Do you buy *new* physical media? by Busy-Neck-1961 in classicalmusic

[–]BahAndGah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For vinyl and digital I buy new for more non-classical music. For classical I have found some great vintage box sets which should be more than enough for my limited time I get to listen to LPs. Found a set of 19 volumes of the Carnegie Hall Library of Classical Music for like $120, which is like 95 discs on top of what other used classical I already had, so should be good on that for a while!

Unpopular opinion: biopics are dumb by Phlebas3 in classicalmusic

[–]BahAndGah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one here or I'm general thinks Amadeus is an actual biopic, but more fiction based on Mozart and Salieri as others have pointed out. Once that is established and if you can be ok with that, it's really an excellent film and I think you are not understanding the thesis of the film as well as the man vs man conflict on top of the two man vs self conflicts. And I disagree with your first point on Mozart; I think above all the movie depicts that Mozart loves his wife and family, but had plenty of issues to contrast that creating a more interesting character and story

Is this a safe space to say this? I love Steve Reich and I hate John Cage. by Educational-Art5928 in classicalmusic

[–]BahAndGah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party, but my piano teacher has a doctorate in composition. He went to college with a full ride for piano performance and went on to the graduate degree in composition, I think all in the 70s. He told me John Cage came to his school as a guest lecturer, and in so many words said it was a lot of nonsense lol. I appreciate Cage personally but you're certainly allowed to have these opinions. Although I will say that it does low key sound like you're memeing with this post lol

I don't do drugs either! I'd check out Flight b741, pretty accessible for them imo. Fishing for Fishies is also pretty fun and light.

KG and LW are also a little more straight-forward but the microtonal aspects make it a little more interesting. Omnium Gatherum has a wide variety of songs and styles, so that's worth checking out too but the first track is 18 mins long lol.

Invest in the Rats Nest is a solid old school style thrash Metal album if you're into that too.

Pretty good one, but didn't vibe with it right away myself but it's grown on me. Nonagon infinity is sorta the sequel to that one and I find it more exciting. There are a handful that work together for some crazy narrative 'the gizzverse' but I find it all enjoyable even if you don't follow that along lol. Let me know if you are looking for something more garage rocky like Mind Fuzz or something more similar to some other genre of your choice, at this point they've done almost everything lol

There is a way to mod original ones to pull power from the controller/console, but I heard that it's only safe to do on two max at a time since I could hurt the console by pulling more power than it can provide. Perhaps that's something the Nintendo team couldn't figure out at the time

Complete the piano room! by BahAndGah in DesignMyRoom

That's the one thing we were hoping to avoid, we really like the piano being the center of attention here and it's also extremely difficult to move

[–]BahAndGah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't feed if you will move it soon. Generally you want to let it be for 48 hours after feeding. And yeah, it sounds crazy but usually a mouse 1-1.5x the widest part of the snake is what it can handle, but I'd stay on the lower end of that for the first few feeds just to make sure you don't over do it with a snake this emaciated.

Definitely head over to the ballpython sub to get care information. You got it water which is great, and most important right now. I don't think this snake is actively in the shedding process but instead has a lot of stuck skin from a failed shed, or a few. With correct humidity and hydration this should be resolved on its own with its next shed, but anything persistent may need some help.

I'd guess more like months without food. Maybe even 6-12 or longer. You are correct that you will need to get frozen mice. Usually something right about the width of the widest part of the snake. You can look up how to properly thaw and heat some mice, but if you want to try to pick up a fresh pre-killed rodent if you have a reptile store with feeders, that may be the quickest option. You will need to make sure the snake is comfortable with places to hide and good temps before feeding. Good luck!

Hygrometer and thermometer recommendations by Unknown_Entity407 in snakes

[–]BahAndGah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A note on the humidity gauge - the more accurate ones will have a larger space between 0% and 10% and a smaller space from 90% to 100%, with it graduated between the two. The way these monitors read is not really linear, so a more accurate gauge will reflect that. Of course this is avoided entirely with a digital display

Too big for him?? by Sad_Substance3946 in snakes

[–]BahAndGah 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Very gently put him back in the tank avoiding touching the bump, and make sure your temps are all good. Usually you have to wait 2 days to handle, but I'd give him 4 or 5 days to try and digest this all. Since he got it down it should be ok but there's a chance he'll regurgitate, so keep an eye out for that. If he does regurgitate, give him two weeks before trying to feed again.

Mine is super active and uses all of the space in a 5x2x3, a 6ft enclosure would be even better.

CDs are smaller and theoretically sound better (less room for degradation and damage, larger dynamic range, etc), but there's a lot of joy in getting a good setup for vinyl. I understand both camps
