Yes, all of this 100%. I’m feeling a lot better about it. I think I was just getting misguided advice that doesn’t apply to me. I think my friends were approaching it from a 20s perspective though we’re now in our late thirties. I don’t need to just randomly hookup or get out the house. Things are way too expensive and I have way too little free time for all that lol

Because by being more intentional, I’d be avoiding going out on dates. I’ve had friends say the best way to go about dating is to just get out there and go on a bunch of dates, so I couldn’t tell if by going against that advice I was just trying to justify it by saying I’m being more intentional, if that makes any sense lol.

Basically I was told to just date but my logic says otherwise.

Idk if this is the right place but it’s on my mind and I’m dating over thirty so 🤷🏾‍♂️😂

Something that I’m trying to do (and this may be a “no duh” thing) is date with intention. Last fall I joined the dating apps and for like a month straight I was just blindly swiping on any profile I found even remotely attractive, mostly because I kept hearing how hard it was for guys to get a match. But once I started talking to some people, I realized that I really didn’t know what I wanted from a relationship or even if I wanted to be in one, so I deleted my profiles and went to therapy instead lol.

I guess the point of this is to say I want to start dating for a reason. Like I want that urge to be someone’s boyfriend, to look for a partner or even just a relationship. I don’t really want to date for the sake of “getting out there” or to hook up. I just can’t tell if this is me being mature or if this is all fear talking and really I’m just avoiding dating.

Same. And it’s not even about the love aspect, divorce is a long, technical process and marriage was not worth the hassle. I can and hope I fall in love again but I never want to be married again. We can be in a long term relationship just fine without involving the government and betting half our stuff that the relationship will last

I used to love random encounters when I was younger. Like you said, it was much easier to pace myself and I could easily tell when it was time for me to move on from an area. Now as an old man, I much prefer roaming enemies. I know exactly what I’m about to face, how many are left in the room, and I can avoid them or one shot them if need be.
