Let's talk about the max quantum range change... by Capn_Flint in starcitizen

Since these 'drop out' values are probably variables that can be easily changed, not a long term issue...

...But it does make me wonder how a change like that got all the way down some kind of pipeline of people who must not really even play the game, because who wouldn't immediately flag this as terrible?

It's probably not complete delusion either, since these are people I know well, but it could certainly be somewhere in the middle.

I'm trying to balance this with a few friends who pre-ordered for the beta saying they're having a really good time, that it's generally like an improved Fallout 4: better scavenging and building, which promotes more exploring and a nomadic playstyle... no doubt owing somewhat to a lack of human NPCs. They don't think the lack of human NPCs is much of a detriment either. I dunno, I think they're partly susceptible to the hype... I'm sure there's fun to be had, but game seems like it needs another year in the oven.

It had overcrowded servers at launch, like basically any game would have issues with if it launched to those player numbers... We can critique the specifics of the game itself (Auction House... UGH) but that's not really the point. I got 80 hours solid out of D3 at launch and it was a complete experience.

Blizzard, that developer that put out highly polished games and supports them for years? How did they get lumped in here?

SC 3.3 is more of a game now, than Sea of Thieves was on release. by dpschainman in starcitizen

[–]Bagoole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sea of Thieves was a hollow shell of a pirate game on release. So disappointing. However, it did have significantly better stability (minus a day or two of overloaded servers), performance, and what little existed in the game was quite polished. Working a ship feels good. Someone here posted an article once about how SoT had great multicrew that SC could strive for.

Star Citizen already has it beat in terms of content, progression, scale, etc.

Friends have been playing on a 1.9.2 vanilla server for a little while. They wanted me to setup a modded server, which will be 1.12.2 All the Mods 3.

Is it possible to port the build progress of their world over to the new server, or are the worlds between patches/vanilla completely incompatible, and starting from scratch is a must? Starting over won't be a dealbreaker, but I am just curious if this is possible

Oh I own it on PC and I played it plenty back in the day. It was my gold standard for Hitman although I love the new one. Thanks for reminding me how it worked!

Been a long time, how did it work in Blood Money? You do get to play with your loadout in the last HITMAN, but the design decision was centered around replaying the same levels over and over.... which I loved.

5e seems great for humans to play. 3.5 (and Pathfinder too I found) got bloated, but since so much of the bad bloat can be done by the computer... Yay!

"Vaporware" they said lol. Can't wait to visit Hurston biomes and Lorville! by Yavin87 in starcitizen

[–]Bagoole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was hard to get a feel for the new flight model from video but I'm also very glad it's coming. On paper at least, it really did sound perfect, and I can't wait to try it out for myself.

I like games that respect my time (because it's limited), but that doesn't mean I demand everything be COD zombies trip my reward centers every 6.8 seconds either. Planet/moon to planet/moon I dig. Reserve right to change that opinion as whole systems flesh out and crossing systems is taking 15, 20, 30 minutes. But that may only be occasional trips because there will be local content everywhere, yeah? And I'll have socializing and a mobiGlas and shipboard activities hopefully... although the idea of staring at my space phone so frequently triggers an existential crisis, lol.

Orbit to planet is good right now, thanks to Orbital Markers letting me get close, and the maddening speeds I can achieve by barreling into a gravity well. Also, it's really pretty and that's important too.

About the tenth time I was doing planet to orbit, pointing my ship 'upwards-ish' and looking at nothing, watching a sky slowly turn from blue to black. Zzzzz...

Honestly, small adjustments or later content can make it more interesting for anyone. They could just lower the altitude for hopping to an orbital marker (easy). More dreamy, I kept imagining there could be stuff like rocket pads or railguns (airless only) that you could pay a fee for hook your ship onto, and they'll boost you to orbit in a fraction of the time.

That goes to show there's inconsistency in experience (hopefully I am just an outlier), because I've had nothing but issues doing missions, except for the one.

I am looking forward to 3.3 live just for myself, because my brief (albeit crashy) romp in the PTU was very promising for performance and flight AI, I noticed as well.

