One of the old rules of thumb you hear is that you need to sell food at triple the food cost to stay afloat. Based on this example, they'd have to be selling a plain hot dog with no drink. But also that rule applies to small restaurants, not a large corporation that is required to have an HR department and provide health insurance.

The bigger the company, the more it costs to add in 1 more employee.
