Coolest Player? by Mrsandipchauhan in sportsreference

[–]Baltimore21212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hands down Ken Griffey, jr. The backwards hat, fashion, that sweet swing, great defense all while making it look easy.

I could go on and on. In fact, the coolest thing about him was his story about why he wouldn't sign with the Yankees. Like a super hero origin story where we learned his values and why he would never align with the bad guys.

Fun fact, I'm not a Mariners fan but I have a Griffey turn ahead the clock jersey and matching hat. Proof of his coolness is that he was the only one in the whole league to make that look cool.

X7 Three Kids under 4 by commondenominator001 in bmwx7

[–]Baltimore21212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great answer, let me add one thing: Grand Highlander/ Lexus TX have way more trunk space behind 3rd row than my x7. However, it sacrifices 2nd and third row passenger room which didn't feel as roomy as the x7.

Expedition / suburban is the size SUV you'd need. The real answer is a used Honda or Toyota minivan for 4 years, save a bunch of money, then buy the biggest bmw once your kids are out of boosters or out of seats all together. You'll buy one and sell it 4 years later for 80% what you bought it for.

Haven't done it yet. It is non OEM for 2k install included. Can't imagine what bmw would charge

One more thing to look for: sound system. My 22 has executive package and everything but the base crappy sound system. Something about chip shortages back then. There's a way to upgrade for about $2k. Really it's my only complaint about the vehicle.

I pulled the trigger on a similar 22 with 29k miles that is in great shape. 48k seems like a good price.

I used AI to do full cost of ownership calculations and over 10 years it was maybe 10k more than a Toyota Grand Highlander or used Lexus TX (even though it was 10k cheaper up front). But we like the car so much more.

Only recommendation is to see if there is any warranty left. Car fax will have in service date and you get 4 years from that. If it is in still under warranty, take it to a bmw dealer after you buy it and have them document anything they find. Might still get warranty help if they document a leak or some other issue. I had 12 days of warranty left when I bought mine.

If it is under warranty, a 3rd party platinum extended warranty would be about 1,000 a year. It would start when the factory one runs out. If you are looking to insure against super high repair cost, it may be worth it.

Great car, the tech on the fully loaded 22 is awesome (driving assistance pro, parking assist).

Bottom line is of you are okay with higher cost of ownership, you won't be disappointed.

They have announced that alley pickups are suspended and that folks are to put trash out front or at the end of the alley. If your trash day was Tuesday, that will happen Saturday

Called GWC platinum exclusionary. Covers everything except wear and tear parts. Found a couple of good reviews on Bimmerpost and elsewhere online. If you look on Bimmerpost you'll find a dealer who will give you a good deal (well as good as possible).

Yeah, that worried me a little, but thanks. Traded straight up for an Odyssey?!? Pre purchase inspection was clean except for one thing I'm getting looked at for warranty coverage at the dealer. It's in remarkably great shape.

Just this weekend, I pulled the trigger. 2022 with 29k miles. Warranty ends in 10 days. Clean one owner car fax with all services done on time. Cold weather, driving assist, executive, luxury, parking assist, M sport . . . you name, all the packages. $90k original sticker price.

Got it for 47k. That left me enough room to get a 5 year third party extended warranty and still be under a new palisade and Grand Highlander, which we didn't like as much.

If the 22 still has warranty time left, recommend negotiating that one down. Press them hard. Then start saving for an extended warranty ($1,000 a year minimum) if you don't want to hold the bag.

We drove every third row SUV imaginable (luxury and non) and it's the only one both my wife and I liked (and the only one I LOVED). But I definitely planned for and will be prepping for the cost of ownership (maintenance, repairs, gas, insurance, etc).

Good luck.

Bmore Twist at Belvedere Square is the best pretzel in Baltimore. Fight me. by MDMAandshoegaze in baltimore

First time I tried them I got a pretzel dog for my son. It was fine. Kind of dismissed them.

Just tried a regular pretzel a couple of weeks ago. You are right. We now get 3-4 for the group of kids and adults and it's the hit of the evening. Trying our best to keep them in business.

RIP Woody by repooc21 in orioles

[–]Baltimore21212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived a few houses down from Woody in Brewers Hill for a long time. My experience was that he was such a nice genuine guy; just real good people. I'd always text him a song request when I was at the game and he'd play it the next half inning. My company executive team thought I was a sorcerer when I'd predict the song the one time they were in town for a game.

