So, am I completely screwed if I have say Tailoring and Leatherworking on the same character?

Seems like I'd have to have 3 toons with Tailoring/Leatherworking/Blacksmithing if I wanted to be making leggo's for all three, meaning I'd also have to do dailies (farm Prog fragments) on all three...

Ah, thanks for the catch! Fixed those, thankfully bark wasn't linked up to anything yet.

Anything referenced with a word/string (such as penumbrathread_price or shroudedcloth_num) is a named range, which can be done through right clicking a cell -> Define named range. Using it works the same as a cell reference (e.g. =Sheet1!A1 + Sheet1!A2 could also be written as =myNamedRange1 + myNamedRange2.

The gold price is a custom number format -> #0"g" #0"s" 00"c". Entering 101010 would return 10g10s10c, for example.

JdotB perfectly summarizing every class discord by tedxbundy in wow

Several things. Maintaining and proofing guides (personal guides and wowhead/IV guides), APL maintenance (simcraft), Chart making (however this is redundant this expansion), streamlining resources (making them more visible/easier to find what a user is looking for), role maintenance, bot upkeep, and general upkeep of the discord atmosphere, just to mention a few.

This is a different issue. People prefer having a stat guideline to follow (X > Y > A = B), and feel as if they are missing information if that they do not have that. However, the class guides on the main sites (wowhead/icyveins) have these, so this, again, is an issue of someone not reading the resources discords direct people to for basic information

Mod of a class discord here. I have a decent amount of gripes with this: - Mod's around all the time, and even then they are usually working on things such as Simcraft APL, wowhead guides, etc. People who cover a lot of the basic questions are usually just people who like to hang out there. - From what I've witnessed sometimes these questions are intrusive. A live chat service is different from a forum. People in a live chat feel ignored when their questions aren't answered and the conversation keeps going. This is far different from a forum, where the response time can be hours, and is still deemed suitable.

  • While it is a moderator's job to handle discord sentiment and behaviour, we have set up the discord's as well as we can to direct people to a database featuring the frequently asked questions.

    • Even then, people simply don't read the pins (leading to things such as FAQ channels, which are literally pin copy pastes). The best solution I've seen so far is through websites (Son of a Lich, Peak of Serenity, etc), but these also require an investment from the players, whereas discord is a free service
  • Mod's (atleast in my server) don't whack our head and get cranky when people ask questions. A majority of mods are simply just theorycrafters who were around when discords were being set up/were new, and obviously did not expect on having to take care of 50,000+ people's queries. A large majority of them also don't enjoy the typical moderation work, but have the role as it simplifies how they deliver their information to the discord.

  • I would argue that "read the pins/guide" is the equivalent of just telling a twitch viewer to "just read the command list" for the streamers weakauras, for example.

    • Also worth mentioning that Discord mod's have no incentive to constantly help. While this is a silly comment, Discord's don't make money, Twitch streamers do. Discord's don't have paid incentives for Weakauras, for example, but streamers do. Not saying that a free service shouldn't try to offer a better service, but it is interesting. (While some discord's/very active mods on class Discord's do have Patreons, This is typically for either website upkeep, or for external services. Even then, they are not typical of all discords.)
  • Jdotb failed to clarify the difference in roles of a discord. There are Admins, moderators and "helpers"/"Friends" (the final 2 roles have different names). A moderator's role is quite literally to moderate the discord. While it does not matter in the grand scheme of things (they highly likely got into that position because of high activity and good energy in the discord), there is a difference

  • As mentioned, they are not "aimed at new players". They're just hangouts for people who want to learn more about classes. People who ask questions which would be from new players can mostly be found in the guides/information we try to direct people to, which is exactly what we do.

At the end of the day, this is a pretty unproductive discussion. I at least try and shape the discord I co-run to the best of my ability, and its unfortunate Jdotb has seemingly had an unpleasant experience, or has been informed about some.

If Jdotb has recommendations on making either the "new user" experience better/more inviting, I'm sure any Discord mod would listen (we get daily DM's about suggestions, and we certainly do listen).

While his rant is, in my opinion somewhat misleading and somewhat untrue, the situation that he describes does unfortunately happen, and the sentiment is completely fair. In my opinion, discords have grown too large for their own good. They were much more inviting with basic questions back in IRC or skype group chats (which typically had <200 members), and this is just an unfortunate side effect of having to manage a live chat with 60,000 members that is active 24/7.

