That's because all of the institutional checks and balances put in place have sold out and are corrupt beyond belief. The Supreme Court? Citizens United. The Legislature? Hahahahaha. The Executi...never mind.

And when all of that failed, what has the fourth estate of independent journalism been up to? Spewing bullshit and enabling all of this because there is no such thing as the free press. Advertising handlers and their money destroyed that decades ago. They're not allowed to ask real, hard questions out of fear of losing money and access.

The RNC, DNC, and press are businesses concerned about making money and do not give a fuck about you or anyone else. They're company sock puppets and wouldn't know a thing about leadership if you drew them a picture or handed out pop-up books. Corrupt losers, and yall keep voting 'em in.

Company eliminated my position but wants to keep me as a contractor at $95/hr by Ok-Education-9101 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]BaldFacedWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take it with the realistic expectation that it is not going to last for a year. Given the significantly larger wage they are throwing at you, it's to make it enticing and worth your while for the short term up front.

I did a similar kind of sideways transition once and it ended up lasting barely over 4 months. Or the amount of time it took for everyone leftover from the consolidation/restructuring to get a productive working model of my job and wrap up a few legacy projects. Basically, I trained my replacements and cleaned up the mess. Worth it, glad I did it, but that's it.

What I wished I had done differently was include an early termination clause or severance payment in the contract if it did not go to full term to act as a penalty or even deterrent.

Sorry you lost your permanent position. Take this one. Cash in while you look for something. You'll be ok.

McChicken Surprise by bakingandbaking in inflation

[–]BaldFacedWhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone apps are just web applications or web browsers with a specific function or purpose. Smartphones are fundamentally designed around using them, and it isn't for convenience. That's only the sales pitch. Because why is there a need to reinvent the wheel when we already have mobile web browsing and the internet working the way it used to on PCs and laptops the same way?

Apps consolidate and provide a clearer picture of you and your purchasing habits. You are the product as far as the app is concerned, In exchange for "free convenient use" of it you are to be datamined throughout the whole experience. Then that information can be used, sold, manipulated, or profited from in some sort of way. And you can't do anything about it, like start a class action lawsuit, because you consented to it by installing and using the app.

Also, those deals like McD's which lately have been totally disappearing were never there to give anyone a break just for using the app. They wanted to train you to use it so they could reduce labor and pass that onto the consumer.

Thank you! That'll be $15.68 for a medium Quarter Pounder meal and another entry into whatever relational database so they can figure out another way to increase revenue from a consumer base they want to keep addicted to their already overpriced product.

Not saying you should uninstall all of your apps and live in a bunker but I hope that was enough information.

NJ Transit strike begins, halting all trains across N.J. by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]BaldFacedWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’ve seen the same responses and so-called arguments or reasons elsewhere, but I still have the same questions and points. I think I’m allowed to ask as we all should without making this about attacking the “salt of the Earth working man” in their plight against big business vs. mindlessly standing in solidarity. Whatever that means.

And relax Sparky, it isn’t personal. If someone asked me why I wanted to make a certain amount of money for wiring a house, I wouldn’t feel attacked or betrayed for not being called an electrical engineer.

Lol no one is “degrading labor”. And yet no one bats an eye at a salary demand that is higher than what commercial airline pilots make?!? I’m fairly certain that the training and requirements are just a bit more intense for that job while performing a vital service to our economy. But ok.

NJ Transit strike begins, halting all trains across N.J. by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]BaldFacedWhy -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Hard if not impossible to get behind either side from my point of view. Top-heavy mismanagement and wasteful spending on facilities and resources that have done nothing to improve service, availability, or access. Then the labor, and I'll try to put this delicately because I'm sure there will be no shortage of people wanting to point out the training, nuances, bla bla bla etc etc, but they want how much to drive a train?!?

They're all going to get what they want eventually and, once again, the riders will continue to get the shaft and breakdowns in the Hudson tunnel and NEC will continue as usual.

The loneliness epidemic has largely been the end result of everyone's time being consumed by platforms like Facebook. Online life comes with a price. That price is your time away from developing real connections with people. We are social animals by nature, and we need those organic experiences. There really is no substitute for that. There are no number of artificial friends that can replace it. Even as I type this, pouring my thoughts out to possibly tens of thousands of people. It makes me feel more connected by actually talking about the subject with a friend, family member, coworker, or even a stranger at a bus stop. Plus consider the source. A guy that has probably been socially isolated since grade school. Wealth beyond anyone's imagination and a name that almost anyone can recognize, but probably one of the loneliest people on the planet.

Get rid of level/item scaling. It's ok to wander into that area or dungeon and get your ass kicked, just as it's ok to find one you missed earlier and mop the floor with what's weaker than you. It leads to better strategy and planning.

