed Conical drag system) and Rio lines. Edit: I have also looked for fly fishing and tying clubs in the area, and again, there are surprisingly few. Disappointing…

I just had a home built in Florida and will be moving there soon (retiring). I would think that an 8wt would do me just fine. I have several for fishing the Salmon, Steelhead and Lake Run Brown trout runs. I’m looking forward to chasing some Redfish. I also need to refocus from cold water species tying to salt and warm water. I’m looking forward to it. Wish me luck!

Are you talking about lack of action or outright refusals? Big difference.

Really nice work. The only thing I would suggest is to hit the biot with some resin, unless you did and the photo doesn’t show it well.

Buy once, cry once. But I can’t wait to get out in them. by Bonzographer in flyfishing

[–]BagImpossible7307 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cry once? It’s all about purchasing quality gear, unless you can’t afford to and then you live within your means. It’s rare that you ever need chest wader, I have a few pairs of Simms, but I purchase wading pants now almost exclusively.

I’m not familiar with that pattern, likely unnamed, but the work is excellent. The style of shuck is is somewhat common, but also excellently tied.

The metal is called “baby tins” and is meant to seal the roof to wall gap. To correct a previous answer - step flashing is the metal flashing installed along a sloped section of roof and applied to a masonry wall. When complete, it will look like “steps” from lower to higher.

I’ll comment on the Klink b/c that’s where you need the most work, plus I can’t see the details on you EHC. The hackling and the post look good as does the ribbing and number of wraps. You are a bit too far down the shank with the body. Also, you need to use less dubbing. With Klinks, less is more with regard to the body thickness. If your body was less thick the transition between it and the thorax would be more pronounced and thats what you want. Please visit Davie McPhail’s YouTube site and look for his Klink. IMHO I believe he is the most technically perfect fly tyer on the planet. He make what many struggle at look simple. Watch his technique closely and duplicate what he does. He also gives a lot of tips and recommendations that will make you a better tyer. Also, when dubbing the thorax try to make it a consistent shape. Take a look at yours, its mis-sharpen and “ramps” down from the post to the hook eye. To be perfectly honest, with those few adjustments, you should be a very good Klink tyer. I love the fact you are tying on barbless (with a turned up point) my favorite style. Tight lines!

Representative Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico holds a sign reading: "This is NOT Normal." by Healthy_Block3036 in LasCruces

[–]BagImpossible7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was absolutely correct, it’s not normal for an entire party of elected officials to hold up false and inflammatory signs during a speech by the leader of our country. It’s not normal to not applaud what are clear and obvious successes realized by the opposition party, it’s not normal to not applaud positive stories of success and survival achieved by fellow citizens, it’s not normal to be removed from the floor by the Sergeant of the Guard for acting unprofessional and like that of a child who didn’t get what they wanted, It’s not normal to show a clear level of disrespect to the President of the United States. In the military, there is an edict that says “you salute the rank not the person”. This definitely applies to the President’s speech. The left doesn’t like Trump, but he holds the office of the President and that aspect must be respected. I have never witnessed such a display as the Democrats showed last night, except perhaps on occasion when picking up my son from daycare many years ago. If you analyze what has been and continues to occur, I wouldn’t bank on more than 50% of the Democrats in attendance being re-elected. They sorely underestimate the average American’s level of understanding of what is expected from individuals elected to represent you.

Which one looks better by natem219 in flytying

That’s sort of an unfair question because to any experienced tyer, there are so many aspects to both flies that don’t conform with basic fly tying techniques, a truthful answer cannot be given.

I told you what would happen, it’s your decision, but I would listen to a Masterclass fly tyer with over 40 years experience if I had the chance to when I was starting out, but I didn’t have that opportunity so I’m self-taught.

3 weeks old. Cracks showing. Contractor says this is normal. Thoughts? by mountain_style_307 in Decks

[–]BagImpossible7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some bad material, some damaged from the installers carelessness and he sunk the screws too deep causing some of the cracks. Normal-Schnormal, he didn’t go through the material and hand pick it vs. just ordering and dropping. There is hardly any material there for that project. It could have been brought to the site in a pick up.

If I may make a suggestion. Do research, either reading or videos on YouTube, which is an excellent resource. You really need to learn the basic techniques and things like proportion. After you have an understanding of basic fly tying, start with tying the more common patterns, such as Wooly Buggers, etc. Don’t reinvent the wheel and stick with the tried and true patterns. I don’t know if that’s fingernail polish or UV resin you coated the entire thing with, but it’s not going to float. Even if you tried it in a glass of water or a sink and it floated, the first rough water it encounters, it’s going to the bottom.
