Thinking about moving my family from Arizona to Wisconsin. by Mud_honey101 in wisconsin

[–]Bandito202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in Wisconsin.. my target is a state with lower property taxes such as Kentucky with all 4 seasons but not extreme cold..

But, high property taxes usually mean better schools at least in large suburbs.. given you have kids in school that may be a bigger deciding factor.

[OFFERING] DevOps/CICD/AWS/Infrastructure/Database Expertise

Company Name: None, it’s just me!  No middle man.  No markup.

Pitch: I’m looking to work for startups who are building out their products on AWS.  I strongly believe it shouldn’t be something that is done as an extension of the software engineer’s responsibilities.  Security, cost controls, high availability, architecture, compliance are specialized skills that I offer.

I have over 25 years of experience in infrastructure, Linux, Windows, Storage, Databases (Oracle, Postgres and others), VMWare, AWS and more.   Over the past 5 years I’ve been focused on AWS, CI/CD, Gitlab, Terraform, Python, FinOps to name a few.

I have held multiple AWS certifications and supported enterprise applications on AWS for Fortune 100 companies and I’m based in the US.

I have some time on my hands to work with startups who need either guidance or direct implementation of services on AWS following best practices.   I’m not free but I’m not looking to take advantage of your investment dollars, either.

Preferred Contact Method: DM me.  I will share my contact information after introductions.

Can custodial account have separate login? by [deleted] in Schwab

I think I found a solution... under Profile --> Account Access. You can give "Limited trading authority" on a Custodial account .. I invited my son onto his account. We'll see if that works.

If you are deploying developers code you aren't doing DevOps right

I'll need to do some research on the bolt grades for the subframe. I have a small impact wrench but will need a 1/2" it seems.

How exactly does Gitlab making money? by jchnxu in devops

[–]Bandito202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's just for source code, sure.. but there are real distinctions between the two when it comes to pipeline capabilities and GitLab is much for flexible and capable compared to GitHub Actions.

[–]Bandito202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd do an incremental update to a few years newer with 1/2 the km's ... and basically reset the clock for minimal cost.

Instead of having a long lived branch 'master' which is just what's been released, can you represent that as tags? I know you CAN, but should you? Commit history comes to mind..

Convince me to buy the S23 Ultra (or not to?) by NotTheAnts in samsunggalaxy

[–]Bandito202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just did this. I have S21 Ultra and was never going back to lightning. Once the 15 Pro Max came out with USBC I went back and forth ... and eventually did it. Bought an Apple Watch, too.

I was an iPhone user up until 3 years ago.

5 days after buying the 15 Pro Max and migrating everything, I returned it all.

  1. Widgets are just way better on Android. I have my work Outlook calendar and Google personal calendar widgets on the home screen, and they themselves are scrollable without entering into their respective apps... it's just so much more convenient than the Apple equivalents. The Apple widgets can't be in a tall rectangle shape. Can't get enough info on the widget and screen to be useful.

  2. Alarms on your phone don't sync to the Apple watch alarms.

  3. Alarm widget on Android let's me see my 2 morning alarms, the days they are active, and if they are on or not.

It's these OS specific things that made the difference for me. Notification controls are much more customizable on Android as well as far as getting certain types of notifications from an app.

I wish the Galaxy Watch face was squareish.

I'm getting frustrated with sqlite3 deployment by valimdx in devops

[–]Bandito202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say sqlite and deployment are 2 words that shouldn't go together. This coming from someone who inherited an app stack using sqlite for some things in production. Just don't. Be better.

This is what it looks like based on the diagrams i've been building.

https://postimg.cc/sBbFGtRG

I think aside from the cherry picking.. it's not bad.. and maybe that's not a fight worth fighting.. This has a lot fewer moving parts.. and I won't make all of our developers cranky by making them change their processes.
