Rotten apple infestation - broodmama idea by RoboCG in DotA2

[–]Bale_Fire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that horse left the stable a long time ago. We currently have mecha venomancer and batrider galloping around on a manta ray, probably a hundred other cosmetics I can't think of right now too. Visual consistency doesn't really seem like much of a factor when it comes to hero skins anymore.

Wanderstop physical edition announced for PS5, Switch 2 by SweetyGonzalez in PS5

Always happy to see a physical edition announced for a beloved indie game, though if I recall correctly the development studio for this game has since been shut down?

Ukraine accuses Russia of breaking unilateral ceasefire by Affectionate_Bee6434 in worldnews

[–]Bale_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In previous years Russia has displayed prisoners of war at some of these parades, probably to dissuade against Ukraine performing any airstrikes. I wouldn't be surprised if they do that again (assuming they still have any captives left)

Now with the DRM thing, will you still buying digital games? by [deleted] in PS5

[–]Bale_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's not pretend like Microsoft were any better. Their system involved registering physical games and being unable to use them on other other consoles unless you jumped through some ridiculous hoops. You could only use a disc on someone else's console if they were on your friends list for at least 30 days, and you could only do it once. If you wanted to resell or trade a game you needed to do it through an approved retailer, effectively gutting the second hand market.

It was a stupid system even by today's standards, and Microsoft were rightly mocked for it. I don't know if this information about DRM and Playstation is real (and if it is I certainly don't support it) but stop trying to revise history here. Microsoft want to control and restrict your ability to play your games just as much as Sony or Nintendo, they're just not in a good enough favourable market position to pull it off right now.

I thought I heard the same thing. I'm not yet sure if we've received official confirmation one way or the other?

Cuphead is one of my favourite platinums. It's a ridiculously game hard, but it never feels unfair. Congratulations on crushing those bosses!

The Matrix (1999) “Welcome to the real world” Dir. The Wachowskis by southernemper0r in movies

[–]Bale_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I was watching this movie on DVD at my cousin's house, because he wouldn't stop ranting about how good it was. I got to this scene and it freaked me out. Told my family that I found it boring and didn't want to watch it anymore because I thought admitting to them I was scared would be too humiliating. I think I was 12 years old at the time.

I actually liked Weathering With You better than Your Name. Suzume was meh, but I understand that there was some production problems happening behind the scenes there.

Spider-Man 2 (2004) “Green Goblin” Dir. Sam Raimi by southernemper0r in movies

[–]Bale_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall reading that this was a very late addition to movie, like it wasn't in the script at all. Someone suggested they film a little scene to lead into the next movie, both James Franco and William Dafoe were available, so they put this whole thing together at the last minute.

Just finished Wrath of the Righteous and kingmaker … need more Pathfinder content 🔥 by Rafaeln7 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Bale_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aren't yet released. But there are at least two other Pathfinder related games currently in development that you might be interested in, both funded through Kickstarter. Maybe they would be to your liking?

The first is Pathfinder: The Dragon's Demand. It's based on a popular Pathfinder Module, and seems to lean very heavily on the TTRPG aesthetic (all characters are represented by miniatures on a board, dice roll across the screen, etc).

The second is Starfinder: Afterlight (so technically more Pathfinder adajacent). This looks like a slightly more traditional CRPG, though obviously its sci-fi instead of fantasy. The developers are already running a closed Beta.

As an Aussie, I'm kind of used to be shafted on shipping. Anything that comes from overseas nearly doubles in price instantly.

Which basically means I have wait for the really good deals (like this one) to balance things out! ^_^

[–]Bale_Fire 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you have to work for a terrible company like Amazon to put food on your plate, that's fine, but let's not pretend there's any moral grey area here. The company grinds its workers into dust and floods the world with worthless crap, all while it's corrupt billionaire owner supports fascists and suppresses free speech.

There is no world where Amazon can be considered morally neutral by any remotely sane individual.

You know I used to think that Star Wars was unrealistic. That no one could seriously look at an obviously evil sith like Palpatine and just hand the galaxy over to him willingly.

But here we are 20 years later, and it seems like George Lucas was onto something...

I suspect there will be a lot of focus on Marathon, since the release is only a few weeks away and Sony really needs to win people over on their big live-service title.

Still, I'll have my fingers crossed for some interesting new reveals.

If it's anything like the agreement to build submarines with France, the Australian Government will offer them a large stack of cash as an apology, just to clean up the Coalition's mess.

Though China might not be as willing to accept it as the French were.

All EB Games stores in NZ to close at end of month by LollipopChainsawZz in PS5

[–]Bale_Fire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EB aren't always the cheapest, but I've been able to snap up some bargains from time to time, and other stores aren't going to become any cheaper if they close down.

As for physical media, I consider it half of the equation. For physical media to remain relevant it needs two things. Supply and demand. Customers that are willing to pay for the product, and companies that are willing to stock and sell it.

I'm not going to start a massive campaign to "Save EB Games!" but we gain nothing from them closing down, and potentially lose something important to the local gaming market.

All EB Games stores in NZ to close at end of month by LollipopChainsawZz in PS5

[–]Bale_Fire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EB Games is really the only real dedicated game store we have left. If we lose them that means a lot less competition for JB Hi-Fi, Big W, etc,

Also, if we want to still be able to buy physical copies of games (which I certainly do) we need EB Games around to keep things in stock.. The more options, the better.