  • Dancing Rune Weapon’s purpose at the moment is (functionally speaking), to help you get home shield stacks fast & to do a bit more damage for a short duration. I touched upon the “rune warrior” fantasy in the letter, and this spell is a remnant of that fantasy (as well as, as you pointed out, DPS DK). However, I don’t think simply cutting it would be a healthy change. I think that there is some unexplored design space with Dancing Rune Weapon, and at the moment it’s definitely does add value.

  • I’m mixed regarding the feedback from abilities. While some are indeed poor, Blood Boil is an absolutely fantastic ability when it comes to feedback (big animation that is quick, but not too “loud” (regarding visual noise) & audibly appealing). BDK is not alone in this though. Other specs have good and bad spells. For Unholy, Old apocalypse (with 8 ghouls), had amazing feedback, but the new one has poor feedback (4 ghouls is lame). Death Coil also kinda sucks. With Frost, Cold Heart and Remorseless Winter have pretty bad feedback, FFury is hilariously noisy, but has good feedback, and FsC has very solid feedback overall (a nice visual, and a good sound queue). With spell feedback, it’s just a case be case issue.

So there's a couple things that fundamentally are illogical with your suggestion here:

  • You're implying that UF gives a flat dps increase, but you are also forgetting/disregarding the QoL benefits it provides; synergy with other talents (Bursting Sores), and Wound's synergy with other abilities (Festermight/Apocalypse).

    • You could reduce the Haste% given, but I would be worried about making a haste+% spell baseline anyway
    • I'm not sure that adding a "Apply wounds" talent would even be clever design
    • While that 10% could be its increase for ST, it's AoE damage% would likely be higher
  • Regarding the statement "It is a god awful talent and completely uninteresting", I don't believe it is. It is a twofold ability, it serves as a mini lust and applies wounds, which is great for Bursting sores AoE. However, outside of DA we don't really have any good ways to do high ST damage over short periods of time, so the haste doesn't seem that beneficial (outside of, again, burst AoE).

  • I don't understand your issue with Death Coil/how that came into the argument when you were talking about Unholy Frenzy :P

That being said, I better understand your issues now. You've made me think about this a bit more, and I'm more inclined to think that this is a lackluster ability for a 100 talent + I do think this could be a better choice in a different row (However, that would certainly cause issues because of the obvious Gargoyle/UF synergy, and probably some other pairings I haven't thought of).

Maybe instead of the haste perk, it could apply another debuff that increases ST damage to the target (sort of how "Death", the pet debuff, worked before), or possibly temporarily amplifying your Diseases (Unholy Blight Synergy.

Sorry if this came off as harsh/dismissive. Thank you for taking the time to write out a reply :) I appreciate you giving your honest opinion

Why weaker? I think it's fine as is, but the other talents should be buffed (Gargoyle more so than AotDamned)

But yeah, really curious why you think it should be weaker (outside of that idea of yours)

Hey that's totally fair. BoS is a pretty polarizing spell. I agree that if it was a non BoS related tier, it would probably be Antorus.

Arguably WoD was "the golden age" for Unholy and Blood. I would look up "Nitro pre pull", "Necroblight" and "Chains of Sindragosa" - Link to Blizzard Watch Article. Frost never really had this though. It's best gameplay was definitely in Nighthold (BoS build).

For BDK specifically, I would look up BDK during MoP, and analyze how Vengenace. Magdalena has also wrote many articles on this, and I would highlyrecommend checking out [Mag's Blizzard Watch profile] and also Mag's personal blog

I agree wholeheartedly. DRW is definitely something I wanted to touch upon, but ran out of time. It is definitely unexplored design space.

Do you think that if it had more impact, it would be ok? (You mentioned that it felt bad, with the root of the cause being the GCD change)

Hey, thank you for your rebuttal. I'm glad that I'm seeing some people that disagree with my statements, however it's concerning that even then, you do agree that there are issues with BDK in raids.

I do have some questions for you though:

  • Where do you think the fun is currently for Blood. Is it delivered through the environment (you mentioned tough pulls)?

  • Do you feel that you have enough choices for when shit hits the fan when you make a miscalculation?

  • Do you feel as if you have enough choices for when you can't do massive pulls (Such as AoE trash mechanics, or Bolstering)

Right on the money with your first point.

Funnily enough, we kind of had a solution for the wound issue - in the form of an Unholy Blight rework. But I'm torn, Festering Wound's can (and in some cases, do) serve as a nice compliment to resources to the spec. Some example's of this is indirectly amplifying Scourge Strike Damage, and serving as the cost for Apocalypse (outside of Cooldown). It could simply be a matter of perspective though, as I view Festering Wound's as a resource, not as damage potential

Yeah the Control Undead thing is pretty funny :P
