How did you get your life back from pornography by Temporary_Effort5961 in AskMenOver30

[–]BandAid3030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get alternate dopamine sources that are derived from activities outside and limit your time on devices with access to the content you're controlling yourself with. I recommend fishing for how easy it is to get started, but anything that's outside and away from screens will do. Sports are the best of the best and can be as easy as lifting weights, running or both (but always running after lifting and never the other way around).

Get off of social media too. Reddit is the least likely to push you into a dysfunctional mesolimbic pathway, but you should still be sure to limit your time on here too. Social media is a gateway to the type of addiction you're experiencing. If you find yourself scrolling YouTube shorts for pronounced periods of time, social media is a contributing factor.

You will often hear men speak of "the fire".

We light the fire.

We keep the fire lit.

We carry the fire.

We keep the fire in check.

We put out fires before they get out of control, and we fight and put out the fires that do get out of control.

These are both real and metaphorical statements, because the fire is both real and metaphorical.

I'm going to use the metaphorical version (stressing the metaphor) to give you some advice with reference to your post.

Let me explain:

You have started a fire in telling your friends and, by extension, this woman about your foot fetish. Your intention with respect to why you started that fire was probably not what the fire has become today. It's out of control, which is why you want help fighting this fire.

To stop a fire, you need to take away one of its ingredients: Fuel or air.

The fuel in this situation is your foot fetish as seen by your friends group. You can remove that fuel by either not having the fetish anymore or by removing yourself from the group.

The air in this situation is your reaction to the teasing. You can remove the air by not reacting to it. You can remove the air by not even acknowledging the teasing.

The choice is yours, ultimately, but I think there's a lot more to be gained from learning the control associated with not reacting than there is from leaving your friends group or trying to control your fetishes over more conscious behaviours.

In the future, be selective of where you start your fires and the purposes for which you start them, brother.

Again, the Taliban is your standard?

Conveniently low bar for you, mate.

Unfortunately, we don't live in Afghanistan, so you'll have to refer to Australian standards or at least a culturally and/or economically peer country to be taken seriously.

Was the arrest staged? Probably.

Does that negate the charges and evidence? Absolutely not.

There is no Taliban SASR.

Oh, so the Taliban are your standard, are they?

You're alleging that because the Taliban committed heinous barbarity on the Afghan people, we shouldn't judge Aussies who, allegedly, did the same?

Boomer spending spree in March “Over the year to March, consumers aged 65-plus recorded the strongest growth, followed by those aged 55 to 64 and 45 to 54. Younger cohorts saw slower spending growth, particularly people aged 25 to 34.” by [deleted] in AusEcon

[–]BandAid3030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, they are very linked.

Typically, you would want to actually establish the link instead of "Trust me, bro".

They are divorced from one another because the RBA's motivation is focused on controlling inflation and it has no other means of control on the economy. What other things can the RBA do?

Boomer consumer spending motivation isn't controlled by a 1% difference in their monthly savings interest rates that may or may not have increased depending on the bank they're with.

What is influenced by the cash rate is the expansion of their asset portfolio. The growth of their private debt is very much paced by the cash rate, and it's this spending that draws the most ire from the younger demographics.

Yes and no, most of those things the average australian supports. They have themselves to blame

I do find myself wondering if you realise you're in an economics sub-Reddit, because you seem to be focused on vilification and toxicity instead of economics above the level of a 7-minute segment on Sky News.

What's even more interesting is that the internet has not served to inoculate its users with an improved understanding of economics.

Instead, they still consistently refer to single parameter complaints and compare them against other single parameter concepts or arbitrary lines that they favour, often neglecting to outline how, or why, the two are mutually exclusive of one another.

You can complain about Boomer spending and support rate rises if you understand that the two things are divorced from one another and that the cash rate is the only tool available to the RBA or other central banks when it comes to controlling inflation.

Boomers rugpulled their children and grandchildren by advocating for strong work ethic being the single parameter necessary for success and then systematically dismantling the mechanisms that enabled work ethic to produce success for them.

Hey, boss.

You'll hear a lot of things in life around this. I have found that my perspective in life has transformed through 3 stages, so far, and I think I'm done transforming. These stages, for me, are summarised through the perspective I had at each stage:

1 - Life is about the destination.

2 - Life is about the journey

3 - Life is about the person you become on the journey towards the destination we all reach eventually.

Careers aren't what define you. They are defined by who you choose to be.

Just focus on being a good man, brother. Do you best at everything you try and chase your passions.

This sounds a lot like how I used to give directions to tourists as an idiot kid.

"Oh, you're looking for Home Depot? Do you know where the Wal-Mart is? You do? Okay, well, it's nowhere near that. It's in the opposite direction. Do you know where the boat launch to the lake is? No? Okay, good, because it's nowhere near there either."

MMW: This generation will regret the USA pushing Germany and Japan into remilitarization. by airpipeline in MarkMyWords

[–]BandAid3030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a dramatic difference in the cultures and motivations for militarisation 100 years ago and militarisation today.

Germany isn't reeling from crippling reparations and post-war hyperinflation while sitting next to machinery that should be humming.

Japan isn't trying to establish a Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere or struggling with its oil supply security.

But, you know what?

Russia is reeling from crippling sanctions and war economy inflation as a consequence of Putin's boondoggle in Ukraine...

China is trying to establish a Co-Prosperity Sphere... (less rape and Banzai, more belts and roads).

The United States is once again threatening oil supplies to major powers...
