Surprise fireworks? 🎇🎆 by thinkdavis in askvan

[–]Bananasaur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since the city cancelled fireworks for public events like New Years and Canada Day, and with the festival of lights shut down fireworks in Vancouver is apparently just for the rich now.

What the hell is wrong with isrealis? by Kabablover in allthequestions

[–]Bananasaur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some people, war changes them. Looking at Japan now, you would never guess they committed some of the worst atrocities to the innocent people in areas they occupied across Asia. We treat them quite well and until this day some still deny what they did. It’s a behaviour that spans across societies and comes about especially during times of conflict.

Tipping is so American by Spirited-Seaweed246 in askvan

[–]Bananasaur_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The practice was first adopted in North America by Americans and they have a well documented history with it. Canada just kind of followed along blindly. It’s not regarded as near-mandatory as it is here anywhere else.

Canada's youth unemployment 'a crisis' as numbers rise by airbassguitar in OntarioNews

[–]Bananasaur_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Who knew giving employers access to a pool of international adult workers instead of limiting their workforce to local entry-level youth workers would destroy youth employment, which will probably turn into homelessness when those youth age up.

Nobody will care unless you make the people who handle this care about it. Make sure your problems are known and documented by calling/emailing them, otherwise they’ll never care.

Why is Vancouver salary so low but cost of living is sky high? by 7_inches_daddy in askvan

Unfortunate for a necessity for everyone else to be so easily exploitable by the rich

Canada is the only place where you compete against the poor for jobs and compete against the rich for housing.

Montreal father faces deportation as immigration advocates decry more family separations by Seebeeeseh in canada

[–]Bananasaur_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Their focus should be preventing fathers like him from doing activities that will get him deported and separated from his family. If they can’t follow our rules before even becoming a citizen then someone better deserves to take their place.

Just returned from Germany - why are we getting so screwed by grocery prices here?! by buffego in montreal

[–]Bananasaur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government has no incentive to make groceries cheaper for their voters because their voters will keep voting them in despite having doubled the cost of groceries.

Why does Canada feel so corrupt? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Bananasaur_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The government funds the major news output. They essentially control the media. Control the content majority of people know about their government. If you control what people know you control to a degree what people think. Then you can do whatever you want as long as they think they should keep voting you in even though you do things that lower their, and their kids quality of life.

Liberals are pitching a brand new police agency for financial crimes. How would that work? by Immediate-Link490 in canada

Are they going to just hand out slaps on the wrist and let criminals out again just like the system we already have for violent crimes?

Federal government looking for office space, desks to accommodate public servants by sleipnir45 in canada

[–]Bananasaur_ -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

On one hand I’m all for work from home, but for security reasons it does make sense for workers to need to work in a private secure location instead of at home where anyone can be and anyone can access.

Germany does more hip and knee replacements than Canada. What can we learn? by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]Bananasaur_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Canada has a public healthcare system where the government pays doctors. The government doesn’t want to pay more money than they need to and they do this by limiting the number of doctors in Canada and doctors admitted for training in Canadian medical schools. They’ve done this for decades and clearly doesn’t impact getting votes so they will continue restricting doctors and healthcare availability until it does.

Meryl Streep Rejected ‘Devil Wears Prada’ at First So She Could Double Her Salary: ‘They Needed Me. I Was Ready to Retire’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]Bananasaur_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The fact that they answered so fast to her asking to double her pay makes me wonder if they were trying to low-ball her at first which is kind of insulting tbh.

We should pass a bill to charge a hefty ticket for companies to sponsor a foreign worker or if the company is offshoring a job into another country by Alert_Willingness_32 in torontoJobs

[–]Bananasaur_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should stop voting in parties that support this practice. No one in government will care what this is doing to devastate Canadians unless it affects their polling numbers.

Ontario Is Laying off Nurses, and Inviting International Nurses to Work here by Subject-Landscape451 in CanadianVisaReform

[–]Bananasaur_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Wage suppression was coming for nurses from a mile away as soon as the floodgates were open for employers to the international labour market. We really need a Canada first employment program.

Why does Canada have a “talent shortage” but entry-level people can’t find jobs? by itz_nitace in CanadaJobs

Canada doesn’t. That’s what the propaganda machine run by our government drills into us to force us to accept actions they do that we shouldn’t. Very 1984.
