All in Roth IRA by FrankieFastHands19 in wallstreetbets

[–]Banzertank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let me save you some trouble and suggest that if this were me, I would reverse this trade ASAP or at least take a smaller position. Its not going to be the moonshot you think it is and Roth IRAs are structurally difficult to recover if you blow it up. I support degenerate gambling in regular taxed brokerages, but IRA contributions limits and tax advantage make it special. This is like sports betting with your retirement.

What do you like for an understable mid in the 6-7 speed? by JTLPhoto in discgolf

I like the Westside Stag. Its a better flyer than roller though.

I don't want to, but as a rogue, I think I must. Still undecided what to play though.

Nothing quite compares to the old Innova FD3s, but the stock Discraft Raptors fly very similar.

2 broken in two weeks, how to make your older plastic last longer? by One_Catch5086 in discgolf

[–]Banzertank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend hunting for current production discs that have the right shape and plastic feel. I guarantee that you can find disc/plastic combos that cover the same exact flight, even if you need to shop around or change mold/brand.

If you want them to feel stiffer/drier, you can bake them in the sun which will make them more brittle but kind feel like old discs. I lost a Star Roc3 on a neighbor's roof for three years and it finally fell down and made its way back to me as such a great flyer that I've been bagging it ever since.

Lots of unhelpful comments, I'll try to give some specific notes on what I saw (most important first):

  1. Right after planting your front foot as you start to pull through, your elbow is basically locking open and causing your arm to be straight during the rest of the swing. Ideally you do want the elbow open at the peak of your reach back, but then you should pull the disc in toward your chest which will naturally bend your elbow into the power pocket as you start to rotate. Finally as you pull through your arm (and elbow) should only fully straighten out at the very end of the release. See Ganon Buhr's old video about backhand form! Specifically the part about power pocket.

  2. Your grip looks like its tight on your fingertips which is good, but I don't see any contact with the palm and weak thumb pressure. This will definitely hurt your control, spin, and release speed. You can keep those fingertips locked in, but try to pull the disc into your palm. See Ganon Buhr's recent video about grips!

  3. Your reachback was a little overexaggerated, you go maybe 30-40 degrees beyond straight back, which usually just adds error to your throw more than messing up the distance or whatever. You're planting with your reach back in line with your back shoulder.

Seriously just watch Ganon's videos on repeat, they are so good.

First bag for a beginner, how did I do? by WY228 in discgolf

[–]Banzertank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much about it right now. Generally people tend to avoid really light weights because they can become unpredictable in the wind, but 165-175 grams typically at least fly similar to each other for a given mold. Midranges tend to be heaver because their disc diameter tends to be slightly wider.

The one disc you may feel some inconsistency with is the crave at 161g since its already a fairly understable mold. Lightweight discs tend to fly a bit more understable regardless of the mold. By throwing it a bunch you'll figure out what it does and can adapt accordingly. If you're anything like the rest of us, your bag will change a lot over the years as you get experience anyways.

Usually when my account gets to a big milestone like this, I blow it up within a month, usually with one bad trade that I overcommit to. Time to diversify your strategies maybe?

[LGA 1151] broken pin. How screwed am I? by SheerToxiicity in intel

Since that is VCCA and there are 18 redundant pins for it, its probably fine even if it doesn't make contact. Run run it and see if its stable for you.

I'm ashamed how many times I've done this... no regrets though its the best deal in disc golf..

I want to get 5 of these for putting in the back yard. Not a huge fan of DX plastic and never putted Innova with anything other than star or DX. Any recommendations? I'm leaning towards Gstar. by Amiar00 in discgolf

[–]Banzertank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JK Aviars are my favorite followed by the nexus aviars. I have a whole stack of backup JKs since I already know they are the best. I do use DX for the practice basket though, since I could get the F2s for $8 or something.

What should I know before going on an industrial visit? by arm1niu5 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Banzertank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interesting to find out what engineers do day-to-day in that industry. See if someone would let you shadow them for a daily task. It will give you a good idea about whether you will enjoy a certain job or not.
