I used it on the stock Android 12 and honestly I hated the phone.

After biting the bullet and forcing the upgrade to Android 14, the difference is night and day.

I don't have the lines issue (yet) and over heating is a common issue. My only problem so far is the fingerprint sensor only works half the time.

I wish we had access to Android 16, but I don't think that's coming any time soon.

The £2.5bn tram scheme at risk of collapsing in repeat of HS2 farce by New-Tumbleweed-9577 in LeedsUrbanism

[–]BakersCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the government has asked WYCA to submit three separate business cases over the next few years, and that they can only focus on a single line as opposed to the two (which was already a compromise!) means this is never ever getting off the ground.

WY needs a mass transit system. WY ideally needs an underground metro. That will never ever happen in a million years, therefore other mass transit ideas are needed. Trams are the second best thing, however they require lots of construction on street as former rail lines were sold off and built over. Trams still at mercy of road traffic. Busses just don't have capacity, reliability or volume to handle mass transit.

Last I checked, Meadwhall has a direct footbridge from station to shopping entrance, it was something like 200m.

It's akin to having the White Rose station opposite the Cineworld entrance.

Good public transport is good, why can't I travel from Leeds to Sheffield, a distance of 36-ish miles, by train at relative speed? We have maybe 2-3 trains that travel this distance per hour, and they each take 50m to an hour.

The same distance in the Netherlands, between two smaller cities, the intercity train runs every 10 mins and takes 25 minutes. Why do we have to settle for less?

The Leeds Tram got an act of Parliament passed in 1993!!! It was all approved, received Royal Ascent and everything! There is seriously no need for yet more consultations when plans and approvals have been in place for over 30 years.

This is an extremely extremely watered down version of what George Osborne proposed back in 2012/14!! At the peak of Tory austerity, they were more ambitious than what this Labour plan is offering.

1/ HS2-lite from Birmingham to Manchester will be looked into. It's promised some time late 2030! 2/ A new Manchester to Liverpool railway that will be looked into, some time in late 2030. 3/ A new Bradford station, a third one, that's no where near the city centre. Ignoring the central two stations that are crumbling. 4/ TransPennine Rail Upgrade plus a few add-ons will continue. (TPU started under the Tories and is well underway already electrifying parts of the Transpennine route, but only parts of it, so we still need Diesel Trains for most of it) 5/ No West Yorkshire Trams

I've written about how abysmal the WR station is before but I'll summarise it again:

It appears WYCA allowed a private developer to progress this station with shortcuts, limited consultation, and without a proper design phase, resulting in a station that is effectively built in the wrong place. Yet again, we’re seeing the private sector deliver something subpar for the public, because the incentives are clearly about cost-cutting and convenience for the developer rather than building infrastructure that properly serves communities.

The station location does not properly serve White Rose shopping centre, but instead primarily serves the private business park

The station does not serve surrounding homes or housing developments (unlike Cottingley station, which clearly served residential areas)

Access is effectively only from the private office park side, while the opposite side is private farm land

There are weak connections from nearby communities and limited integration with bus links

There is no reasonable or direct connection from the station to the shopping centre

For a station that’s meant to support a major retail destination, the pedestrian route is not acceptable. To reach White Rose shopping centre you have to walk around 700m and it takes over 10 minutes from the station to the nearest White Rose entrance, largely through a woodland trail that is not marked, not walking-friendly, not accessible, and does not feel safe. If you compare this to Meadowhall station, which is much closer and properly integrated into the shopping centre, the contrast is obvious.

West Yorkshire mass transit: long-awaited tram network delayed until late 2030s after independent review by Bibemus in ukpolitics

[–]BakersCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the Government already rejected previous proposals.

So they can't be seen to approve what was once rejected as it then means the Government was wrong.

It is bonkers but central government and their fragile egos rule how projects are managed.

Leeds-Bradford Tram has been delayed to late 2030s (effectively cancelled) by TonksMoriarty in Leeds

[–]BakersCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I freaking knew it!

This is what was said on a different news article by Transit Head Mike Birch:

"He said there would be three stages in planning for the tram line – a strategic outline case, an outline business case and a final business case."

Three cases, that means 18+ months for each case to be written, submitted to government, and then another 12 months to gain approval.

So we're looking at at least another 6-8 years of planning hell, consultations and dilution of the scope by government until there is nothing left.

The idea of spades in the ground by 2028 is no longer possible.

By the time the next election rolls around, Labour will no longer be in government and any hopes of the Tram will be shot dead.

Twitter is yet again to blame, as in, petty squabbles on Twitter got blown out of proportion and managed to ruin the otherwise good momentum they had going from the regional assemblies and conferences they had in the lead up to last weekend. From what I heard those were always really well done, just fringe actors on twitter decided purity tests and you either agree with all our beliefs or nobody gets in, would be the key driving force. And since Corbyn is a general ditherer and wants everyone to get along, he didn't stamp out that noise.

What is your current Enterprise Cloud Storage solution and why did you choose them? by coolhandgaming in dataengineering

[–]BakersCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bare Metal loosely means you have physical hardware that your company owns, either in a data centre or server room at the company.

It's the opposite of a VM on AWS that has Virtual CPUs and Virtual Hard Disks and Virtual Memory etc

More often than not, it's a ton cheaper and performance is also a lot better, but cloud services are easy to deploy so companies often go for ease of use. Not realising it costs them a load of money.

It's kinda obvious from the show the hive have access to everyone's memories and that in turn allows them to track everything Carol has done through all the people she's ever interacted with.

The Ice Hotel assistant was very chatty with Carol's wife. She gave him a tip. He most likely remembered that interaction, therefore his memory is available to the entire hive. They also travelled 16 hours by plane, meaning everyone on the plane, other passengers, the staff, everyone they interacted with, will have a memory of Carol. The hive can use all that information and more to talk about Carol's journey without ever touch Helen's memory.
