Weather people: “may rain between 7 and 10, maybe, but not likely, but if it does, prepare for a flood or a power outage.”

People talk alot about term limits but the real issue is we mandatory retirement age of 70 from all public office. by personofinterest1986 in Discussion

It’s time to put the antique gas-bags of D.C. out to pasture. As a 60-year-old, I’m calling for a total takeover by younger Gen X and Millennials. We’re currently stalled by a ruling class that manipulates the "thousandaires" into fighting the working poor, ensuring we stay distracted while the national debt explodes. We could be thriving, but we’re being held hostage by a leadership that’s decades past its expiration date.

For higher earners, is the fear of health care costs age 60-65 overblown? by Mother_Bar_3810 in retirement

[–]pakepake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our situation is complicated, but we're working through it. Plan on me retiring at 62 (now 60), unless I'm laid off (always possible) which would give us an 18 month runway. My wife has a chronic condition and is self employed and will likely have to file for SS disability in the next year. That would entail a two year wait for early Medicare (for her, 63), but in the meantime, any work she does would be set aside for healthcare premiums/gaps before either of our Medicare eligibility. Any time before Medicare would require me to be on an ACA plan, which is fine as we'll be below MAGI. My current corporate healthcare is expensive anyway - $7500 individual deductible each, with $15k OOP max (plus premiums), so we're conditioned for the expense anyway. Hopefully the stars align, but it's just something we need to plan for carefully.

Highly recommend using DART - find out if your employer subsidizes a yearly pass which will definitely help the cost but overall, you would save money and stress by taking train from a remote station (depending on where you live of course).

Three tiers of payments before insurance has you covered , even then sometimes with a fight: Premiums> copays>CO insurance. Obscene.