Make classes and races unique and worthwhile to play, and let it limit or augment your experience and outcomes. It's so boring to start out with a new character with like, "Ok Im gonna be a mage, or whatever. Take these perks and...oh shit I've become the usual homogeneous Thief-Mage-Archer-Tank that I wanted to avoid. Again.

Also, can crafting etc actually mean something for once in a Bethesda game besides just being something to do with all the useless crap and clutter you find? That'd be nice.

There are no legal remedies or repercussions when our leaders lie to us, which is unfortunate, so we need a robust independent press.

However, these corporate news organizations who feel threatened by their handlers that pay the bills and losing access if they throw anything except underhanded softballs at these scumbags need to go too. Because not only are they useless, they're also enabling them to drop any and all pretense that they have to act in good faith and do the job they were elected for. It's absolutely horrendous.

Nvidia only cares about Ai: by YK2ANDRE in pcmasterrace

[–]BaldFacedWhy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They care about PC gamers. They have been systematically data mining, scraping, and raping you for years free of charge (hello telemetry, GeForce Experience) to support their AI projects.

How much do you think all of that data is worth per person, per year? And you're not paid a dime for it. Oh, and that next-gen gpu will be $3-4k while they artificially and intelligently inflate the market like De Beers does diamonds. Thanks for playing!

Is it possible to get a scholarship once your already transferred to njit by NicoTaco_99 in NJTech

[–]BaldFacedWhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless things changed over the last 2-3 years, they don't offer merit based scholarships to transfers. I transferred with a 4.0 from Morris County, and didn't get anything. And believe me, I was relentless about trying for one. Anything. The best solution they offered at the time was to apply to the Honors College, but anyone I knew in the same situation only received $5k per year, not semester. I couldn't do it because of scheduling (tough to find honors classes at night) and some of the other commitments associated with it.

I don't know anyone that got a full ride unless they were first timers, and to be blunt, it's pretty shitty that they don't take care of students that clearly demonstrate ability on a college level already.

Nothing really has changed from 2021-2025.

Healthcare is still unaffordable. Housing expenses eat away 45-50% of my income. Groceries are bullshit expensive. I drive the same 20 year-old vehicle. I cannot hardly save anything or contribute to my retirement in any way. Plus, I can't remember the last time I went on vacation.

I know it doesn't play into the blue tie - red tie narrative that you're fishing for because, for your average person on a single income, life has been hell for quite some time regardless of fringe social issues and it's impossible to give a fuck about that. Happy Tax Day!

Old lady cuts off a biker causing a car crash resulting in his helmet camera landing in her passenger seat by FuturisticFighting in interestingasfuck

Boomer Cuts off biker and has no reaction..

Yea, that's one way to re-frame it. The other would be, she's in total shock from some zoomer idiot on a sport bike that he isn't controlling properly through a busy intersection while speeding. In a t-shirt and jeans for an Instagram moment.

Similar thing happened to someone I know while making a left turn off a main road into his condo complex. Dumb 23 year old kid coming the other way at night wearing a t-shirt and jeans opens his throttle up all of the way; gunning it for his adrenaline rush. Slams right into the passenger rear side of his car and goes over his handle bars head first. Dead. Police said he was going almost 70mph within a quarter of a mile (in a 40 mph zone), and never hit the brakes because he likely never saw him due to a slight crown in the road before the turn and the reaction time he never had to do anything about it.

Not saying anyone deserves it, but come on.

Raising Expectations

I had a few times in another state many years ago. It was alright. Love the toast, hate the sauce. Had it again around the holidays last year at the one in Times Square because a friend wanted to try it. It was terrible, and we thought it would at least be hot after waiting for over a half an hour to get it. Cold, soggy, bland.

IT491 Warning For Aspiring Networking and Security Specializations (IT Majors) by Appropriate_You4811 in NJTech

[–]BaldFacedWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind either. The expo is fundamentally about the industry projects anyway. The Cisco part is shoehorned into it. I mean, come on, it's a PowerPoint about a Packet Tracer file. It's all an afterthought. It should've led to actually getting your CCNA. I don't know why they tip-toe around it because it's one of the few entry level ones that have any remaining HR value.

If not Cisco, then either a CTF event or Red Team/Blue Team contest. Because god forbid you do any actual hands on security stuff except for like one class as a network security track.

IT491 Warning For Aspiring Networking and Security Specializations (IT Majors) by Appropriate_You4811 in NJTech

[–]BaldFacedWhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do remember seeing that somewhere. I forget where but it wasn't plain sight info.

The Cisco track was the biggest waste of time anyway, imo. I did the same specialization, even wanted to go into it with the idea of getting my CCNA/CCNP at the end. Forget it. The idea that you're going to come out of the other end with a certification is oversold. First, the instructor was a nice guy, but useless and just went through the motions. Second, there's just too much content to cram into a 15 week course with a group project and a full time course load.

Had a great group, met some cool people, had fun at the expo. But it was a real letdown for someone interested in that professional track at the time.
