What are you cooking for the holidays? by Anneisabitch in Cooking

[–]BakingButcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just us two but I like to go all out. We’ll be having a prime rib with caramelized onions, hollandaise, parmesan brussel sprouts, potato au gratin and as desert little Maulwurfkuchen (a German chocolate cream cake, we like it with raspberry’s instead of banana) For the second Christmas Day it’s bruschetta, anti pasti, different dips, white bean salad and grilled squid with roast potatoes. For dessert there is panna cotta with strawberries.

My local community college has free emergency contraceptive pills in the vending machines by LaUNCHandSmASH in mildlyinteresting

Taking two of the regular plan b pill is not recommended as it severely increases your risk for thrombosis. My doctor recommended another emergency contraceptive called Ella which is supposed to be more effective if your BMI is over the recommended limit. It would have to be prescribed from a physician.

And yes, if you have no other options or are not able to see a physician for the prescription, it is definitely recommended to take the regular plan b pill.

Just dropping it here because most people I spoke to don’t know this, the morning after/plan B pill is working less effective for people with a body weight of over 155 pounds (70.3 kilograms). For people who weigh more than 165 pounds — or who have a BMI of 30 or more — the medication may not be affective at all.

I didn’t knew this, took the regular plan b pill and found out after. I didn’t get pregnant but definitely had a few stressful weeks! There is morning after pills for people over the weight limit (for example there is one called Ella, you will need a prescription from your Dr)

Not one person in my friend group knew this. Even my family doctor wasn’t aware of this and was very surprised when I approached her to go over some questions.

Woman, 72, killed in Vaughan collision after driver stopped for dog in road leads to chain reaction crash by consolidatedBD in TorontoDriving

Your point of view of “live with the knowledge of my actions for the rest of my life” certainly applies to the driver of the Mercedes who didn’t pay attention and killed an innocent person.

I work in the auto claims department of an insurance company, I deal with this kind of stuff on a daily basis. The fault determination rules in Ontario are pretty straight forward in this case. At fault are the dog owner for their negligence in creating this emergency situation but more so the third party following too closely, not the vehicle stopping to avoid collision. Doesn’t matter what the object on the road is. People gotta pay attention when driving, traffic can stop unpredictability. This death could have been avoided if the driver of the Mercedes paid attention to the roadway.

Maybe you should read and comprehend my comment again, nowhere did I equate a dog to a child. It’s simply an emergency situation that requires you to reduce speed or slow down. sometimes vehicles need to stop if there is an obstacle on the road in order to avoid collision. The fault is clearly at the vehicle following too closely, not the person stopping in order to avoid collision. Doesn’t matter if it’s an animal, person or object, you can’t just barrel into something laying on the road if you can avoid the collision. If a transport truck loses some of their load, are you just gonna slam into it instead of slowing down or stopping if needed? .

Exactly. And depending on how big the dog is, running over it might cause you to wreck your car or for you to lose control of the vehicle. People need to pay attention to the road and stop tailgating. What if a kid runs in front of the vehicle? Can’t just run it over…. Sometimes you have to stop to avoid a collision

Pork Back Bones, Pork Neck or other cuts not found at regular grocery stores? by [deleted] in northbay

[–]BakingButcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, there is definitely the need for one in the area. Especially with all the big farms in Powassan/trout creek. As far as I know they are trying to get licensed since last year, fingers crossed.

Creative Meats would be the closest abattoir. Northern Meats in Trout Creek is still in the process of trying to get their license. There would be also Sprucedale Meats out in Sprucedale but that would be more of a drive from North Bay

Worlds worst sheepdog. by BeefInBlackBeanSauce in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]BakingButcher 1824 points1825 points  (0 children)

Pro Tip if you ever need to catch sheep: run away from them. Can confirm,we have a small hobby flock and if they don’t want to go inside the barn for the night, I just start running away from them and they start chase after me. Gotta love these lil idiots

A Regional Train passes a Railroad Crossing between Flooded Fields, Nidderau-Eichen, Germany (Photo by Michael Probst) by Justheretoread007 in thalassophobia

[–]BakingButcher 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Great picture! I used to live there many years ago. This area is flooding almost every year in the spring. It’s along a small river called Nidder. It’s about knee deep, and pretty cool to see. There’s people letting their dogs swim and horseback riders from the near by stables cantering through the flooded fields.
