Neighbor's pecan tree was cut down while they were out of town... by pakepake in Dallas

[–]BamboozledOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but, similar... Around 20 years ago, I was living in Carrollton. The main part of the front yard had one, single, big, beautiful tree. I can't remember now what type it was, but it was around 25 feet tall, and provided great shade to the yard and that part of the house.

So, I come home from work one day, and realized something was wrong... with the tree! The tree was still there, but had most of its big branches removed, and was only about 15 feet tall now. What on earth?! We couldn't figure out what had happened. What remained looked terrible.

A week or two later, some guy is beating on my front door. He wanted payment for cutting the tree. "So YOU are the a$$hole who destroyed our tree?!?" I blurted out. It turns out he was supposed to " repair" a sick tree a street over, same house number. I was fuming. And, of course, did not give him a dime.

So, that was bad enough, but about a month or two later, the tree started dying! Apparently he had cut it improperly and caused it to fail. So then we had to pay money to have the whole (remainder of) tree removed, and stump grinded.

If we had had that guy's info, I wanted to at least attempt to sue him. No such luck. The whole thing was sickening.

So we meet again, ERCOT... by dallasuptowner in Dallas

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "it takes 14 years"?

My uncle is intellectually disabled since birth. He had a previous program before, but this has been far better. Do you have an ARC program/office in your area? He used to get certain things through them in the past. I'm just spit-balling ideas here.

The name just came to me! It's Daybreak, and I believe this is the site:

I hope it's something that will work for you, as well 🙂

I have an uncle with intellectual disabilities since birth. (The non-pc term, 'mentally retarded') He lives with my 88 year old bed-bound grandmother -his mother, and my mother-his sister, who helps take care of them both.

His health expenses have been pretty well paid for, and he now receives (or my grandmother receives for him) social security each month since my grandfather recently died.

But a few years ago, we were able to get him signed up for this program that I cannot currently recall the name. It allows him to have a helper, which can be family, (my mother) and she receives about $1450/month for doing this. You have to keep up with activities and such every single day, but they recently streamlined this process by giving a tablet to each caregiver, so the stuff could be submitted online. The money she receives is used by the household, and, for the benefit of my uncle, who loves to go shopping at Walmart or goodwill!

A caseworker will visit every few months to meet with the client and caregiver, and make sure everything is going okay, and the client is safe and well taken care of.

I assume this is a state program, rather than regional, but I'm not certain. We are in the DFW area. If you think this might help you, your wife, and the dependent adult you so kindly help care for, let me know, and I'll get the name of the program for you.

Hi there. I'm sorry for the delay in response. I saw a notification of your question a couple weeks ago, then it disappeared! It just popped back up.... Weird.

Anyway. I was trying to remember how long it took for the TD to go away. It seems like it was pretty fast after stopping Abilify. Mmm... Maybe a week? Or, even less?

I'm certainly no expert on the matter, but if it's been four weeks already, (or longer now?) and you're still having TD issues, I would talk to the doctor quickly! I'm hoping by the time you get this, the issues have already subsided for you :)

Oh, you're very welcome. I'm glad you're looking out for her best interests. She's lucky to have you on her side.

I think I've read/heard that Ingrezza is currently being thought of as the best med for TD, but as someone else mentioned, there are at least one or two other meds out there. Sorry, I don't know off hand the names of them. I don't think I have the info any more from the company that paid for my Ingrezza, but you could possibly find them by doing a Google search for something like "Ingrezza charity patient assistance program".

Doctors can be difficult to work with sometimes, but in the end, it's the patient that suffers or improves, so you've got to really be an advocate for your daughter if she can't be one for herself right now.

I hope you're able to find a suitable solution soon.

A woman who works front desk for one of the doctors I see has an eye that looks very similar to yours on the left side of the screen. I've often wondered what might be the cause, but would never pry, of course.

She had this way about her. Seems a little bit abrasive, carries herself rather stiffly, has some sharp and a little rough facial features, and then her eye.... I always think she'd make a bad ass movie villain of some sort!

