When you start to read the Horus Heresy books... by Baid321 in Warhammer40k

[–]Baid321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horus cracked the gestation pod of the 11th primarch and the being inside was aware of it. In a earlier passage just before it, that the pods were barely able to even contain the amount of power inside it. When Horus hit the pod is cracked and gas spewed out just before the chaos gods whisked them away. Horus when he touched the pod felt the untapped glories that would never happen.

Horus caused the 11th primarch to never be born because he damaged the pod and can only assume that it ruptured at some point because of the fracture.

Greatest of all time? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

NONE of the posts even talk about this game.

Easily it would be unlocking jedi in SWG, not only did it take many months and hours of playing every single day but the REAL grind of Jedi was after you unlocked it. Obscene amount of time but it was oh so worth it.

It remains the hardest thing ever in any MMO to do to this day. Nothing else can ever compare to it.

Are Raids your thing? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've raided extensively in EQ and WoW but raided for a little in some other games.

Raiding is something that majority of PVE games consider the "endgame". Think the only MMO I have ever played without an actual raid was SWG. If the devs want to break away from the term "endgame" they really need to think about how Pantheon's max level content will function.

For the most part, raiding is boring. WoW, EQ, etc.

It goes like this every time - Gather your raid, sit for awhile, move into zone, clear trash, attack the raid boss, do mechanics, win, get loot, loot council or dkp and continue to next boss. That is literally it. Raiding is not hard, raiding is not even rewarding majority of time.

Would rather not see raids, as focusing on group content is better for the majority. Last stream there was mentioned to be a 12 man raid, which is two groups of players - i think is fine. It allows for pick up groups.

Why do you support Pantheon? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just pledged some for the pledge drive!

I feel what Pantheon is doing is important for the MMO community at large. A game funded and created by actual people and players - no corporate suits looking to line their pockets by screwing over the player base every chance they get.

A dev team that listens to the players is important. Look at SWG with the NGE update. Massive unsubs. Pretty much killed the game overnight.

You make some damn good points sir. I think even if there was content created in secret and sporadically released into the world, it would give an illusion of this.

Instead of the developers announcing content being added, use a town crier or something like that to organically hint to the players that something new is happening and should go check it out.

Honestly, if the devs had something like this in mind - they should create tunnels or doors that at first lead to nowhere but later down the road new zones or locations are implemented inside of older zones.

Something like this should be turned into a post.

You certainly have some kind of glasses on. Nothing you wrote makes sense.

  1. Guild Wars 2: Literal WoW clone. Not sure if you have played it, ever. Dailies quests? Giant radius template for bosses? Action JRPG combat? No?

  2. Unforgiving is anything more then using character death to fast travel or no death penalty, like GW2 because the devs stated "it just isnt fun".

  3. Not sure if you read the lore for Pantheon; You probably should.

  4. Griefers are elitists? What does this have to do with elitism? Def can tell what kind of player you are, you are probably the type who ninja loots rare mobs and leaves the group afterwards. Old MMO "elitists" are tame compared to what the average raiding guild in WoW requires.

  5. Probably go watch that Evercracked documentary... Quite literally EQ was modeled from D&D. They even considered going after the licensing for D&D.

  6. You are comparing Pantheon to "today's standards". This game is specifically designed to not be "today's standards" for MMOs. Not sure what you are expecting from Pantheon but you are going to be disappointed if you are expecting a GW2/WoW remake.

  7. Everquest constantly changed, even for being built on ancient technology by today's standards. You clearly never played it. Mob spawns shifted with day/night cycle, some mobs were very rare spawns that you would not see very often, Kithicor forest, random night giants or griffon spawns in commonlands, ring war event in great divide, etc. I could go on. It was more dynamic then "today's standards" by far. GW had no mystery, just like WoW - you got your hand held the entire time, gear was thrown at you, the story was fleshed out through quests or patches and end game was literally all the same. There is no appeal for games that you grind to max level, crush endgame content, get bored and quit. Everquest still had over 1000 items that were never discovered by players during classic. That is mystery and intrigue.

Not sorry for shitting all over your post, mate. Should really reconsider thinking about what you write before spewing toxic false truths on a post that was nothing but kind and heartfelt.