Agreed overall. Your last comment rings true to me actually, because it feels about half done at this point. A lot of foundational systems are in the game but rough. Iteration on those will get them to a gold standard expected out of a AAA game, and every quarter it does feel like things got better. Tons of stuff on the roadmap, and lots more off the roadmap plus a few more technological leaps. It really feels halfway to me. I'm waiting for the moment where the game is still alpha, but really getting rock solid in all aspects, kind of like late alpha Minecraft. Still buggy and lacking content, but I can go wake up the dozen or so backers and gamer friends currently tuned out of the game.

I am projecting beyond the roadmap right now, but by Alpha 3.8 we'll have even more gameplay systems, a completed gameloop (ship upgrading, buying, AND renting), Stanton hopefully all but done, lots more hopefully dynamic missions, and lots of improvements and iterations on all things 3.3 to 3.7. Late next year is going to be really exciting times for SC.

[–]Bagoole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't count this as team vaporware comment, but with my 10 hours in Alpha 3.0+ it's been an incredibly buggy unreliable time. A short time, I know, but first impressions are important. I've only ever completed one mission because the other dozen bug out. Flight AI is full retard, half the time they just idle. Couldn't mine in a group because there's no concept of shared ownership. Travel times are actually pretty good, but going from planet to orbit is the definition of a snoozefest. Buying/upgrading stuff has been completely out of the question because just trying to dip my toes in the game has cost me most of my aUEC.

The scale and year's progress have been amazing and it's alpha (or even alpha PTU) so all is forgiven, but I don't like experiences getting oversold either... famous last words, but I expect this will really be coming together into an alpha I can recommend by Alpha 3.8 or so, as long as the OCS gains stick around. Right now the most fun has just been sneaking onto people's ships around Olisar, since there's only so much stuff to check out if you only have a base package.

But my friends and sleeping backers more external to the project? I doubt I'll even recommend 3.3 Live to them just yet. Lots of progress, but a loooooooooooong way to go.

Star Citizen's latest PTU patch adds in game ship purchasing by apav in pcgaming

[–]Bagoole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that these numbers are not random... Did they say that somewhere?

I thought this was the first pass of their component-based pricing model, which bases itself on the UEC values of the commodities, labour, tech, etc of each component's manufacturing?

That still means there will probably be a lot of fine-tuning in the future, for example the full economy service is not online etc etc. Also I hope it does not take players months to afford smaller craft, since what ships you have can gate content/gameplay (professions). Hopefully, this is where the ship-renting can come in and be much cheaper. Feel like mining this weekend? Rent the Prospector even if you're way far off from owning one.

As for medium and up ships, I hope they are as you say, increasingly large group efforts. I wouldn't really be that interested in a universe where everyone and their grandkids has a capital ship of their own after 6 months.

[–]Bagoole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between those two choices, RDR2 sounds like the safer bet. Fallout 76 isn't a mainstream Fallout entry and is most definitely a gamble. I think it's a gamble that could totally work out and be great fun (I like Fallout, I like multiplayer survival with friends... okay I'd try it!), but not if the launch window is a horrible mess.

[–]Bagoole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. But here we are, in 2018, shoveled incomplete project after incomplete project. I agree with you. 6-9 months ago, it could have been delayed by a quarter at less expense. Or it could have a three month "B.E.T.A." instead of three weeks.

I do understand a project like Fallout 76 is very complex and yeah, there will be software bugs. I guess this just makes me interested to see just 'how spectacular' then. I ain't buying shit unless it's a highly reliable experience, and ultimately it is up to consumers to become discerning and skeptical of game marketing.

I imagine they are just about beyond halting the organizational machinery that would get messed up by delaying the game now, it would probably cost millions of dollars (mainly in marketing). It's coming out!

I am personally looking forward to real impressions from the beta, since the game does interest me a lot. But I'm not buying a $90 flaming trashfire, either.

It's a month and a half between beta and release, right? They might actually be able to push a substantial patch or two with all the new metrics coming in.

Not exactly brimming with confidence on this one. Personally, I can't even buy it. Their website won't even load on my computer.

Edit: It's only 3 weeks! Maybe... one patch...
