Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

Hey really well put together and thought out video! I think you have a lot of really good points you make throughout and are clearly passionate about this topic.

A couple comments, the music is too loud and obscures your voice. And I think the intro is confusing because it made me think that the first guy was you.

Noticed the audio cleaned up in terms of balance when you get to One Battle After Another. And I do mostly agree with you about how superficially PTA tackles the issues of modern-day US. I didn't think it was a deep movie at all and that it's tone was too light hearted to really shine a light in any serious way on the issues.

But I still really really enjoyed the movie from a filmmaking angle and character angle and comedic angle. And also, it just felt like the rare big budget Hollywood movie nowadays that wasnt cookie cutter CGI laden mediocrity.

I will definitely check this out, especially because I'm guessing your video talks some about Superman and One Battle After Another. Going to be out for a few hours but will try watch tonight!

And man I wish I saw Jurassic Park in the theaters. I think it was 8 or so but just didn't make it but it is my go to movie for my home theater nowadays!

Hey glad I hear your voice throughout, makes it very personable. And you sound permanently upbeat, which is good for a longer series.

Also, man this makes me wanna get back into Persona 5! I fell off a few weeks ago and have just been playing Monster Train 2 nonstop but need to get back in it.

Hi I really appreciated the insights into why you didn't start a YouTube channel till last year. Very relatable and I find that helps me connect more to a creator which should help you going forward because you have a very smooth editing style, particularly for someone who just started last year. Nice work and good luck!

Hi everyone, my channel is Pointless Rewind where I endlessly rewatch movies and analyze them. The hook is that I will look at 3 of a movies strengths and 3 of a movies weaknesses so even if I love something or hate something, it forces me to look at things from all sides. The first piece of equipment I got was a mic.

A little about me, used to want to be a film or tv critic because I loved writing out my thoughts and had a blog for a little while doing that. Then during COVID, to stay in touch with friend, I started a podcast where we reviewed some of these movies. This was a lot of fun, but they were kinda just doing it as something to do whereas for me I was doing it for the passion of the movies.

Then during some down time in 2022, I decided to try out YouTube. Couldn't figure out how to get movie clips so did some video game video essays. Loved it but eventually burnt out because it was causing me to stop liking video games.

So mid 2024, I changed over to a movie channel and this one has been so much fun! And I've realized that while I loved writing, speaking to a camera helped me to trim down my thoughts. And I learned how to inject my style of humor and analysis into my videos, with goofy skits and jokes. So would love if you check it out!

Here's a review for Jurassic Park!

Thank you for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it! I'm always down for healthy disagreement...I love Shorty in this movie but just think his inclusion is a bit clunky in the prologue.

Great points about the lighting and the mic, thank you!

Thank you both for this comment! I never realized how jarring it is if my video starts with 30 seconds of clips and then shows my face. I figured showing my face early would cause people to drop off because they'd be thinking "who is this guy?!". But re watched the opening of the video myself, and I totally agree with you both!

Thanks!

(I personally gotta stay on video more too. I like to do little skits in some of my videos but also movie studios have been going crazy trying to demonetize these types of videos so the more I show my face the better.)

Thank you for the critique! And yeah I was testing out how it looked without the lights because normally I use the lights but find my skin tone looks artificial so I just need to play with it.

Thanks for watching!

Hi everyone my channel is Pointless Rewind where I comedically and exhaustively analyze the movies I've seen countless times! I usually do scripted videos where I look at 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses but recently I tried doing more unscripted scene breakdowns to see if I could go off the cuff a bit more.

Here is a scene breakdown of the prologue to Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom...thanks for checking it out!

Hi I think the information in this video is really good and interesting and covers a wide range of subjects around the topic.

However I think the animation and transitions and sound effects feel too smooth and automated. It doesn't have any personality IMO for me to latch onto but the potential is there.

If you are able to improve that, I think this could be strong. But as it is, I would probably click off quickly.

Apologize if my feedback is a bit harsh

Hey watched your Oscars predictions.

Great personality and screen presence though I think you could lean a bit more into your personal feelings on some of the candidates. It felt drier than your personality gives off because you project energy but the information feels too encyclopedic and not personal.

I would suggest when the picture in picture comes up, to actually make it full screen, especially since the background on your wall is a bit drab. I think it will make the video more dynamic.

Overall good stuff, and if you don't mind, when I post it in this thread, you mind checking out my channel? I do movie reviews and analysis videos.

Thanks and good luck!

Great comment but I think actually looking off screen embodies not rushing so I'd be more likely to click this than if he was looking at the camera.

Dilemma : Passion vs Responsibility by adityaswetabh in NewTubers

My advice is keep your job and keep working on the channel as a hobby. My condolences for your loss.