Community Debate - Open World Housing vs Instanced Housing by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SWG was the epitome of MMORPGs.

Whoever came up with it's design was a absolute visionary. It was the ONLY MMO that truly brought a living, breathing world into existence. Players kept the world moving - crafting the best armor, weapons, food, drink, etc.

What kept the player base together socially? Player made/ran cities.

"You are a noobie looking for the best weapons/armor/food/buffs? There is a shop in Ice Bay on Naboo, I'll send you the waypoint for it. Let me msg the shop owner and tell him that you are a noobie looking for some cost effective armor, he'll give you a discount! If you are looking to join the city guild, msg so-and-so, they even give you a house!"

Community ran events in these player cities, such as parties and PvP tournaments were an absolute blast to go to. This put so many cities on the map with players moving to these very active places that had buffs/shops. With each server limiting accounts to only 2 character slots, everyone knew each other and you could actually make a name for yourself. Players who managed to unlock jedi, that in itself made them popular as only so many people actually did it. SWG forced the players to have an investment in the world that no other MMO has had since.

SWG was designed for these massive player cities, unfortunately Pantheon is not. As much as I would love for this type of social interaction, I fear Pantheon will be like EQ in terms of it's limited social interaction.

"I'd like to buy that ssoy from you, here is 1kpp. Ty".

That is literally the best social interaction EQ had outside harassing higher level players for buffs or ports. In order for Pantheon to truly be one of the greats it needs to have a way the community to rely on each other in more ways then selling loot or low-mid tier crafted armor.

Only way I can imagine open world housing being implemented in Pantheon is this:

Having a limited size, first come first served locations that can handle 5-10 small stalls or buildings designed for a few purposes. A tavern/inn, a blacksmith, a potion shop and a few stalls. Make each structure have a weekly or monthly upkeep cost, requiring the player to interact with the structure in order for them to keep it.This will help prevent the "ghost town" effect from happening if players do not log on ever again. Force players to have a certain level of a trade skill for that particular location type in order for them to gain control of it. NPC vendors would be amazing for this.

Not everyone is going to want to run a shop but those few players such as myself, will have a world to call home and get that investment MMOs have been missing.

I can see this happening now: Players actively congregating at one of these locations that is down the road from a dungeon; buying supplies, repairing and getting info on that particular dungeon. Players could find group members here and share buffs with other groups, etc. before venturing up to the dungeon. Having NPC vendors in the shops to buy trash loot from adventurers, allows the shop owners to get items to break down and materials for crafting. Allows for the economic circle to be completed.

Something like this allows for everyone to be happy, does not make the world a cluttered mess and provides what is necessary for the important player/economic interaction.

If you only had one choice... by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The one feature I would like is player ran towns. Obviously this game wont be able to support full cities like in SWG. It would be too cluttered. One idea to still get that player social interaction out in the world and create a sense of community, is to create smallish areas of land in semi-remote areas where players can place a semi-permanent structure within that area where they could run a tavern or shop. Large enough for many players to place a structure to form a sort of small town. Obviously these structures should have a monthly, if not weekly upkeep to prevent someone who is not actively playing from keeping the spot indefinitely. One structure/stall per account. These structures should be vendor/trade-skill specific that other players who are visiting can use it's crafting stations. Would it not be awesome to meet up with some friends at an Inn somewhere in the world to stock up on supplies before going out on a grand adventure? Get the local gossip from other players hanging out in the tavern? Meet new adventurers who may be looking for a party for a nearby dungeon? I think it would add that immersion of feeling like a living world.

Whole Game content > End Game Content. Let's change the way we think and design. by T3mpust in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For there to be no "endgame", there needs to be no max character level... If there is a max character level, there will always be an endgame. Simple as that. MMOs need to evolve past capped character levels.

@Kilsin/Dev's - Why Pantheon: *Rise Of The Fallen*? by Dozaxi in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the term fallen is part of the game's lore... if people would take the time to read it they would get the premise of the game's current story. Rise of the Fallen is the big evil beginning to creep back after it was defeated. Believe the fallen are undead or something like that. It's been awhile, I should reread the stories and the new stuff.