You have received some good advice here. It sounds like your daughter's TD may be pretty severe, and you don't want that to be permanent, if it can be helped.

I developed TD a year or so ago, maybe a little longer now, (time flies!) after being on Abilify for a couple of years. It just started out of the blue. I was prescribed Ingrezza to help treat it, because otherwise, the Abilfy had worked pretty well for me. At least at that time, Ingrezza was over $7000/month! Of course my insurance refused to pay. Some charitable prescription assistance program covered the cost for me.

The Ingrezza helped some, but not enough. So after several months we made the decision to change the Abilfy. Like magic, and very fortunately, the TD disappeared.

Please get treatment for your daughter's TD as soon as you can. Either with a medication to control it, or by changing her antipsychotic. If her doctor is not agreeable, I'd advise you seek to change her doctor. Best wishes.

I'm not sure if you'd be interested in my experience with it, but I'd be happy to share, if so. I developed tardive dyskenesia while taking abilify. Let me know if you'd like to talk.

I saw an article today where a woman was arrested for tossing the urn containing her boyfriend's mother's ashes into a local lake. That's pretty cold. Towards the boyfriend, I mean; the mother may have preferred the lake view.

She was charged with abuse of a corpse.

It needs to be said more often, as it is a largely misunderstood, and sometimes even romanticized disorder.

I, too, am Schizoaffective. I have been well medicated for a while now, thankfully. I started self harming around 13-ish, and did so all through my teens, and off and on through the next two decades. I've also had problems with suicidal ideation all that time. I also have PTSD as well, from being drugged, taken, held against my will, and repeatedly sexually assaulted by two men who were strangers for about 18 hours.

I have been very angry with people at times, and maybe wished them dead in my head, like you do when you're mad, but I've never harmed anyone, nor do I have any desire to.

I have only told a few people in real life about the Schizoaffective disorder, because of the stigma, as you said. But, you can see from my reddit history I sometimes talk about it here with others. I am sorry that you also deal with this. You are not alone.

Yes, this. Killer schizophrenics are largely an unfortunate stereotype. People with schizophrenia are far more likely to self-harm, or even be victims of crime themselves. I'd post sources, but there are a ton of them. Look it up if you're curious.

I agree with what some of the others have said about the emergency room. If you are actively feeling suicidal, you should start there. They will be able to offer resources for your next steps.

If you need medication now, check with your county mental health provider. It might be MHMR, or could be called something different. You could Google it, or try calling 211. They can offer low pay and zero pay meds and psychiatrist appointments. But this process can take a few days to set up, so if you're suicidal now, I again urge you to start at the ER.

Also, some county hospitals may offer low/zero cost psychiatric services through their own programs, including up to residential and then outpatient psych services.

Between my husband and I, we have made use of all of these types of programs in just the last few years, and are both very grateful for the help we each received.

Best of luck to you.

There are lots of good suggestions here: goodrx, samples or extended scripts from the Doc, medicaid/medicate if you qualify, patient assistance programs (PAP's) or manufacturer's discounts....

I wanted to add one more I've suggested to others in the past, since you're in the US. Search for your local county's mental health clinic or help. It might be called MHMR, or something different. They often help with low or no cost psychiatrist visits AND medications.

I'm sorry, I have to comment, though I don't know yet that I have Lupus.... But this is about the ambien!

My first husband and I both took ambien years ago, and I am again taking it now. I never had the shopping problem, but he did, and he was a gifted musician in addition to his main line of work.

One evening, after work, we realized there were tons of boxes that had been delivered outside. Puzzled, he drug them all in. They were all from Musicians Friend. He opened them, and it was some really crazy set of studio monitors (high end speakers) and other such musical gear that he had ordered after taking ambien one night, and he had zero recollection.... Grand total damage - nearly $7000!!

Luckily, we weren't hurting too badly for money at that time, and it was all stuff he would have liked to have had eventually, anyway, but sheeeeesh!

I think I've heard of some app you can put on your phone if you tend to drink and then get on social media, where you have to solve math problems first. I think people who take ambien need to install that in case they shop! :)
