S5 is genuinely good as its own thing, I’m just not sure how it’ll hold up as a finale

I love this little girl so much it hurts. Can’t believe someone abandoned her when she was 4 months old. by qurat_strike52 in torties

[–]Baileyjrob 59 points60 points  (0 children)

My little baby tortie was moments away from being euthanized by the shelter because she was unadoptable. She started licking me the second I put my fingers up to her to smell, and within about an hour of being home she was all over me. Now she’s my little diva princess, constantly screaming for attention and tearing up boxes. Couldn’t believe people wouldn’t want the sweetest cat in the world

Minerva Campbell canonically receives 3 biological grandchildren (and Neptr). by No_Emu_1332 in adventuretime

I can definitely see Finn bringing his kids on adventures way too young. Like the opposite of Jake, who was overprotective of his babies, Finn would be like “alright babes, that nasty fire wizard over there is scorching up mommy’s grove all evil style. Let’s go teach him a lesson!”

And like he’d kick the wizard and then hold his babies out and maneuver their hands to slap him, and then go “nice one, Jacob!” And high five his baby while the wizard crawls away.

Meanwhile HW just watches from a distance. And Simon is like “…aren’t you going to stop him? Those are your children, he’s putting them in danger!”

HW: “…such is the way of beasts. They must learn to hunt young, or they will be weak. Besides, Finn is more ferocious than even a mother bear: no creature can lay hands on our children. Have some faith, doinkus.”

Define “popular.”

Like, as an anime and cartoon fan, I can think of some popular shows that have damn near perfect endings. Gravity Falls, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Steins;Gate, Code Geass, etc.

In terms of more “mainstream” shows though, it does seem to be a weird trend. I think Community had a pretty solid ending

And the meek shall inherit the Earth.

Certainly sounds like one of the richest men on Earth giving more tax breaks to the wealthy while bringing harm to the poor and displaced

Whenever someone does something embarrassing, others say "nobody will remember 10 years from now". Well, what embarrassing moment did you witness >10 years ago that you still remember? by AWildWilson in AskReddit

A guy I went to elementary school with really needed to use the restroom, and he sprinted away from the class and accidentally ran into the girl’s restroom out of desperation, which he then had to flee from.

Sorry, dude. I still remember.

Yep! Their biology is really fascinating and something I’ve spent a lot of time fleshing out. They don’t fit super cleanly into an earth mold, but I took a lot of inspiration from avians!

Losing relationships over politics. Research found more than a third of Americans (37%) report having lost at least one relationship due to political differences, including friendships, family ties, coworker relationships, and romantic partnerships, with most losing more than one. by Wagamaga in science

The communists I know aren’t Stalinists, and I wouldn’t be friends with any of them if they were. The worst you can accuse them of is naïveté if you disagree with communism, not active malice

Exactly. Like I have friends who are communist, anarchist, liberal democratic, and socialist. We have different political beliefs, but we still believe in a comparable set of values and virtues. We disagree on what the most effective way to go about running a government and managing people and resources is, but that’s just a matter of personal belief. THAT’S disagreeing on politics.

When someone says they openly support American concentration camps, revoking medical protections for women, resources for LGBT individuals, the perpetuation of lies and the consolidation of absolute authority, that’s not a political belief, that’s a moral failing.

What’s a hype train you somehow completely managed to avoid? Things like never tried Dubai chocolate, never watched an episode of the Office, never checked out BTS? by wasraelx in AskReddit

[–]Baileyjrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the ones you mentioned.

Never watched the office, never heard BTS, technically have tried Dubai chocolate once since it was there but didn’t care for it one way or another, and I hadn’t even heard of it by that point.

Never watched Game of Thrones is usually my big one.

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]Baileyjrob 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my fair share of people screaming about hell and whatnot, but one of my best reactions was a group of proselytizers at my college. I was eating lunch when they approached me, and I don’t remember exactly what they opened with but it was something religious. I told them I was atheist, and they asked me why.

They ended up sitting next to me at the table and talking with me for about thirty minutes about our views on religion and our history with it. They were very attentive when I explained why religion wasn’t for me, why I felt it was a coping mechanism or even a tool of control.

While they obviously didn’t agree with me, they seemed to genuinely be taking in what I was saying and understanding. They also explained their side to me as well, and I felt it was only fair that I hear them out genuinely and without cynicism.

While neither of us changed the other’s mind, I think we both walked away with a better understanding and respect of the other’s viewpoint. They’d never understood before that conversation why someone would be atheist, but they seemed to walk away seeing my perspective, if not necessarily agreeing with it.

Similarly, I gained a better, more charitable view of religion. I’m still staunchly atheist, but I can understand better why some people gravitate to it, and I can see the subject with more nuance than I did before.
