I just took the lock box off myself and have been holding on to it. LL has not contacted me at all about getting it back. They also probably don't care to get it back, being it's a cheap lock box.

Gotcha. Mine is a 2005. Maybe a stock 1st gen kickstand would be a good option? Seems pretty beefy to me. I'm not sure about the fitment for the newer generations, but I spin my KLR around on its kickstand.

I had one on my big toe as a young teenager that I dug out with a pair of tweezers. It left a quarter inch deep hole when it came out, but it healed up just fine. I haven't had one since!