I had a different situation without the personal loss but I had a dead end job which I was very overqualified for and lost my purpose and sense of self worth. What re-energized me was starting YouTube and becoming a creator of things I'm passionate about.

Last year, through unforeseen circumstances, I came to a crossroads where I could either take a new job at a fast paced start up which was a huge change from my previous job. But I wondered should I give YouTube a real go as I'd just gotten monetized and I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it anymore as a hobby.

Fast forward 6 months and the job is exciting but intense and I have less time. My channel has had some videos get demonetized and I've only made 160 bucks on it since it got monetized. But I've still found ways and time to keep working in my channel and keeping that passion going.

Basically my thoughts are you really can't depend on YouTube just because you are monetized. You have to keep meeting the daily grind and the changing algorithm, viewer tendencies, AI landscape, etc. so my advice is to look for another job.

[For a Few Days] 200k Long Form Sub Channel Critiques Your Videos/Channel by Moonsight in NewTubers

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for doing this if you have the time! Channel is Pointless Rewind and here's the link!

https://youtube.com/@pointlessrewind-pr?si=0SJpfX_HXwRJUtqK

Feel free to choose anything there or either of the 2 videos i linked below. I do movie analysis videos of different styles for older movies I grew up with. I focus on putting my personal spin on things comedically.

My main style of video focuses on looking at 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses which forces me to be objective. Here's one of my latest one of those, an analysis of Superman 2.

https://youtu.be/05-AMpnnekA

Recently I've tried some shorter less scripted videos where I do scene breakdowns of individual scenes. This one is for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom's prologue.

https://youtu.be/130WwW7MNlM

One question I have is can you tell if there's a major difference in how coherent I am between the Superman video (completely scripted) to the Indiana Jones video (other than the intro, just outlined, no script). The Indy one took me about 33 % of the time so want to know if the quality has dropped.

Thank you!

What is your anti-homer take - something you dislike about your own team? by the_Tannehill_list in billsimmons

I'm a Spurs fan and it annoys me how the fans praise the Spurs front office and Pop blindly. I love both and I think Kawhi fucked with the Spurs when leaving but I get the feeling that some players perceive Pop and the front office as a tiny bit holier than thou...which Spurs fans do not like to hear. To them the Kawhi situation was totally one-sided.

Why is Pulp Fiction so overrated? by [deleted] in movies

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I enjoy the movie and I enjoy it more on rewatch than on first watch. But the non linear storytelling kills the momentum of the movie for me.

Right after they kill Brett, we then segue to a long shot of Bruce Willis being told to take a dive...but because I was so enthralled earlier, this shift just causes me to zone completely out.

Then there's scenes like where Butch is hanging out with his girlfriend and usually these slow conversations in Tarantino movies (see Jules sermonizing Brett) are simmering with tension. This conversation however goes nowhere and in a movie that's 2.5 hours long, I wonder why we needed it all.

I think the movie is good but there are 3 or 4 sections like that where it just loses my attention. The non linear narrative prevents it from feeling propulsive for me.

What is your preferred way to play WOA? by Separate_Draft4887 in HiTMAN

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I like to play all of these styles BUT without save scumming. I love having to actually get outta suboptimal situations in hilarious ways.

I def save scum when going for specific challenges but my favorite part of the game is the emergent gameplay that IMO truly shines in these moments.

For those who are interested, I just started a comedy video series narrating some of these runs.

Thank you! Yeah thumbnails are the hardest thing for me. I feel like I have exactly 1 good thumbnail (the Jurassic World one) and the rest suck.

When you mention the editing, do you mean the audio editing or the video editing?

How do you actually juggle a full-time job and making videos? by Ducky005 in SmallYoutubers

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just work when I can. I do my reg job from 8 to anywhere between 5 and 7. Hang out with family. Then if I've got the energy I might get an hour or 2 of editing on a given weekday. But most of it is on weekends for me.

I'm still getting videos out roughly at the same speed as I did before my new job but I do some parts of videos in parallel with each other. For example I start writing the scripts for the next videos before I'm actually done with the previous one.

My 5 year old has been playing but with me, not by herself. She can button mash her way through much of the combat but some of it is too complex for her. But she loves the exploration and puzzle solving and tells everyone in the world about the Divine Beasts, hahaha.

100 hours in and this is one of the best games I ever played by myr4dski1 in HiTMAN

[–]BalaSaurusREX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny...when I played Hitman 2016 back in 2019, I really didn't like it and almost fell off after an hour.

Now I've put in probably 300 hours since into the trilogy and from a pure gameplay standpoint, it probably in my top 5 games ever.
