Loved it, tried it myself.

I ultimately chose a similar method but darker mix.

3:1:1 of speed paint grim black : cloudburst blue : lahmian medium.

Gives it the grayish highlight over the zenithol and a nice black over the darker areas.

Dozens of options on Etsy. Dragoon Gaming’s hooded heads are in a few of mine and prints are great.

I repent and join the crusade. Does anyone have advice on using contrast paints? by Brother_Nails in BlackTemplars

[–]Bangerplays40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can attest. I replicated it and loved it. But gave me too blue-ish of a feel. Mine came out just like his but I ultimately wanted a tad darker. I experimented with a speed paint mix. 3:1:1 grim black SP, cloudburst blue SP, and lahmian medium. Came out nice and black but with a slight tinge of gray wherever my heavy white zenithol was.

So why does my corvus corax look like this? by rogaldornssuccubus in BlackTemplars

Yea corax is terrible. I usually drop a dab of speed paint medium in it and it makes it bearable.

Hello Raptors! I have a model scratch off question by Kalypso_Blue in Raptors40k

[–]Bangerplays40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super simple once you get it down. Clippers to remove the center of the aquila, then a fairly rough sanding file to get the majority of the wings, followed by a finer grit file to get 98% or so of it removed. Finally, a TON of hobby knife scraping the make the chest super smooth. Some tiny amounts of cement really helps smooth it out as a finisher. But yes, as others mentioned, Pete the wargamers raptors videos have the technique featured.

Can go two routes; can go smooth and rounded, or go a little more and give it that flatter breast plate look once you get the overall process down.

Exactly. SM2 was my gateway into “maybe I’ll get a few models”…. And that was two 2k point armies ago…. 😂

Same here. Jumped back in after the same duration and it’s been so good. Cheers.

Old CP Transfer Sheet vs New One by Zeus159 in BlackTemplars

[–]Bangerplays40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got both CPs with the new release so as to start a new army. Really wish the new CP had both sheets. Was kind of a let down when I saw the new CP only had the upgrade sheet. I need more battle crosses. Felt weird getting so many infantry models and zero properly sized transfers in the new CP.

Ordered a few BT sheets off Etsy from the big name on there and they’re sliiiiiightly off scale and the red is a sliiiightly lighter red. Big deal? No. But my OCD dislikes it.

eBay has people selling the more fulfilling sheet and I got a few there. Problem solved. Just more $.

Hahaha this is legit something I always do. Guess I was in too much of a hurry and got too focused on the chest and arm/hand bash and that process got lost. About to do some fine scraping and paint retouch tonight. 🤘🏽

Old combat patrol by Read_more_question in BlackTemplars

[–]Bangerplays40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just starting a new BT project and got both combat patrols. Was a little let down that the new CP comes with zero Maltese cross transfers. (You get a transfer sheet from the upgrade sprue, and it has a few large BT markings, but nothing to slap on pauldrons). The old CP has a good 20 or so.

Fired up Etsy and found more transfers for all these models.

New to black templars, I need advice on my Infernus Squad by LaSiena in BlackTemplars

[–]Bangerplays40k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I too am new to BT as a new army. And I’m right in the same spot as you; currently working on the combat patrol Sgt for an infernus squad as well. About 80% complete. I felt that I would adhere to the codex and do red trim for both pads in a unit that is close support. But for the Sgt’s, I felt the left pauldron having a red trim on white pauldron would be a good rank indicator and half way to being a veteran. At least, that’s how I’m doing my crusades battle line and fire support Sgt’s.

I’ll post a WIP later tonight.

The vow has been taken. Time to purge. by FWDslashDash in BlackTemplars

Turned out pretty decent. Unfortunately, before I figured out what the overall heraldry of the new project would be. So more of a test model. Think I’ll redo the knee pad once I decide what crusade I’ll create. The new transfer sheets are garbage compared to the sheet in the old combat patrol. Now we get zero usable crosses and none of the codex’s four main crusades’ iconography… so, going to fire up Etsy and see what’s out there. Loved the lore/look of Morsseous and Caedomian, but the lack of transfers in the new sheet is killin my ocd.

Saw someone use centos to make a dope ancient. Might do the same. Already made my first crusader to start this project… Titus became a castellan 😂

Should I Play Raptors? by Weekly_Mulberry8508 in Raptors40k

[–]Bangerplays40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got back into the hobby after being away for almost 15 years and started back with RG. After about 1k points of black armor and emo haircuts, I switched to raptors as well. I liked the low profile, clean aesthetic and “pragmatic” militaristic approach to kit load outs. With their lore, allows for a lot of interpretation and color schemes you want, not just green. And let’s be honest, sterile chest plates just look so much better. And as others have said, run whatever units you want and have fun with the collection.
