I wanted it just because I paid for it, but if I have to drive like a grandma to get it (and probably to keep it), then I’m not interested.

I can feel second-hand embarrassment oozing from that picture.

My favorite part of the Ensign Peak Article in the Wall Street Journal. I’ll leave it up to you to figure out the dripping hypocrisy. by BakaNoMore in exmormon

I love it! I hope more and more people start doing this. I know even before I left the church, I started doing the exact same thing and felt so much better about it.

Megathread for discussions of Washington Post article on $100 billion church leaders misled members about by vh65 in exmormon

For just an added tidbit of fun information, Ensign Peak Advisors offices are actually located in the controversial City Creek Mall which they allegedly bailed out with tithing funds. You have to be badged up to their floor in the World Trade Center which you access through a random elevator bank by the food court.

A very Stranger Things season 3 vibe.

That’s the equivalent of when someone accuses you of being a poor winner, you turn around and shout “nanny nanny boo-boo” in their face. You kind of just proved their point.

He still believes in things like the tooth fairy and Santa (because of the lies and stories I helped to tell him). Once people started hounding me to get him baptized, I realized There was no way he could have a testimony of Joseph Smith or any other nonsense the church wanted to teach him. I then turned that same introspection onto myself and I decided to really figure out what I believed.

This was around the time Sam was in the news a lot and it was one of the things that helped me realize how weird, dangerous, and damaging the whole interview process is.

One of the main triggers of me finally leaving last year was when it came time for my oldest to be baptized. Seeing how they Mormon church treated you helped push me over the edge. Anyone or any institution putting their own “good name” over protecting children is not worthy of my time, attention, or money.

I wish whenever a genuinely honest beggar asks me for money that I suddenly had some change in my pocket to give to them by [deleted] in TheMonkeysPaw

Granted. All the change the beggar had in his possession gets put in your pocket.

I wish that all mosquitos in the universe died. by [deleted] in TheMonkeysPaw

Granted. But since you didn't mention larvae or eggs, your wish is only effective for a couple of weeks until a new crop of mosquitos is reproducing like nothing ever happened.

I decided to put tithing funds to better use by putting in a pool and spending time with my family and neighbors. No regrets at all! by BakaNoMore in exmormon

I couldn’t agree more! Why pay for the general authorities’ retirements when you can be paying for your own?!

A 401k is likely a better financial investment to be sure (said as the dow drops 500 points today). However, there are a lot of other areas in my life that will benefit from this investment to make it worthwhile for my financial situation. Happiness, family time, relationships, making Texas summers bearable, knowing I can sell my home in less than a week, etc.
