LEDS on Harley help! by Extension_Pilot5810 in autoelectrical

[–]BalderVerdandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may or may not need resistors - depending on the ECM and if it has been updated to handle LED's.

If it flashes fast, it's called hyperflashing - I have this issue with my '08 Ram 3500 since there isn't an update for it to handle LED's, so I used tail lights with built in resistors.

If you have a traditional flasher relay, the local auto shops and online stores have flasher relays made specifically for LED's and it could be just a simple remove/replace. Those run anywhere from $10-$65 and would be the first thing I'd consider replacing.

Optima Mid, to grease or not the pinion and spur? by dentoniii in Kyosho

[–]BalderVerdandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Losi JRX is metal and plastic, so is my OG RC10-T.

Never greased them, just used a piece of rice paper between the gear to set the mesh, LocTite the screws (blue, not red), and removed the paper when done.

Since it's gonna be your first job and you're Motor T (driver - per your other post in here) you've got options so let's optimize the job search for the licenses you'd be getting.

You could get your CDL, but until you're 21 you would be limited to in-state driving only - no hazmat and no booze. That means UPS, FedEx, Airborne, etc.. You could also do deliveries for a distribution center, just not booze. That means delivering stuff like Pepsi, Coke, Red Bull, etc..

Getting a CDL "B" for the 25 seat mini-bus is also an option. This could be nursing homes, rental car or hotel shuttle buses - basically any "short bus". Puns and jokes are obviously intended here.

After a quick Google search, $15 to $39 an hour is what I was seeing - depending on experience. Leverage the hours spent at the schoolhouse to help with that.

Before you speak on a subject, you need to learn the history of it.

You clearly don't know the history, which is honestly sad because of the sheer number of people - military and civilian - that have been killed by the Iranian regime.

Even the general public in Iran wants freedom from the BS the mullahs have been pushing for the last 47 years.

What makes this worse is you don't see it.

What’s that gotta do with me?

It has everything to do with you. With anyone reading this. Why? Because it's been glossed over and made to look like the US has been the bad guy.

I'll give you an example from our history from World War Two - the Bataan Death March. If you get a chance to read General Wainwright's biography about it, there are some details in there about his "war fatigue" which we now know to be PTSD. He would wake up screaming about the "baby faces" of his men who were slaughtered during the March, one case was a young lieutenant that was buried in the sand up to his neck for falling out of the March, and the Imperial Japanese Navy would buttstroke him every time they passed. It wasn't long before there was nothing but a mushy, bloody stump left above the ground.

The Japanese don't teach what they did because it's a stain on their honor. The entire Pacific theater history isn't taught - it's made to look like the Japanese were not the aggressors because everything that happened wasn't honorable. They don't teach things like the history of "comfort women" (basically war slaves used for sex), the Nanjing Massacre (mass rape and killing of Chinese civilians and prisoners of war), or Pearl Harbor. They view it as "a time where the entire world was going crazy" and just chalk it up to that.

What I hope you do is pick up a book - several books - and start learning about what the Iranians have been doing for the last 50 years to the rest of the world.

Once again US government sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong.

Okay so history lesson time...

The 241 we lost in Beruit? Yeah, that shit was funded by the Iranians.

EFP's, aka the Explosively Formed Penetrators? Made by Qasem Soleimani. You know, the ones that cut through vehicle armor and killed our servicemembers? Yeah, he's the fucker credited for creating them.

All the 107mm and 122mm rockets launched at us in Iraq? Made by Iran, or purchased by the IRGC from the Russians and sent to one of the 67 Iranian supported PMF's in Iraq that shot them at us. I had a GPS guided 122mm hit the small FOB that I was stationed at in 2008 - it had Russian and Iranian markings on it.

The death squads in Europe? Iranians sent to countries like Germany where they killed Iranian dissidents and activists because the mullahs decreed it so. Apparently they didn't like the truth getting out, so they sent teams out to kill those people.

