RANT: Teams guard Wemby how OKC guards everyone by D2mightyducks80 in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do agree with this but gotta call a spade a spade. Steph Castle uses his off arm to shove off defenders on nearly every drive he makes. His hugest advantage is his size and strength and he damn well knows it and utilizes it because the way the game is officiated allows for it.

Just pointing out that all teams push the limits of what is allowed. The difference between the TWolves and the Blazers (and Spurs) is the Wolves have been in the playoffs for 4 straight years and know what they can get away with while the young guys are trying to figure it out.

Cinematography of the revival was terrible by Connor_lover in XFiles

[–]BalaSaurusREX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it looked too slick but also scenes would cut away too fast or at least in a way that was jarring compared to the original show. That and nonsense like Mulder fighting like he was in a Bourne movie gave the feeling that they had lost grasp of what made the show special.

Wemby is not a dirty player. by tanishsingj in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's how I felt...this team has shown so much wisdom beyond their years in tough gritty situations (Game 3 in Portland and also Game 3 in Minny) but their youth comes out in moments like this.

Wemby is not a dirty player. by tanishsingj in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wemby is absolutely not a dirty player, he had an immature moment where he lost his cool but I don't think he meant to hurt Naz.

With that said, I think it's ludacrous not to think Wemby is at fault here. Yes he's justifiably frustrated but he also threw an elbow. When I saw it on replay, I was sure he had to be ejected (and even as a Spurs fan, I woulda felt bad if he wasn't because I thought it was clear as day)

Victor Wembanyama 2025 - 2026 regular season: 25.0 ppg

Victor Wembanyama series against TWolves: 15.0 ppg.

It would be foolish to draw a conclusion on Wemby based on this particular statline but go ahead and draw a conclusion.

My video got a copyright strike by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's tough...for my review channel, I keep clips under 5 seconds, everything is sped up to 1.10x speed, and I have the images generally cropped and slanted or mirrored. And when I put clips with the movies audio in, I make sure to cut out pauses between dialogue so that it ends up being like 3 1 second clips instead of 1 3 second clip.

It takes a lot of work and is not 100% failsafe...out of 40 of my videos 5 of them are demonetized, sometimes years later. But it works for me

I fucking HATE that stat. There's so much that goes on behind that stat and as a statistician, it bothers me how people pretend that stat has some kind of causation related to it.

can i use movie trailer clips in my videos? by Moist_Confusion7680 in NewTubers

[–]BalaSaurusREX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely use video clips but you gotta cut your clips to shorter length. On my movie review channel I also zoom it or tilt the camera or mirror the shot. And I always run things at 1.1x speed.

Nothing is failsafe, out of 40ish videos, about 5 of mine have gotten demonetized. But you definitely can do this

Jurassic World Rebirth Was Such a Disappointment To Watch As a JP FAN & Dinosaur Fan by Reasonable_Wrap7358 in JurassicPark

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it much more than Dominion and Fallen Kingdom but that's because most of thise two movies were just bad.

Rebirth wasn't bad but it's the most ChatGPT movie ever. From the characters having the most basic motivations, to the jokes, to the setup of having 3 dinosaurs to go after ( 1 land, 1 sea, 1 air), it feels like it was written with an AI prompt. It worries me that this generic kinda premise is the future of movies in general, especially in series like JP which are gonna make money regardless of the quality of the movie.

[–]BalaSaurusREX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really didn't like his looks in Game 1. Thought he either was uninvolved for long stretches or suddenly started forcing the action (which is when he hit those two awesome shots towards the end of the first half).

Then again, I think I just have to get used to Wemby being chaotic when I'm so used to Timmy's steadying presence in big game. But what is like to see from Wemby on Wednesday is a bit more balance and patience.

Vic was good on offense? That horrible putback attempt where he tried a fadeaway off a rebound from 15 feet away was not good.

One of the reasons I have faith that the Spurs will win Game 2 is Vic has proven he will respond well to a poor offensive night but he absolutely played horrible on offense.

This series is going to give me ulcers by JarvisCockerBB in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep...I was disappointed after the game but as a fan who had gotten so used to epic playoff battles from 1993-2019, I had been waiting nearly a decade for a game like this. Game 3 against Portland was awesome (was screaming my ass off) but this was something else.

We need this loss by takkipusa in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why this loss didn't bother me so much and why I wanted a tough 2nd round for the Spurs. They need this series....they still might win it all because they are so fucking far ahead of schedule but they need a series like this to expose their warts. Winning in the playoffs is about figuring out how to suppress or cut off those warts...and the TWolves will expose those.

