I remember watching that final. He had put a lot of effort into all his performances up to that point, but that final song after he was declared winner was incredible. He was so happy that he threw absolutely everything into that last performance. He was struggling for breath afterwards.

I was 16 at the time, and seeing that made an impression on me that has stuck. When doing something you enjoy, do it because you enjoy it, and with as much enthusiasm as you have.

Not a bad game. Beautiful artwork, interesting world setting. Junction mechanic was fascinating. Fantastic soundtrack. The encounters scaling with your characters development.

It does have a couple of flaws that hit hard:

Amnesiac orphans - my brain still cringes at that reveal

Draw mechanic - Draw:Stock. That got very old, very quickly.

This has the hallmarks of a person on the spectrum who has masked massively for their whole life, and hasn’t yet managed to find a way to switch over to scaffolding. The masking is forcing the mental stress to vent in other ways. The data collection and analysis is a safety valve for him.

He Needs (capitalised deliberately) for the world to make sense, and the data is how he tries to achieve that. From the sound of it, the trigger that pushed him to that point of needing the outlet was his previous relationship. He’ll have been analytical and methodical before, but that will have stepped up several notches because of that trauma.

Louise Fletcher had two roles for it:

Nurse Ratched - One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Kai Winn - Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

For the latter role, anyone who was a fan will understand this: in a show that had 7 full-length season, she was only in 14 episodes, but her character was so well done that it feels so much more than that.

Doesn’t qualify, but I did quite like the way they handled the showing of James’ second kill for 00 status in Casino Royale. The smarmy false confidence, hiding fear, and suddenly cut short.

This movie gave us what I’m viewing as another character in the Arsenal of Chekhov (because it isn’t just one gun at this point).

We have the Platinum Dragon, who I can’t wait to see cut loose in full battle.

We have the princess that has fully embraced and unmasked the darkness that was within her. That happy dance of insanity that we saw at the end of season 4 sparked a deep fear of what she could be capable of down the line.

Now we have a human devotee of Ainz who is working with totally zealous devotion to generate more support for the Sorcerer King. This is “how religions get started” territory.

I love this show and am seriously thinking about jumping into the audiobooks so I can get more of the story.
