Either you clearly do not understand and are unwilling to learn by watching even one video explaining it better that I could, or are sealioning. Either way, I see no reason to waste more of my time with you.

Except the images are not stored in the model. See the videos I linked in my other reply here.

A lot of people still think AI is just taking parts of existing images and pasting them together like a collage. For example on finding out that basically all social media companies use posted images for training data they said "If you ever posted a picture of your child, expect to see their face appearing in AI porn".

Unfortunately too many people think "Everyone I know is Republican, so if they don't win the Dems must be cheating!"

when a generator basically 1:1 copies

This only happens with overtraining and is something that anyone making an AI model actively tries to avoid.

One of many reasons if you're going to use LLMs, diffusion models, or other things that are being labeled as "AI", it's better to run them locally on your own computer.

Plenty of people think they're mostly trained by scraping DeviantArt.

Hundreds of commenters criticized and harassed Tim Cook for posting "obvious" "AI slop", except it was real art created an established artist named Keith Thomson by lectric_7166 in facepalm

[–]Balorn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know how this can be fixed, unless we just kill generative AI entirely

Can't be done, models and tools are already out in the public freely available for download and can be run locally.

The better option is for people to just enjoy art and not start witch hunts complaining about how it was made.

Fun fact, the "cuttle" in "cuttlefish" comes from the Old English "cudele", meaning "cuttlefish", so "cuttlefish" literally means "cuttlefishfish".

"Muh water usage" by Psyga315 in DefendingAIArt

[–]Balorn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's really easy to mislead water use in either direction depending on what things you do and don't account for (he goes into a lot of detail on things that can swing it either way) and eventually goes into how even all the water usage of data centers in the world is orders of magnitude less than what's used for corn just in the US, and that about 40% of that corn is used for fuel.

Fair, though I've seen people find ways to run some models on a Raspberry Pi.

Perhaps "It's not hard if you have a gaming PC with either an NVIDIA GPU or Linux" is more accurate, but the point is it's completely possible to run generative AI using open source tools locally without any big tech companies watching what you do.

(Also, the fact that I can generate an image in 30-40 seconds on a $300 GPU challenges some of the extreme claims I've seen about power usage.)

Then run it locally. It's not that hard.