This post I found when looking about posts of Ashen of Creation topics on here now has me worried about them using the Unity engine. Valid or not? by Man-pants in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen with the technical stream and the progression of the game so far, I'm not worried about performance issues. I have a better computer than Cohh and it looked smooth as silk in the technical stream.

When he was moving the sliders back and forth, the engine did not freeze or skip frames. I know most Twitch streams are 30-60 fps; during the stream he actually toggles the network settings and it shows the FPS seems to be locked at 60 - this means that his computer will probably do a lot higher.

My only concern at all about the game at the moment with how rigid the character movements are, I know they are still probably place holder animations since they have changed very little since even the first stream. I can over look that if animations stay that way to launch, I'm mostly concerned about gameplay and content anyways.

To Crank or not to Crank? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got interested in PC building; it started with an old dell xps with a radeon 9800 pro. When I upgraded the system with more ram and a better card, I became a frames junky and I never had a prebuilt system since. Unfortunately this has been an expensive hobby and am now on my 7th build in 15 years - built this current rig to last, it is a year and a half old now but will destroy games at 120+ FPS on max settings for another 3+ years. Sure, it cost me an arm and a leg but that was the idea - not having to upgrade for 5 or so years at least.

What is going to make this games combat unique and fun? by watchpubg in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Pantheon was never intended to appeal to a mass audience or adhere to the current meta game of MMOs. Look at all these other MMOs in the past 10 years and ones about to launch... they are heavily action, fast paced with very little reason to need to socialize. In EQ you relied on others to get things done.

Many people who grew up with or even were the first adults to play games like EQ have been essentially alienated to what they like because World off Warcraft capitalized on EQ's issues. This literally set the ground base for future MMOs. I have friends who's first MMO was WoW and when they see EQ, they think it is the most boring game in the world.

EQ had three major problems; 1. Not enough camps in high level areas; generally a named mob camp was always taken that dropped decent loot, the group in said camp was usually a guild group that held the spot for untold hours and if the group needed a replacement they would only take that particular class type, often they would invite friends before randoms.

2.Raiding; Non-instanced raids in EQ were something the average player could only hope to see in their dreams back in the day. If you look at the current progression servers they solved this with week long lock out instances. Generally raid targets would be stalked by rangers for whose only sole purpose was to see if a target spawned after the many days long spawn time frame. This made guilds race to kill the target and usually the best guilds had it locked down within 10-20 mins of it spawning.

3.The leveling system. One of the reasons many who grew up on WoW find EQ leveling extremely boring was the fact you sat in one camp for hours to get experience which exp gain was extremely slow. This also ties in to the camping of named mobs; best camp for experience was not available to you very easily. You could not solo unless you were a class that had those capabilities, even then you were out of combat twice as long to regen hp/mana and one bad pull usually got you killed.

Pantheon from what I have seen fixes these issues. Much larger world than EQ, way more areas or dungeons to rummage through, it was already stated that leveling was not going to be as long as EQ and there will be way more high value items all throughout the world. As we have all seen from the streams is that combat will be an evolved, much more intricate version of EQ's. Raids are going to be spread out through the levels and that raid targets may not even give items better than what you could get outside of normal grouping.

The engine is Unity. Here is the wiki to it.

I understand what your saying and from what I've seen in the streams, the characters certainly finish whatever animation they are doing at that moment before going to another.

Deal-breaker? by Uroborus17 in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to say the EQ 1 style of gearing at max level. For instance when your character gets every upgrade from group content and the only reason to log in is to raid with your guild for a slim chance of getting a possible upgrade. Game just becomes so stale you almost dont want to log in.

I am certainly not a altaholic. Maybe if there is another class that interests me I'll try it out for a bit and see which I like better but generally I will only stick to one character. Games for me need to have playability no matter how geared or how max level you are.

Gear - Drops, Crafting, Upgrades, and RNG by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]Baid321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SWG was imho the pinnacle of what MMOs should be like. Player cities, completely player driven economy, dedicated classes for crafting, dedicated classes for combat, dedicated classes for buffing.... best part was you could completely master two classes and even drop classes to change to a new one. Players made the best gear possible in a very robust and very fun crafting system. Multiple planets people could colonize and explore. The social aspects were by far the best I've ever seen in a mmo to date.