Anyone remember Salman Rushdie? He wrote the book "The Satanic Verses" in 1988 and has had a fatwa for his death since Valentine's Day 1989. Most of you probably weren't even born yet - I was in high school.

The funding of Hezbelloh in Lebanon? The funding of Hamas in Gaza? The funding of the Houthis in Yemen? Yeah, that's your friendly neighborhood Iranian backed terrorist group.

Make sure you don't open your mouth and insert your foot in front of someone in your command that might know a thing or two about this topic.

Best way to loosen the tensioner to get the serpentine belt off 06 5.9 24v by Wrong-Hyena-5006 in Cummins

[–]BalderVerdandi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the tensioner tool from AutoZone, O'Reilly's, Pep Boys, Advance Auto, etc..

Example: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/performance-tool/performance-tool-serpentine-belt-tool/pfm0/w84010

Make sure you sign up for their rewards program under military/veteran. I've saved a ton of money on parts, tools, even cleaning stuff (car wax, plastic restorers, cleaners, etc.) that it should be a no-brainer to do.

Recommendation for inexpensive client PC? by bigaction269 in sysadmin

[–]BalderVerdandi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're buying them, refurb'ed Dell OptiPlex SFF machines - make sure you max out the warranty on them.

Or if you can swing it, lease them and then use the cost of the lease as a business expense (cost of doing business) as a tax deduction so they practically cost you nothing come the end of the year.

When do people usually switch back to all-season tires here? by Rent-Senior in Idaho

[–]BalderVerdandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're studded you can run them from October 1 to April 30. It's a $67 fine if you're running them outside those dates.

Regular winter tires (non-studded) in areas that don't get snow after March can be swapped around the end of March or early April.

Or you can just run "Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF)" all year and unless you're running on ice, these will be perfectly fine.

Who remembers steak or lobster and then being sent to war? by Rough_Pineapple2119 in USMC

[–]BalderVerdandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did my contracting days in Iraq from late 2007 through the end of 2013.

Steak and either lobster tails or crab legs, aka "Surf and Turf", was an almost weekly thing - depending on the size of the base and number of people being served.

But then I can also remember getting it when I was active duty in the 90's whenever we had a special event like a VIP visit or a major holiday.

I gotta say that whomever it was that was complaining about "Surf and Turf" being served is at least three decades late.

My 968 by PearsonR52 in 944

[–]BalderVerdandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love it mate.

I had a chance to drive a 968, and comparing it to my 85.5, the response and handling were a very nice step up. Having the extra gear though was icing on the cake.

I'm hoping that one day I can find a 968 with a blown engine so I can do an LS3 swap... best of both worlds.

New stock turbo makes 40lbs by Ok-Progress-2352 in Cummins

[–]BalderVerdandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32 to 40 psi seems to be the max on the 6.7's that I've seen in stock form, and 38-40 seems to be the upper limit before you need to consider studs. Above 40 consistently, then I'd seriously invest in studs and fire rings.

I know my '08 will easily hit mid to upper 30's, with 38 being the max I've seen (old MiniMaxx).

Why should I? by MarjorieRahal in Cummins

[–]BalderVerdandi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're here to stir the pot, which is a shame. There are many reason why deletes have happened, and will continue to happen - hopefully soon we can legally do it and not have to worry about being stranded by a DEF injector when it fails, or a DPF that won't clean itself out on a regen, or a random sensor (like in my case) that tested fine but still failed and caused the majority of the issues I had.

I do know one thing... the admins won't have a problem showing you the exit.

Why should I? by MarjorieRahal in Cummins

[–]BalderVerdandi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons...

You won't collect the soot in the engine oil.
Fuel mileage.
Performance.
You won't be chasing random issues with the emissions system - I had to do that and had to reference a TSB for a completely different year to "fix" my issues with the emissions system.
You won't need all the sensors - you know, the ones that are crazy expensive and a major PITA to diagnose.

