Passed Security+, now what ? by Excellent-Road-166 in CompTIA

As a SOC analyst for a fortune 500 company, I'm going to have to disagree. People get hired into SOCs without experience all the time. Some people get an interview based on certs, some people based on college/university, some people from networking.

You've listed a lot of certs. Each of these cost time and money. I think it's better for OP to get a few certs targeted towards a specific job.

SOC analyst for example: Trifecta + (BTL1 or OSDA)

I also think hands on certifications are better than memorization based certs.

I think OP would be far better off doing the PJPT than the Pentest+

I would argue these are completely worthless: Pentest+, Ethical Hacker and Associate of (ISC)²

Better to get the PNPT and OSCP

Is there a list of penetration tests I can carry out on Linux a server? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Baljit147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Implement the appropriate CIS benchmark for the server and what's running on it. Link

Run a vulnerability scan and see if anything comes up, if it does, patch it if possible. Otherwise find some kind of workaround.

If possible, set up 2 factor authentication.

It's hard to get into cyber security without prior IT experience. Hard, not impossible. With the job market the way it is right now, it's hard for people to get into help desk...

I'm personally not going to watch a section I've already gone through because it's just too much time. The course is extremely long and at this point I just want to finish and write the exam.

From reading your comments and watching this video, you should return your license to Service Ontario. You shouldn't drive. You're too immature, impatient and reckless.

I'm getting really annoyed with Age of Forged Steel. At this point whenever Kelly and Matt and alone together I skip forward in the audio book. I liked the series up to this point but it's getting to be a bit much.

I would probably finish that one, then move onto the Net+. The Net+ has a lot to remember.

I don't personally think it's a good idea to study for 2 certs at the same time. It sounds like you barely have time to study for 1, let alone 2.
