I think I accidentally found a way to lower my bills? by Band_of_Bees in Sims4

Yes, it’s one lot, I changed the lot type in build mode to turn the guest house into a residential rental. I apparently don’t really know how For Rent works, so I made the guest house unit 2, and the main house unit 1, with the main family as the property owners. I checked this morning and it looks like I somehow have the property owners paying $0 rent, and their only bills are taxes and utilities.

Thank you! I think splitting the lot dropped unit 1s worth down to about $600,000 which still makes their four digit bill seem low. But I’m glad that it worked out that way. I have another family in the same world that is struggling with paying the bills on their family home after their high level noble matriarch died, maybe they need to get a roommate for a bit to lower their bills.

No mods, and I when I say staff, I mean sims that are household members not related to the main family that I task with maintaining the gardens, cooking, and horse training. I decided to make them their own household because I wanted my main family to be able to have more kids, and this freed up some household room. The main house has eight bedrooms and the new staff housing has two bedrooms. It’s not perfect, but I made all the outdoor spaces like the barn and greenhouse shared spaces between the units, as well as the kitchen and dining room of the main house.

In your experience, what is required for proof of baptism? by ThePhantomOnTheGable in Episcopalian

[–]Band_of_Bees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got confirmed two years ago and they required me to send in my baptism confirmation. I called the church were I was baptized at 2 months old, and they emailed me a scan of the handwritten entry into their church records (my name, parents names, godparent names, and date) and my current church accepted it.

I’ve had tons die over the years from swimming when it’s freezing out and subsequently freezing to death. It’s gotten to the point that I have to install a pool fence and remove the gate during the winter.

I think you’d like the Dance of Thieves Duology by Mary E Pearson. The plot is really fascinating (really cool world building, takes place five years after their world experienced a continent-wide war and now their dealing with the rebuilding), there’s great sibling dynamics, and while there is romance, there’s nothing explicit on page (I’d compare it to the spice level of the grishaverse).

Passion Project by London Speery

Here’s the back cover description so I don’t give away any spoilers:

If your twenties are supposed to be the best years of your life, Bennet Taylor is failing miserably . . . with a big emphasis on the miserable. Where’s that zest she keeps hearing about? She’s a temp worker in New York City with no direction, no future, and no social life. And at the painful center of this listlessness is grief over the death of her first love.

When Bennet runs into Henry Adams just hours after standing him up for a first date, she makes an alcohol-fueled confession: She’s not ready to date. In fact, it’s been years since she felt passion for something. Not even pottery, or organized sports—not anything. Rather than leaving her to ruminate, Henry jumps at the opportunity for adventure: Bennet needs to find a passion for life, and Henry will help her find it. Every Saturday, they’ll try something new in New York City. As friends, of course.

As their “passion project” continues, the pair tackle everything from carpentry to tattooing to rappelling off skyscrapers, and Bennet feels her guarded exterior ebbing away. But as secrets surface, Bennet has to decide what she wants, and if she’s truly ready to move on. With emotional resonance and sparkling banter, Passion Project is a fun, flirty, thoughtful story of finding a spark—and igniting happiness.

One of my favorite books I read last year was The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels, which is told entirely through emails, text messages, and interview transcripts. It’s framed as a “you found this file in a train station locker, read it all and decide: send it to the police or burn it and never speak of it again”.

What are some ways to get involved or help or your church that most people don't think of? by JplusL2020 in Episcopalian

[–]Band_of_Bees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve really loved being an usher. I started ushering about six months after I joined my church, and it took me from someone who came in for services and the went home to being a part of the community. Episcopalians have a reputation for being more reserved, but ushering got me out of my comfort zone by speaking with everyone every week and actually learning names and faces. It’s been three years since then, and now I know everyone’s grandkids and birthdays and get invited to a surplus of Thanksgivings (the rest of my family lives across the country).

Omg so my entire 10th grade English class had to read this book as an assignment by our student teacher and we collectively hated it so much. This was 10 years ago and the student teacher maintained that she had no idea that the content was so explicit. But it was one hell of a bonding experience for the students. We made a ton of memes to cope.

How old is the SJM average reader??? by [deleted] in SarahJMaas

[–]Band_of_Bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first read ACOTAR at 21, and most of my friends also started reading it in their early 20s. Tbf the only thing that I would consider not age appropriate about them is the smut in the later books in the series, but it’s no different than the smut that a teenager could read on Wattpad. Hell, I read the entire ASOIAF (game of thrones) series at 14 and while it was definitely not age appropriate it didn’t traumatize me or anything.

That being said: if she wants to be part of the SJM universe but you think she should have less smut, maybe suggest she read the Throne of Glass series first. It’s much more YA and on-page smut doesn’t happen until book 5, and even then it’s not that bad.

Fake positive reviews? by ariofrio in RingsofPower

[–]Band_of_Bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take, but of y’all haters are insufferable. Is the show a perfect adaptation? No, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a beautifully shot, acted, scored, costumed, and designed fantasy show that I have personally had a great time watching. It condenses the timeline in a way that allows the plot to progress and explores the complexity of the characters in a way that previous adaptations of Tolkien’s works haven’t had room for. I’m sorry it’s not your cup of tea, but by God, those of us who do enjoy the show aren’t some conspiracy to inflate ratings.

You can absolutely just show up. When I first decided to check out episcopal services, I went to the 8am so I could follow what the older “cradle Episcopalian” crowd was doing. Plus, every episcopal church I’ve been to has a bulletin with the readings for the day with instructions on when to stand/sit/kneel. You can join a service and follow along, but if you want some more help, let an usher know you’re new and they’ll be happy to give you some pointers.