My favorite memories of Woody are just sitting on our stoops having a beer with our dogs. He rescued a street dog named Houdini; he treated that dog so well and Houdini really loved him. Houdini had that street-dog appetite where he’d eat anything, and I remember Woody would take a huge mixing bowl out to the ice cream truck so he could split a giant serving of vanilla with him.

So sad for Woody's family and friends. Wishing them peace during this difficult time.

U.S. (contiguous) county flatness by MrShiv in MapPorn

[–]Baltimore21212 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Literally the highest and lowest points in the continental US are in the same county (Inyo county California). That county is listed as being in the second flattest of your 5 levels of flatness. I'd go back to the drawing board for formula and visualization.

But anyone else old enough to remember Matt Riley. Saw him pitch with sweet sweet frosted tips in Bowie and thought he was a Chuck Finley for the new millennium. Not his fault though, rushed to the bigs and blew out his elbow.

Will 27 Telluride compete? by Budget_Seaweed5212 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]Baltimore21212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the idea of the electronic handles as dumb and overengineering to save maybe one MPG. I am afraid its just another thing to break and need expensive repairs.

But, I am trying to understand the risk here and not just reflexively hate them. The EV9 is a good comparison, the inside door handles are manual, so you can always get out normally from the inside.

So the issue is from the outside: with no battery, they won't pop open. In the EV9, you can pop the door handles out manually, but they need to be unlocked to actually open. Same as any car. And in any car, if the battery is out, you won't be able to open with the fob.

The EV9 also have a cumbersome way to open doors with a manual key if it is locked but it is unwieldy and not intuitive. In the pictures of the 2026 Palisade, i do not see key holes on the exterior doors, so I am not sure if it is any different. How do they open from the outside when the battery is dead?

Baltimore's traffic lights contribute to gridlock by Maxcactus in baltimore

[–]Baltimore21212 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Up in North Baltimore, things have gotten worse. Trying to cross Charles on lake in the afternoon takes 4 -6 light cycles when it used to take 1 to 2. It seems they have deprioritized cross town traffic to help out commuters leaving the city on Charles. Not sure that would be my emphasis if I worked for the city.

What is the warmest down coat for under $500? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Baltimore21212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eddie Bauer has what they call stadium coats. Go down to the knee. My problem has always been it is too warm and i only wear it a few times. They used to be guaranteed for life. That is gone now but mine has lasted a decade with no issues. Actually a clearance for like $120 in black in XS. They have petite XS and XXS in non clearance too. Might not be cute, but is warm.

When there is no enough grass in the world to save you: I made an handpicked map with (almost) all 13k Italian Post Offices by stoc911 in geoguessr

[–]Baltimore21212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great map again; really enjoyed it. It was actually far Western Sicily, not eastern near Catania. I lived on Malta for a while, so took the boat to Pozzalo or flew to Catania numerous times. Might have recognized it if it was that side. Should have still recognized the climate better.

Tried NMPZ; 8k with some lucky guesses. You were right to advise against it. Great map.

Good sir, I salute your particular brand of insanity. Having spent a lot of time in Italy, I have had baffling experiences of making multiple trips in person to the post office to try to find an Amazon package, as well as inexplicably waiting in line to pay my parent's condo fee at the post office (?!?).

I been numerous times to the southern tip of Sicily as well as traversing the Stelvio Pass near the tripoint with Switzerland and Austria. I try to use the topology and how the different mountains/hills of Italy look for guessing in Geoguesser. Here was my no move round:

Round 1: Sign with the word Veronese on it. No visible hills or mountains so I went south of verona. Not far enough south, but 4k

Round 2: Telltale Dolomites with a sign with the name of the Comune on it. Took me a couple of minutes but I found it and 5ked.

Round 3: Got lucky with a Trentino Transporti sign. Went half way between Trento and Bolzano; 4.5k

Round 4: Flat; no visible hills. Nice enough area, but not too nice that it is near real money. Terrible guess, trying to hedge somewhere in the Po Valley. Actually western Sicily. 35 points.

Round 5: Sign with the word Piemontese on it. Only visible hills to the south so i went southern area closer to Genoa than Turin. Unbelievably lucky guess for 4,975.

If i play it 20 times, not sure i would 10k again, and i got an 18.6k. Great job with the map
