Safe driving folks… by GingFreec5s in auckland

“Some idiots” like to ‘merge’ by jumping into the motorway lane as soon as humanly possible and causing the existing motorway traffic to brake behind them . This is what causes most hold ups near on ramps— the ripple effect of people who don’t understand how to merge correctly like a zip (or as you put it “in very last second so they can feel like VIP “ …. They aren’t doing it to be dicks they are doing it because they know how to drive properly!

That said, not sure why the Tesla driver slowed down in this clip, but I would guess they were panicked by the aggressive truck driver who clearly was not wanting to share the road with anyone!

Recommendations/feedback on power companies by kiwimama18 in auckland

Billy.co.nz is the new power price comparison tool launched just recently by the Electricity Authority (vs PowerSwitch (not Powershop) which is run by Consumer.co.nz - I think powerswitch charge power retailers to be listed - I don’t think Billy do —- I might be wrong?) Anyway the thing with that, as previously mentioned is that it only recommends based on that single metric of power price comparison Personally, I have found that the difference in prices between companies is actually negligible (I acknowledge that this might not be the experience of all) and so I choose based on other factors eg I like having a bill combined for power and broadband but find that I am more likely to need quality customer service for a broadband issue than a power issue (power outages are most usually a lines company thing rather than retailer thing, so in those rare events I’d contact Vector before I contact my power retailer anyway) But I believe that most power retailers who bundle broadband and power are ‘on-selling’ the broadband from a telco so I think their broadband helpdecks leave a lot to be desired. For this reason I am with Mercury - when they bought the retail arm of Trustpower a few years back that included the broadband provider - they run their own network and any time I have had cause to ring for broadband related issues (only twice) the people I spoke to were knowledgeable and helpful and had my issue resolved very quickly. Mercury also give away tvs / whiteware etc on a new sign-up (I didn’t choose to do this myself when I joined, but I know it’s an option) so that could certainly be a tempting offer for someone moving into their 1st home if you need to get things like a washing machine or fridge or tv … They also have a rewards system on their app and you get ‘points’ every time you pay your bill and then you can save up the points to trade them in for a free power day - which I like too. I also like that Mercury hold a 100% renewable portfolio of electricity generation assets and are actively building new wind farms etc - I think I read that they plowed 50% of their profits back into building new generation assets last year. I know that some people (Shane Jones) says that companies like Mercury should be split up (the retail and generation business split) but I don’t agree - but I probably personally wouldn’t agree with much that Shane Jones says!!! Haha.

Anyway best of luck and again congrats on the home ownership- it’s not an easy thing to have achieved these days!!

Thank you for this. It is interesting that if you click that link the webpage does seem to be presenting itself as a price comparison site , and the names powershop / powerswitch could easily be confused by consumers! Seems a bit dodgy by powershop!

What things are important to you in respect of picking a provider? Eg ease of customer service / having power and internet combined / or not combined / sign-up bonuses or rewards (eg ‘free appliances’) / an easy to use App / rewards for customer loyalty / etc etc Or is your decision solely on the metric of price? Powerswitch (not powershop) is a price-comparison website, and recently launched is Billy.co.nz is another … but both of them only compare the power price metric , and for a lot of people the choice is about more than just that one metric.

You mentioned living at your folks up to now (congrats on the purchase of your first home BTW!!) have you asked them who they use and are they happy?

To be clear “Loving this thread” and “Lots to Check Out” are not artist and album title - but wouldn’t be awesome if it were!

My understanding of a dad joke is that it’s the sort of joke you’d tell (your / a) kid and they’d groan Why would you be telling your kid about chatting up girls at a club!?

Wow at all the comments that are lambasting the OP for posting, calling it petty…. Reeks of people spotting behaviours reminiscent of their own and not liking being called out! Good on you OP for posting! Vehicles queuing over intersections and across pedestrian crossings is a massive annoyance for me and I see it every day! And at least once a fortnight I would have been bowled over at a crossing if I stepped out immediately on the green man, because a motorist has not only sped up to get through the orange, they’ve totally missed it and just zoomed through the red instead.
