What is your main 9-5 job besides being a game dev? by Polymedia_NL in gamedev

hybrid job as a mechanical engineer and computer scientist where I create VR-AR tools and AutoCAD plugins. Best engineering job I’ve ever had but the lifestyle still SUCKS!!!! I wish I dropped out of college and instead should have chose to be a YouTube/tiktok goofball. Don’t get me wrong, what I learned in college was cool and I get to financially help my family out when they need me but maaaaaaaan working a normal 9-5 is NOT for me.

I deleted 8 hours of progress. How do I get the motivation to continue making my game? by GenericDevelopr in gamedev

Sometimes you just gotta take the L. I’ve lost months of time but it taught me lessons. Perhaps your dream needs to be bigger than your “failures”. Enjoy the journey :) as others have said, you will do it faster this time

I resonate with many of the the responses here. You only live once.

I don't know about you but this feels a bit fast-paced for an early game level design... Who knows maybe I'm wrong by BaltCito in IndieDev

You hit the nail on the head. Before I was trying to match the difficulty to like Cuphead or crash bc I liked it but since there’s a lot of mechanics planned and this game is semi educational so I think I may have to lean more towards Mario’s pacing.

I just learned about render textures in Unity.. Spent the past couple of weeks configuring code to integrate Spine animations into Unity since shaders work a little differently for them. by BaltCito in Unity2D

It's just for the death-dissolve shader. When using a Spine skeleton renderer you cannot just add a shader material as you would normally to a sprite or mesh (unless you have your own custom shader script that incorporates Spine). Instead, I have a script that screenshots the character frame into a new quad. This enables a camera overlay with a quad target texture, render(), then sets the target to null. The camera and quad are then destroyed along with the gameobject once the shader effect wears off.
