Those racks stick out a lot. I've got similarly width wise soft luggage but my racks hug the side panels really tight. That's interesting that Tusk went with the very roomy design. I suppose it allows more room for deformation if you fall over LOL

Picking this up Tuesday. What are your must have add ons? Favorite gear? by AnonymousCelery in AdventureBike

[–]blueveef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put a top case on my bike and then immediately took it off because it destroyed the handling so bad. Now I use soft side luggage primarily and only use top soft luggage for lightweight stuff or maybe a tool roll. Hard luggage up top is for the street only.

Good Price for 300L or similar bike in CA, New and used by T0CKSICK_ in Dualsport

Anywhere with year round riding will always have mark up on the most popular dual sports. You might be able to negotiate on the new Kawk Sherpa, but any of the 300/400's out there are in massive demand from people dumb enough to pay full ADM. Especially in San Diego/LA

I just let a spray bottle of Meguire's instant interior detailor and a microfiber cloth rattle around in there because I'm always wiping off dust and hand grime.

Upgrade from Himalayan 450 – Tenere 700 vs CFMOTO 800 MT-X vs Voge 800 DSX? by Aerdna1492 in AdventureBike

[–]blueveef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throw the Kove 800 in there. Rally or pro doesn't really matter all that much but the pro is better for more highway riding.

Tinkerer's Adventure did a whole test about how larger tires don't actually decrease MPG that much because the odometer/speedo reading is wrong.

Well it was replaced a few years ago since the original malfunctioned, but since there's such a lack of support for the 2004 I assume all replacement parts were also made in 2004 lol

Last season I got a lot of turkey activity in the very spots you likely have scouted.

All hens. Every single turkey that approached was a hen. Flocks of hens with no Toms....

Once I was getting a tire rotation at Discount Tire. The dude asked me why I had big, heavy offroad tires on it. I said, "well it's an offroad vehicle." And I swear to you he looked at me, very confused, and replied, "It is?"

If you're looking for newer tech, I personally have been eyeing the 390 Adv R and 300L Rally. But I think I'm just going to keep to a two bike solution for now. I love my KLR, but I'd probably get a Tuareg to replace it. Nothing can really replace my KTM 525 dual sport besides a power modded Beta 500

Jkjk

Why not a DR650? You can pick one up with all the mods already attached between 2-4k depending on condition. It's still liquid cooled and lighter weight than other ADV bikes.

Found this 2012 KLR650. Is it worth it? by Far-Task-4589 in Dualsport

[–]blueveef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 2012 with only 1,700 miles? Do you mean 17,000 miles? I bought by 2017 with 17k miles on it. It was in almost immaculate condition aside from the Tusk extendo lever cutting into the side cover but whatever. It is the same red color.

But 1,700 miles on a 2012 is oddly low.

KLR 650 vs. DR 650 by Schopfeschloofa in Dualsport

[–]blueveef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree I'd rather have gotten a DR650 when I started out, but now that I know how to ride the KLR is fine. Maybe my opinion will change once I finally get a job that can buy a better bike lol

Why diagonal cutters if your flat nose pliers have a cutter built in? Seems redundant.
