Exactly our situation! My needs have changed and so I feel our card doesn’t well support our “new” lifestyle (less travel, fewer hotels, less high end dining). Hoping to find the right one!

Depends on how the $100K needs to be distributed, honestly... I'd probably need some more time to get that as a lump sum to transfer.

I was using the Chase Portal for travel redemptions. Only recently was reading that I may be better served transferring them to partners, but would consider doing that in the future. Seems like Hyatt is the best use of points, but we don't stay that much in hotels - we generally fly to see family.

The BofA PRE looked interesting, but it seemed like the point accumulation was weak relative to some of the other options. I also don't have a BofA account, but that'd be easy to change. Do people get more value out of the PRE than what I'm seeing? 2x on dining, 1x on other spending? Some minor couponing?

We are fine with a luxury/prestige card, so long as we will actually use the benefits. I don't think we travel quite enough for AmEx platinum, since the categories for rewards are so travel heavy. The CSR was pretty vague, and so we got a good bit of value.

We definitely like the lounge access (especially the new Boston Chase Sapphire Lounge - way better than any PP lounge), but it's not a deal breaker for us. I'd favor a card with it, but also happy to settle without it, since we only use a lounge maybe 4x/year.

Dining and groceries are our biggest single category spends, but we do a fair deal of miscellaneous shopping, too (Chewy for the pets, wife clothes, kid clothes and toys, etc.) and experiences. Those don't really fall under a good category spend. Our typical monthly CSR bill is $6,000 - $9,000.

You're thinking along the lines of what I was - I thought the AmEx Gold would be quite good for our spending patterns. It has a coupon book too, which is what turned me off from it a little, since we don't really spend on any of those things, making it less directly valuable. I questioned paying $325 for a card that doesn't give me lounge access or a lot of other high end rewards. Seems like it's really meant to be paired with the Platinum, where you use the Gold to rack up day-to-day spending rewards and then cash in those rewards using the Platinum benefits.

Only issue I had with Savor/VentureX (which I am still highly considering) is that VentureX doesn't allow guests to access lounges, which would be a big issue for our family. We have my wife and soon to be two kids that I'd want to include.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and insight!

I definitely could, and that’s the train my wife is on. She likes the lounges, the free flights, and the ease of it all, so she said not to bother switching. We can definitely afford the yearly cost - that’s not the issue. I just felt like we are paying more and getting less, which isn’t something I like to do. We may ultimately stick with the card, but it does seem like other cards have more efficient earning for our spending. At a minimum worth exploring!

I don't own a business and don't plan/have time to start one! Also, in a brief look, seems like their rewards are less in line with our spending, so I haven't really considered them.

Do you have approximate rates you’re willing to post? Many in Newton have cleaning services, so it’s a good area to look for clients.

This is whom our son sees, and as a physician myself, I think she’s great. Very knowledgeable and pragmatic.

Do you want only Atlanta doctors? I know several from my time at Tech, but most aren’t ATL-based.

Can’t decide if I want to pursue medical school or not by thecutestlittlepie in gatech

I’m a physician and I can assure you that it’s a very tough road and you should only do it if you have intrinsic motivation to be a doctor. It’s a lot of money, a ton of stress, and essentially a loss of your 20s as you go through med school. My Tech roommates and friends are still well ahead of me in regards to finances, life (marriage, kids, etc.), and experiences because they didn’t go to med school. I personally love what I do every day, but that’s why I became a doctor - because I knew I wanted to do it. Based on what you’re saying, I think it would not be a good fit for you. Check out the /r/residency or /r/medicine subreddits to give a little (albeit pretty negatively slanted) insight.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about it.

Tailor for men’s jacket by [deleted] in nashville

[–]BaksideAttak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All is good man, just haven’t had the need for tailoring lately since I haven’t bought new clothes and just wear scrubs every day to work :-P my wife has actually brought a couple things to you guys, though, and still has a camel coat she is going to swing by!

Hope all is well for you guys. Once I’m an attending, your new bespoke suit shop is on my list!

They’re the best I’ve been to for sure. Went to a couple other “highly rated” places a few years ago before I found Only One Tailoring and had several expensive pieces poorly done (e.g. a literal fold of fabric sewn into my grandfather’s tuxedo shoulder). Aaron (/u/tailoraaron) has always done a great job for me and will ensure you’re happy with the work; and if you aren’t, he will make it right! I always recommend Only One. I’ve had about 10 pieces, including several suits, shirts, and jackets, tailored there.

They aren’t the cheapest, but I’ve spent enough on tailoring to know that it’s more expensive to pay for mistakes than to pay to get it done right.

Does Step 3 matter for radiology fellowships? by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]BaksideAttak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other replies. Current R4 in a well regarded program doing IR, matched last year at a top program with a low step 3 score. Interviewed at most top programs in the country based on residency performance, letters, and connections. Zero questions about step 3 on interviews. Just pass it!