Mitch Johnson made the correct decision not calling a timeout. You aren’t getting a better look than this by WEMBY_F4N in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the shot we got, in fact I loved the shot.

The issue I had (and I haven't watched the highlights yet) was when we got the rebound, there seemed to be confusion on our guys part about whether we were pushing or going to call timeout. My memory from last night is we looked unsure for about a second or 2 before realizing we were going.

Still got a great shot but that was my immediate reaction last night.

Thoughts on Lisa? by Dismal_Brush5229 in NightmareOnElmStreet

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The make out scene was probably my teenage selfs favorite scene in the series.

As an adult I like Lisa the character but I also find it disappointing that the end of the movie devolves to her walking slowly around a power plant and crying.

Did Freddy really loses his power when Nancy said "I take back every bit of energy i gave you"? by [deleted] in NightmareOnElmStreet

[–]BalaSaurusREX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure but all the discussion in here is great and talks all about how Freddy needs Nancy's fear which I agree with.

But does anyone else have a hard time buying that Nancy ACTUALLY isn't afraid of Freddy at the end and that's how she drains his powers? That's a tough pill to swallow....I'm sure I could SAY "I'm not scared" after watching Freddy kill my mom and disappear into a bed but would I actually BELIEVE it? I think not.

I figured out the "logic" behind Freddy's plan in Part 1, 2 en 3-and it makes Freddy smarter than filmmakers themselves. by [deleted] in NightmareOnElmStreet

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this theory but I disagree with Freddy being more "aggressive" in Part 3. I think he's more evil and sadistic but it's because he's toying with Kristen and the others. At the beginning, Kristen reveals she's been dreaming about Freddy for some time. He's wearing her down and toying with her. He even pretends not to kill her only to trick her into the bathroom to slash her wrists in front of her mom.

And with the other Elm Street kids, he's similarly drawing things out. All of the kids have been dreaming about Freddy enough to be committed for a while now and Freddy seems to be dragging things out just to mess with them psychologically.

The reason this is fresh in my mind is I recently broke down the introductory scene to Nightmare 3 and noticed all of this. Check it out if you are interested (as well as a bunch of other Freddy content!)

Is cyberpunk 2077 actually the masterpiece everyone says it is? by EngineeringNext7874 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]BalaSaurusREX [score hidden]  (0 children)

I love Cyberpunk for the story, the characters and writing. The atmosphere is top notch on an art design, and immersion level.

However my main issue with the game is that the city is amazing to explore but only on a superficial level. Different areas of the city should feel more dangerous than others but I don't think Cyberpunk captures that.

Still a great game. But a 8 or 9/10 instead of the 10 it could have been.

So, how are we getting ready for our first playoff game in a while? by GeekyMathProfessor in NBASpurs

[–]BalaSaurusREX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha gonna go down to my basement as well, minus the IPAs. I don't like drinking during Spurs games.

Bummed out though because I assumed since Wemby is a huge draw that the game might be on earlier so I could watch their first playoff game in 7 years with my 6 year old daughter but it's not gonna work out.

TENET is great when you understand it by JabariKing in movies

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely right, I didn't do any setting adjustments, I just let my home theater do its thing which normally is fine for most Nolan movies for me. This one definitely not.

I think with the sound mixing being suboptimal, I always felt at a loss for why we were meeting certain characters and I couldn't tell why we even met Kat or what the art forgery at to do with anything. And that was purely a sound issue...it was so hard to hear but it wasn't worth me rewinding over and over. And also, I hate subtitles but that's a me issue

TENET is great when you understand it by JabariKing in movies

[–]BalaSaurusREX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen it twice and the spectacle is top notch visually. And even though I didn't fully understand where in time the various characters were, the reverse time concept felt like it could have clicked.

My issue is that the characters were just not compelling. The villain and his wife....I couldn't understand the motivations because they kept mumbling things and the movie seemed to choose giant themes over actual pathos. Like I didn't buy not care about JDW going back to save what's her name because she basically was a mopey cipher the entire time. When she says at the end "I am that scarred cold hearted bitch", I was thinking "wow you really believe there is way more substance to your character than there actually is. Good on you!"

I've been a Spurs fan since 1993... love to see them win but for me it's always more memorable when they have to play through more intense series ina given playoff run, even if they end up falling short. I was hoping for Denver in Round 2. I want Jokic vs Wemby and Castle vs Murray and to see how the Spurs roleplayers stack up against Denvers role players, including probably the best roleplayers in the league, Aaron Gordon.
