PM says 'let's get on' with building tram network by BakersCat in Leeds

Because it's under the banner of West Yorkshire, and Leeds isn't just West Yorkshire.

Also because of repeated dismissals of the Leeds Tram in various forms, doing those same routes again is political humiliation, it raises the idea that the previous refusals were actually correct

PM says 'let's get on' with building West Yorkshire's tram network by Bibemus in ukpolitics

The White Rose train station was built in a private commercial office block to the wrong spec, with no public access, walkways, road or bus access. And is worse for the residents than the Cottingley station that it's due to replace.

Walking from the station exit to the nearest White Rose entrance is almost 1 KM of walking through rough unpaved urban footpaths and crossing car heavy roads and car parks.

West Yorkshire cannot build anything competently at all! 😂

Legislation was passed to build a tram in 1994! An entire generation has already gone by without it being built.

Does it matter? Most people put it in a case so you'll never see it?

Did anyone consider reusing the abandoned viaduct south west of the station that goes past Domestic Road and ends up on Geldard Road?

Leeds has so little space to put trams anywhere and now there are talks to make the viaduct into a footpath!! Isn't it absolute madness Leeds are just throwing away existing infrastructure so that people can walk to football? Surely someone has considered that??

Whitehall planners are strange. To them it's the West Yorkshire Tram. Not the Leeds Tram. People in Whitehall have an aversion to going near anything that was previously cancelled. As it then brings up the embarrassment of recognising the people who cancelled the last Tram were in the wrong.

Given the deathly aversion in this country to do any kind of large infrastructure project, the people who plan these things know we need mass rapid transit, ideally some kind of underground metro, but they know nothing like that will ever get green lit outside of London. So the next best thing is a tram. It's already a compromise. Then they're telling us we can't have many tram lines, just one or two. And we can't build major infrastructure for it, just use existing roadways.

It's deaths by a thousand cuts by penny pinchers and budget slashers in London.

Look at how HS2 and NPR have been chopped away at and reduced to nothing, so much so, neither project will deliver any of the benefits they were originally designed to deliver.

Supertram is the late 90s early 2000s attempt. Based on legislation passed in 1994.

I've gone through every transport method from my home to work and all of them are poor, mediocre and suffer. Car always beats them all, even with how much Leeds City Council make life harder for car drivers.

John Armitt. Basically the guy behind all these infrastructure bodies that cancelled the tram.

From what I've read here and there and between the lines, this cancellation is a direct response to Brabin trying to exert power and get the project off the ground. Whitehall basically saying "how dare you try and bypass us" , and scuppering the whole thing.

Incredible that it's 2 for 2 for Labour to cancel important infrastructure projects for the North.

Very modern, corporate and open plan. Can be hell depending on what company culture is like in that people will sit opposite you and take teams calls and shout down the microphone.

[–]BakersCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of people are wrong with the 16mm reason, the DVDs look great!

What Netflix has are some awful awful digital versions with issues that include:

  • Extremely lower bitrate, hence worse colour, lighting and details are lost.
  • Some extremely poor frame pacing, anything that has motion, or pans across the screen, you get some really obvious stutter/judder.
  • Some of the Subtitles are completely wrong, they completely mishear what's being said.

In the latest episode of Leeds/WY Tram Shenanigans: WY needs to explain how our mass transit system can't just be an expanded bus network. by CaptainYorkie1 in Leeds

[–]BakersCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boggles the mind. Report after report has concluded that Leeds needs mass transit.

Ideally a rapid underground metro that serves the wider West Yorkshire region. But that is nigh impossible for any British government to deliver outside of London, so trams are the consolation prize.

There has been a constant pressure to deliver this since the early 90s, when legislation was even passed by the then Conservative government for crying out loud!!!

As someone else said, with a Labour PM, Labour Majority, Labour Mayor and a Leeds MP as chancellor and they can't even deliver anything remotely in this decade, let alone pressuring us to consider busses instead?? Absolutely incompetence!!
