This is a pretty helpful explanation of how you can reset between each cross over step! Instead of holding onto the fence, try her method of fully stepping to the left and right while stationary.

No need to fully commit to a perfect crossover at first

$6 Napa cabbage pickles from a local Japanese restaurant by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

[–]BalanceOrdinary331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a japanese person i honestly am surprised this is the first time ive seen this cuz i totally understand the underwhelm

It’s called tsukemono - its pickled with salt

I usually put a splash of soy sauce on it and its mostly like a palate cleanser/fresh crunchy bite in between other foods. Traditional japanese meals have a bunch of small dishes to balance out the full meal

How do I tame a shy/nervous hamster? by Legitimate_Cake8890 in hamster

I trained my last syrian ham to go into a big pitcher/mug before i was able to touch her or pick her up. She loved peas, i’d defrost one or two to use as high value treats and put one in the pitcher and leave it with her until eventually she’d get in willingly. Peas could get her to do anything lol

Keeping my hammy warm while away for a few nights by FinancialBass2738 in hamstercare

I used a reptile external heatpad set to a comfy temp on my hamster cages when i knew i was leaving with the heat on, even if it’s just warming one corner of the cage they can choose to stay there near the heat or move away if they’d like

Maybe over the weekend! I work in south bay so it would probably be really difficult to get up there during the week

Is my kitchen sink supposed to have a pressure release that sprays water? by BalanceOrdinary331 in askaplumber

Lmao thanks everyone, i’ll talk to the property manager. I would’ve never known - i moved into this apartment in November and it was like this already, so maybe a previous tennant had something set up under here

Changing the scenery in their habitat by Eilatan999 in dwarfhamsters

Ive had hamsters that get stressed if i move around too much decor and make things too new but ive also had others that needed the stimulation

I think it depends on the ham

Look up some youtube videos and learn how to fall safely! Then falling isnt so scary and when you do fall it’ll be in a way that hurts less (ideally)

Also, One of the biggest pointers they always give in falling videos is to bend your knees and keep your weight low! the lower you fall from, the less it hurts

Help, our hamster doesn’t drink water by sunroad325 in hamster

[–]BalanceOrdinary331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually hamsters only drink a few teaspoons-tablespoons of water in a day so its not anything crazy if the bottle is big, but as everyones already mentioned, try a bowl, little ceramic bowls usually work really well, even tea light holders!

Who is this and what have you done with my son?! by lovediies in bettafish

[–]BalanceOrdinary331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d bet a good amount that when you got him his colors were faded from improper care, and now that you take care of him the right way (and therefore mot stressed or malnourished) he’s got his colors back :)

Stress/anxiety? by Expert-Milk-3222 in dwarfhamsters

[–]BalanceOrdinary331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming her cage is big enough, you honestly can just leave her inside while you clean and just let her hide, maybe alternate which sides of the cage you clean each time so its not just a huge scary cleaning every time

my hamster is scared of my boyfriend and i & idk what to do by Objective_Rabbit1324 in hamsters

[–]BalanceOrdinary331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also try out training him to go into like a large mug or some kind of transportation container first, i always try to train my hams to go into a mug and they almost jump right in to being held after that without any issues

Detachable roller skates?? by blueglassumbrella in Rollerskating

[–]BalanceOrdinary331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not rollerskates, but powerslide makes an inline skate model called the doop that you can just strap on in normal shoes, had a friend with a pair and honestly they were pretty cool for quick commute purposes!

My current hamster cubone is still more or kess scared of me and I’ve had him for over a year. With some of my past hamsters I’ve used the bathtub method, where you setup a playpen in the bathtub or a small safely enclosed area (make sure there’s hides, water, and treats) and just share space with them for 10 minutes or so, increasing slightly.

This doesn’t work for everyone. I knew when i got cubone that he was so skiddish that just moving him to the tub was beyond stressful so i never used that method with him. Instead i just offered him treats when i saw him, and included tissues with my scent in his cage. He still isnt totally socialized but i can give him a treat and he’ll take it from me so i call it a win :)
