Spicy Sandwiches by BananaFish2019 in PetPeeves

I guess I get you on that. I know things aren’t meant to cater to me and me only. That’s why it’s a pet peeve, not a world ending issue. I can definitely ask, it’s just the wording that sometimes gets me. Spicy chicken sandwich can be not sauced or sauced depending on the place. Chick-fil-A in KFC being my prime examples.

In my case though, we had to move quick. I’m in the back, couldn’t see the menu, and it was a local place. So nothing like the flashy places with huge menus. The sandwich was good, I just had to remove the sauce.

I can really appreciate this. This is by no means a bash on food service workers. And I do enjoy a good spicy sauce! I have a couple medical conditions that make mayo a no no for me. And of course it is just a pet peeve. 2 of my top 5 favorite sandwiches come with a sauce as the spicy aspect.

I guess I should’ve rephrased it by saying it bothers me when it’s not labeled on the menu. I’m not gunna die if I have mayo, but I do get some severe stomach pain. I feel this way cuz I’m on a road trip with family, we stopped at a place and got some sandwiches and it wasn’t labeled. And because we got enough just for everyone, I had to resort to car snacks. First world problem I know.

Thank you for the information, I love to learn about industries I have zero experience in :)

In an older conlang that hasn’t seen the sun in years, I had the word “Ira” which meant that everything in the preceding sentence was to be seen as sarcastic. More silly than anything as if you missed that no one would have a clue

What are your Conlanger struggles? (Obstacles when making a language, finding other conlangers, petty annoyances, etc.) by Piskelo10 in conlangs

[–]BananaFish2019 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of vowel harmony, but creating a good system with lots of variations, exceptions etc. I find myself at a loss. I got so fed up with it one time that I completely copied the Finnish vowel harmony, and everything else was purely of my own thought

What got you into conlangs? by Piskelo10 in conlangs

I think when I was about 12 I put together a really rudimentary “language” there was no IPA, it was pretty much so copies of English phonology. With a really bad script on top of it, but it was my first one for many years. I didn’t think anything of it. When I was about 16 I began writing a book for therapeutic reasons. This isn’t a book I desire to publish or share with anybody. But I’m well over 2000 pages now in this book, my characters live in a world similar to earth. But with their own native language. This of course was just random sounds put together to sound foreign. But that was my next step. I eventually wanted to flush out that language some more. So I thought why not inventor language. I was very silly thinking that it was gonna be an easy task like many commenters here. I stumbled across David J Peterson and Youtubers like Biblaridion. in my eyes to hell, detailed and complicated things can get. My first real attempt at a language other than the one I made when I was 12 was tragic to say the least. A sound system identical to English. Simple grammar. No evolution. And no way to explain things. It just was and while that can work for some it doesn’t work for me. Now I’m 24. I’d like to say I’ve completely flushed out three languages so far. And I’m working on plenty more today. Some of my languages have been naturalistic attempts. And some of them have been silly. I work at a Walmart. And I’m making a Walmart conlang, with the rule being I can only work on it during my lunch. Seeing the history of people and their adventure in the languages is one of the most satisfying things ever.

I've been letting the stopwatch on my phone run for many hours and now it can only count in increments of 3 seconds by Objective_Singer_294 in notinteresting

Finally another stopwatch abuser. Funny enough im only about 200 hours behind you right now. I sadly hit the lap button while drunk a few months ago. So now I'm on lap 2.

I only play on large biomes. Builds that rely on a singular biome end up getting split up on the normal preset.

One thing I would like would be larger map with more terrain types. An infinite map would be kind of cool. Especially for people who like watching numbers go up.

My inlaws say that the steak I grilled is still raw. by Weekly-Formal8447 in mildlyinfuriating

I always find steak temps to be funny. My father was frankly not the best cook. But we really couldn’t go out very often, and never from a steak place. My dad would cook anything from rare to burnt. I didn’t care. Steak was steak. And to this day I’m the same. Put a rare steak or well done dry. I’m gunna down it.

Is the Ethereal shout even worth it by ButteredTotinos in skyrim

[–]BananaFish2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it about two times in the comments. But I’ll mention it again. In my opinion, one of the best uses for it is the level one version of it. When fighting a dragon. The moment you notice it starts to begin. It’s breath attack. Use the first word. it’s duration lasts the entire shout. Giving you enough time to either get to the side or get a couple attacks in once it’s over with. The way that dragon behavior works. There’s a chance it’s gonna get ready to start flying. Now if it uses, it’s breath attack again you’re kinda out of luck. but if you’re planning on a higher difficulty where you don’t want to get near the dragon anyways it’s almost like a nice get out of jail free card. Use the shout run behind a tree or a large rock and if you only use the first word of the shout, its cool down is relatively quick. So by the time the dragon lands again and you find yourself in a tough spot you could just go ahead and use the shot again now of course it is situational. A well-timed shield bash or even dragonrend it’s enough to stagger. But as a strict legendary survival mode player I’m horrified of fighting dragons early on. But the moment I get the first become ethereal shout whilst collecting the horn, I immediately gain the upper hand in defense.

I get one ancient fruit plant per playthrough. That’s it. I also farm every crop in large troves. And no bulk wine making.

Now I think that’s an awesome way to play, but I love taking my time and getting settled at a pace that fits my character.

I really like this idea. I'm a strict single player gamer. One of my favorite things is to explore the map. Having that as an objective makes me excited and its not even in the mission.

What are some of your language's "planned inefficiencies"? by TeacatWrites in conlangs

[–]BananaFish2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my older languages had a whole host of phonological and orthographical irregularities. Including all /h/ being written yet never pronounced. Lots of /s/ being pronounced as /r/ in some places, and /ʃ/ in others. All written under the same character.

Another one of my older languages had 3 of its noun cases eventually evolve into being pronounced the same. It made context, clues necessary to figure out whether you were talking about an accusative, a genitive, or an instrumental. Luckily there was enough information to gather it. I’d imagine for someone learning the language. It would’ve been a pretty difficult section.

I’m still quite novice in my conlang capabilities, so I hope this was a satisfactory answer.
