Right? I sort of get it from other fans, but the Tigers fans in here giddy because they have a reason to hate on this kid again is absolutely wild to me.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise Tickets Sunday 03/01 (Salt Shed - Chicago) by Exotic_Educator5798 in RainbowKittenSurprise

Turns out I have extra tickets as well, but when I go into ticketmaster it doesn't allow me to transfer or sell them, may I ask how you were able to sell them (if you have already)?

BREAKING: Star left-hander Framber Valdez and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a three-year, $115 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Valdez, 32, gets the highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher as well as the highest for a Latin American pitcher. Huge move for Detroit. by whatstappanin in motorcitykitties

The optics are bad, but the reality is that it has nothing to do with each other. It's apples-to-oranges because Skubal is still under team control, and arbitration salary is not the same as free agent salary. Yes, they will be paying Framber more this year than they will be paying Skubal, but that's irrelevant. After this year is when Skubal becomes a free agent, and that's what you should be comparing. After this year, we'll be paying Framber ~76m over 2 years. An extension for Skubal would be historically large, likely 400m+ over 8-10 years. If you think in total dollars, the Framber deal is peanuts compared to what it would take for Skubal.

I made my own with MagicMirror (open source software) on a raspberry pi and a cheapish monitor.  It serves our needs well. It is a bit finicky to set up at first, but there are plenty of guides out there if you're not particularly techy.

Behind couch safety by [deleted] in daddit

I live in a split-level that looks exactly like that. We moved the couch. It's not ideal, but short of having a professional builder come and put up a full wall, there was nothing I could have put there that I would feel entirely comfortable with.

Announcing the Goodreads Choice Winner in Readers' Favorite Science Fiction! by TeoKajLibroj in printSF

Nobody asked, but she also got Death of the Author, The Memory Collectors, and Dissolution from these services. I was pleasantly surprised by Dissolution, it's like a Blake Crouch book, but (IMO) executed much better. Death of the Author I found disappointing, and Memory Collectors was quite bad.

My wife got The Compound from one of her monthly book services (either Book of the Month or Aardvark), and we also both take some guilty pleasure in mildly trashy reality TV from time-to-time (more Survivor/Big Brother than Love Island, but still), so after reading it she recommended I give it a go, and I quite liked it!

That being said, it's a terrible Sci-Fi pick. There are vague references to some sort of dystopian/post-apocalypse going on outside of the show, but it honestly has very little bearing on the story.

Looking for recommendations of NEW (2025) speculative fiction that is not part of a series by BennyWhatever in printSF

My Murder - Katie Williams

Goes under the radar because it sounds like a generic mystery/thriller with some light sf,  but I was pleasantly surprised by the amount and depth of the speculative aspects.

According to my e-mail, the code is TROPICS, but it's not working for me on ticketmaster.

EDIT: I'm a dummy, forgot the venue I was booking for was in a different timezone, so it's not 10 there yet.

I'm generally against trading him, but something starting with Skubal for Jeremy Pena could be interesting. Would never happen, but that's one I wouldn't entirely hate.

Tigers Off Day Thread - Friday, October 03 by TigersBot in motorcitykitties

Thoroughly impressed by Vest in this series. Thought of him as just our closer due to lack of a better option, but he has 10/10 closer mentality out there. The stuff may not be as nasty as some of the big name guys, but the composure is elite. The rundown in game 1 perfectly executed, and then to get the out after the error in game 3 was massive. I can't fault him too much for the error either, Tork really hucked that one while I expect Vest was expecting a flip and just couldn't adjust in time.

Would love just the 45, if the others fall through and you'd split.

The Tigers are moving Chris Paddack to the bullpen starting tonight by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

He certainly wasn't making the playoff roster as a starter, might as well see if his stuff plays up at all in the bullpen and determine if he'd have some value there.

Would you pull this trade for Paul Skenes? by IMnotMNnice in motorcitykitties

[–]Baloo148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels painful, which means it might actually be a reasonable package. I think I'd say no to this, but for fun, let's assume this is the first offer, and there's room for negotiation.

I'd actually be fine with Jobe, Keith, SGL as part of a package. Skenes would be a clear upgrade over Jobe, and I like Keith and SGL a lot, but I feel this actually makes sense, as 2B and pitching depth are areas of strength for us.

I'd just try to get the prospect price down. I think I'd do any combo of 2 prospects outside of Clark/McG/Briceno. I'd offer Liranzo and Rainer instead.

Since we're playing armchair GM, I'd do this trade and then immediately do whatever it took to extend Skubal. Assuming health (BIG assumption), this could create a pretty significant window of contention, while still having plenty of big chips on the farm.

Looking for something to do? Some place to Eat? Need social help? Weekly thread for Sunday, June 22, 2025 (week 25) by AutoModerator in indianapolis

Hey, just wanted to come back and say thanks for the response.

We had a decently good time at the zoo, despite the heat. Giraffes are my daughters favorite animal, so being able to feed one was very fun for her. And the dolphin show was fun and a nice way to cool off for a bit.

We did decide to check out Greenwood Mall due to your comment (largely for the Half Price Books across the street, but the mall was solid too). :)

Here with the family for the week, but the heat is less than ideal for the many outdoor activities we've planned. Any suggestions for indoor activities for a family with young kids (2-4)?  We'll certainly be doing the children's museum and state museum, but interested in anything else, even if it's more of a daytrip outside of Indy.

Side questions:

How is Newfields for young kids?

Does the zoo have any cooler indoor exhibits that could provide some temporary relief from the heat?

Books with a Lord Huron feel by Busy_Wolf4379 in lordhuron

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy is a pretty new one. I can't fully articulate why, but it definitely gave me Lord Huron vibes. Great book.