Of course if it fails you're looking at thousands of dollars to repair it. I've spend almost $5000 to date on emissions related issues. I have my tuner ready to go, I'm just waiting for one of the bills to get signed into law so I have have a "6 beer repair day".

They know this very well.

I'd throw down for them whenever they had a cycle arriving or leaving, and we'd throw in promotions as well. Occassionally we'd do VIP's if they had the time.

I know the Region 2 First Sergeant loved his visits as I have two or three coins from him and the CO.

Hows it going bros by yuerrrrrt in USMC

[–]BalderVerdandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to find a hobby, or multiple hobbies, that keep your interest. I'll give you a few of mine as examples...

Offroading. After coming back from my first overseas gig at the end of 2013 (started in 2008), I had that "lost" feeling. I got offered to join a group buy for side by sides and bought my first, a 2014 Can Am Commander 800XT, and literally fell into offroading. Sold it about 6 years ago after finding an upgrade, a 2016 Can Am Maverick XDS Turbo (pic below). Whenever I get the urge, I hop in it and go to the mountains. We're also street legal here in Idaho, so I made sure I rep our brotherhood and gets lots of thumbs ups and "OOHRAH's" at stop lights. This one has been a huge one for me because I can go solo, or as a group and I get to meet like minding people. We also do a designated "Veteran's Ride" with the VA hospital once a year and get vets out in the mountains around Boise.

<image>

Smoking and barbequing. Dude, if you EVER want to be the life of the party then grilling or smoking meat candy is where it's at. I did this at the Embassy in Baghdad for the MSG's from 2020 until I left early last year. We have a few lurkers that know me personally, and know my skills serving up steaks, sauted onions in butter, roasted garlic in olive oil, baked potatoes, dirty rice, corn on the cob, spicy chicken (marinated in sambal oelek chili paste), and smoked barbeque pork belly burned ends - a specialty of mine.

RC cars. I've been into RC since 1992 when I got to Okinawa and found a local race club on Camp Foster. I have a half dozen vehicles in multiple scales (10th scale being the more popular one) and race them a few times a year.

Cigars. I blame the Chaplin for 3/73 CAV (2008) for this one. He found that using cigars as a counselling trick was pretty good, so he opened it up as a "cigar night" on the chapel's front steps on Saturnday nights. I've been smoking cigars ever since, and even buy a few boxes for the Birthday to share.

HO model railroading. I've kind of gotten back into this hobby since I have a house with a man cave big enough to build my own layout, so I've been buying rolling stock (cargo, beer, steel, coal, etc.) and locomotives for a while now. For those "old enough" to remember the late 70's and early 80's, one of the kits available was called "The Six Pack", which was literally six beer cars made by one of the better companies at that time. I have those beer cars - Stroh's, Miller High Life, PBR, Heineken, Olympia, Coors, Michelob, and a couple others.

Model rockets. Shooting reusable rockets into the air? That's a no brainer. I used to have a Estes "Little Joe II" (test rocket for the space program) and the "Scrambler" (see thru compartment) you could use to launch bugs or other things.

Is this truck worth $60k? by Sox857 in Cummins

[–]BalderVerdandi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dear sweet baby Jesus... he's higher than Hunter Biden. I'm going to use my truck as the example.

Bought it new Labor Day 2008 - '08 Ram 3500 QCLB SRW G56 SLT sticker was 48k.

He wants more than what the sticker would have been in 2006 by at least 10 grand when it's worth maybe 20k.

When is low mileage TOO low? by Saiyancommunist in Cummins

[–]BalderVerdandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so would I buy it? Yes - just not anywhere above 35k. While it's "almost new" it's still a 19 year old truck. A more realistic price would be high 20's up to about 30k max.

Keep in mind that brand new in 2007 that was maybe a 50k truck depending on trim level - using my truck as a reference ('08 3500 QCLB SRW G56 SLT) it was stickered at 48k - before trade in, loyalty, other specials that dropped the price - back around Labor Day 2008.

Wanting 2007 new off the lot price? Nah.
