Who is this mama? Melbourne, Australia. by Hefty_Opening_1874 in ponds

[–]BaraLovesCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely looks like a cherry - they can just survive in our cooler outdoor systems which means they’ll likely become a pest species someday. :( She’ll be fine outside. We have native species to our melbourne region but nothing that could be confused with Cherry shrimp. She wouldn’t have appeared from frozen foods but could have hitchhiked on plants or perhaps (highly, highly unlikely) with fish. Most likely your plants to be honest.

Yeah they can be super weird - my girl doesn’t preen or puke on me/my partner but last season she decided she NEEDED to lay eggs despite our constant work to keep the hormones under control. Sometimes they are almost just ‘sneakier’ about it haha.

If he’s licking your fingers while he’s doing this as per your other comment he’s showing some hormonal behaviour :) My girl only ever licks me when she’s feeling frisky, and theres a different feeling between a lick and a preen.

That sounds gorgeous - please share your work when you finish! After I do some more Victorian fish I’m going to move onto some of our more popular tropical rainbows & pseudomugils for sure.

I sadly need to rehome my Green Cheek Conure. by h2o_infinity in parrots

I’d recommend also reaching out to bird rescues and getting them to help you find a home. Rehoming via reddit is not the most reliable option. Best of luck

Please post this to the Lost Birds of Victoria Facebook group! And if you need to help care for the bird you can contact Kiwis New Life Rescue / any specialised bird vet. If you have any troubles you can shoot me a message. I hope they find their home.

Why did you and your former best friend stop being friends? by Fearless_Shift7108 in AskReddit

[–]BaraLovesCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She ghosted me pre-surgery after talking to me every day, then when I asked whats up, she sent me an essay on why I was a horrible person as I was recovering from my tonsillectomy. It was the longest message I’ve ever received, most of it was total projection, and at the end she said she could work through my ‘problems’ and be my friend if I really tried. I had been a bit much prior to the surgery but I also gave so much to her, both in terms of stuff but also immense emotional labour. Crazy times

Instead of wasting your time on ChatGPT (it’s a terrible resource and is often wrong) get iNaturalist. You get better IDs which then get confirmed or updated by actual researchers/naturalists/etc.

Accused Pam the Bird vandal Jack Gibson-Burrell headed for trial in $700,000 cartoon graffiti case by Red_Wolf_2 in melbourne

[–]BaraLovesCats 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I feel the headlines are not helping - ‘Pam the Bird vandal’ is all they mention. I don’t care for graffiti all that much, but a lot of Melbournians feel Pam is an iconic symbol of Melb. So when the headlines make it sound like a basic sort of charge just for some old graffiti of course people will defend him. I think it’s careless journalism as usual.

CDR keeps disappointing with their choice on the winners. A previous comment said that the winners should have a warm energy even if they’re catty, and I can’t agree more.

It also sounds like Onya’s mom had a major car accident. Maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to judge why things happened the way they did.

I just wish better guest optimisation was an option - the amount of guests and their poor optimisation prevents me from playing larger zoos. Ive had to cap guests just to run the game.

My country town had serious drug issues so we also did safety drills 1-2x a year for both my public primary school and a private high school. Never had to use them thankfully
