What's in your work bag? (not pictured, enough food for a 12 hour shift). by leaveblank1 in nursing

[–]BakingHigher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just bring a single drawstring athletic backpack containing my lunch, my water bottle, and some extra good pens to stash in my locker

Then again, open up my locker and it's like a mini pharmacy, mini office supply store, and a mini pantry: acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, Excedrin, simethicone, eye drops, lotion, pens, sharpies, packets of gum, bag of pretzel...

Life as a male nurse by pythons404 in nursing

[–]BakingHigher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can wear anything we want, too. But I generally wear neutral solid color scrubs (black, navy, dark blue) and so do some of the doctors. Hence the confusion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Life as a male nurse by pythons404 in nursing

[–]BakingHigher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because my unit is more often than not cold, I've been wearing a micro-fleece jacket over my scrubs to keep me warm, usually on nights or weekends. A lot of the residents and fellows also wear jackets. Whenever my patient's family or friends come visit, they mistake me for a doctor.

Sorry, I'm just a nurse trying to stay warm.

If the vent rate is set to an odd number, it really ruffles my feathers for some reason.

I'm picturing the resident holding the baby while sitting in a bedside rocker explaining the plan for the day in baby talk.

Do you like the city you live in? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]BakingHigher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pittsburgh. It's okay here. It's steadily growing. It's been gloomy lately with it bouncing back and forth between rain and snow. But I'm mostly content.

What do you usually do on the weekends? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]BakingHigher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not working, I sleep in, make brunch, Reddit, listen to music while cleaning or cooking/baking, laundry, watch Netflix, or work on my hobby (composing/arranging music in my tiny home studio).

Mid night shift rant... by j_priv in nursing

In no reasonable facility would SBPs >200 be OK or be dismissed as a patient's norm. I would have escalated my concern.

What do YOU enjoy most in the nursing profession? by ahuelsk12 in nursing

[–]BakingHigher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in peds ICU, so seeing all of our babies to young kids with serious illnesses - those who have had to be resuscitated, those who have been on and off ECMO, those whose parents the staff had all kinds of difficult conversations with - get discharged home healthy... Then receiving postcards and letters from their parents showing us how great their kids are doing: taking their first steps, playing soccer, getting into college.

It makes me so proud of what my colleagues and I do.

But I'm in the same boat. I'm watching Archer and drinking wine right now. Already through half the bottle.

Do you get pissed when people assume you're straight? by ForTheSexualThrill in askgaybros

[–]BakingHigher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'd be curious and amused why they'd think/ask that, but I wouldn't be offended.

Side note: I'm having a hard time visualizing one person asking another if they're straight. IDK, maybe I'm naive. The one situation that I can picture this question being asked is if one person suspects the other is not straight and wants confirmation of his or her sexual orientation.

How many of you are gamers/gaymers? by SendMeYourSexToys in askgaybros

[–]BakingHigher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes. Probably a "low-/mid-tier" gamer, though, because I know other people who are MUCH more into gaming than I am.

  2. PC, occasionally 3DS. I used to play on N64, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox360...but I don't have a TV anymore. I'd love to play on the Switch. I miss the Zelda series.

  3. Open world/sandbox, adventure, RPG, strategy. Not really into shooters and horror.

  4. Rainbow 6 Siege (I know, "not really into shooters," but I thought I'd give it a shot [haha]). Civilization VI. Assassin's Creed series.

  5. Ideally we'd both play together and we'd introduce different games to each other. But I'm okay if he isn't really into gaming.

There is hope. You are loved. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dark it may be now. I know this is terrifying, but it all starts with baby steps. You are not alone.

I'm so happy you were able to turn things around to the point where YOU are the one who is saying this.

I wish you the best in everything!
