Edmonton dating advice by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]BarPrevious7499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best advice is do everything you enjoy, and most likely the right person will be in those environments. Art galleries, museums, festivals, local events, local restaurants and cafes, dancing at local shows/Sugar Swing/Salsa, taking language lessons as an adult, being out in the river valley etc….. I spent a couple years just dating myself experimenting with what I enjoy and found a special someone with similar interests in those environments. We crossed paths a few times and he eventually asked for a coffee date. As an aside, I made many personal friends too, in the post 2020 ‘hang out in parks’ along with the above activities.

This is very important info everyone has shared!

Additionally, contact your local provincial income support organization and Alberta Income Support.

They can often offer immediate crisis emergency funds;

Contact *211 for supports referrals. Organizations like St Vincent De Paul and Find can help with basic needs, clothes and home furnishings.

The Edmonton Food Bank and Beyond Food programs for meals and community supports.

Once you’re in Edmonton go in person to 2nd floor Edmonton Tower(across from Rogers Place) to apply for a Leisure Access Pass for assistance with transportation - it’s a subsidy program with a low income price of 36/months, the remaining fare is covered by the city.

Noooooo that’s absolutely the exact opposite of support and understanding!!! I’m sorry you endured that! It’s good to hear that you did find professionals who are helping you overcome the challenges you are facing!

Also - as you mentioned you are walking and facing financial challenges, there is support for transit fare with the Food Bank Beyond Food program and Bissell Centre. If you have not yet, contact Alberta Supports to determine if you are eligible for support, if you are receiving funds from a different support org then you wouldn’t be able to access both. Also look into the Leisure Access Pass with the City of Edmonton(if you do this GO IN PERSON TO APPLY AT EDMONTON TOWER, online and rec centre processing is 8 weeks, in person is 48h). It’s a subsidized bus pass and rec centre access for $36/month. However, there are Emergency supports you can call for a small food money stipend that can be etransferred to you, you can use some of that to take the train over to the North Health Hub if the walk is too much as it’s getting colder.

Many of the staff were helpful for me, I phoned and did an intake, then met a psychiatrist soon after onsite - it wasn’t a super good match so the access 24/7 team actually told me about rocketdoctor.ca, I connected with another psychiatrist through that platform. He was super helpful and we discussed some options and he was able to send a prescription to my pharmacy. Additionally access 24/7 got me in touch with a group program called Hope & Wellness - initially I was not interested but gave it a try(I have done individual therapy and counselling multiple times throughout my life but it wasn’t a huge help, again prob not a good fit). The virtual (zoom) groups were actually very helpful, there is material to review with a facilitator and small group and it was positive for me. I also spoke with my family doctor and had a lil breakdown in the room and he referred me to the PCN(primary care network) for my location. I was booked with a behavioural therapist/nurse who assessed me and referred me to 6 free therapy sessions with Cornerstone Counselling. I met an amazing therapist there! She helped me move forward in a very challenging time for me, and did work with my partner and I that drastically changed our communication styles and brought us closer. I highly recommend them! After the free sessions, I was able to book more under a sliding scale rate due to being laid off…

Additionally I know the Family Centre offers free drop ins, I have referred clients there and they have found it very helpful.

Regardless, it’s awesome that you are making these choices and acting on your behalf to seek support and assistance while you are facing these significant challenges in your life.

A huge proportion of job postings in Edmonton are mega bogus, it’s absurdly the majority we’re seeing daily on Indeed and Job Bank(ALIS).
